Quarterman Template, Round Two (WIP)

I love it! It looks like it'd work perfectly in a western.

The only thing that looks funky to me are the sideview wrists/forearms. They just look very... uncomfortable, or something.

I really don't like the hard outlines against the very dull/muted interior shades. It looks very odd. It's muddy inside the outlines and then the outlines themselves look unfinished since they're a color that blends into the skin. But I've said that before ;)

Something strikes me as odd about the nose on the sideview. Seems like it needs more shading beneath it. Looks more like a weird bump than an actual face protrusion.

The backview feet ... Well it doesn't look like heels so much as it looks like the ankle just stops and then flattens out going in front of him.

There's no shading behind the round of the skull in the backview, making it look like a straight shot from the cervical bones to the top of his head.

The backview hands look the same as the frontview hands (which are obviously hands but I still don't like them, they look all triangular and tiny still). In the backview though the thumbs should either be not-visible or only barely visible.

The sideview hands appear to only have 2 fingers.

The sideview stomachs don't curve inward at all, which looks rather awkwardly flat.

I'd like to see these with some civilian clothes or something like that though, so I can see how clothing hangs on it.

You always make such refreshingly different and unique sprites, it seems to me like this template is starting to hold you back instead of hone your abilities :/

I still love you though :)

Thanks Fuff24
Substancialicious, yeah the whole arms like broken or something apparently, i needs to fix that

Veny, *ahem*
who always comes in and posts like a bullet list XD

I really going to start ignoring the outline comments, because apparently the whole "I like this style for my work" isn't good enough, and I'll have to think of a better comeback :p

Yeah the hands I haven't touched yet.  I keep meaning to do that, but I always get side tracked with how funky the legs have been looking and trying to play with better perspective and stuff.  I've got exactly 178 WIPs in this one li'l folder of just different attempts with the legs and torso (doesn't even have arms) that I haven't been paying much attention to them.  I really should get on that.

Every time I add more than "two fingers" I'm swarmed with "going for too much detail".  Is there a middle ground XD
Honestly that whole arm on the side view sucks.  Though I can name a few big games where it looks like everyone has fins or hands like the Penguin from that Batman Returns movie, you know with Danny DeVito.  That's no excuse I know, "Just because everyone else gets away with it", but there's not much to do.  Either the hands are ginormous, on the side view, or their flippers :(
I'll keep going for that one.
Because those are more prominent to the template on the sideview I have been working on those ones, just the front and back ones - haven't touched in months.
I should work on this more than like 4 minutes a month :x

The sideview stomach shouldn't curve inward.  This isn't a super hero comic where chest and shoulder proportions are exaggerated and the stomach is super lean to the point of being slightly concave in comparison.  If you stand natural, like actually natural, your stomach pushes more outward than in.  Men at least, when standing proper (no not "properly straight" - because standing straight is horrible) will have thier stomachs out more, the spine curves that way.

")" is a lot more natural a stance than "7" as an old teacher in that "draw comic book heroes" class my mother signed me up for in 4th grade.  Though he drew a triangle, but it looked funny, so just use the 7 :p

If I'm standing with my chest puffed out, my shoulders back, and all trying to appear "bigger" than I am like some animal pushing fur, then yeah - absolutely the stomach would curve inward.  If I'm going for dynamic heroic motions, then obviously.  But a simple comfortable idle isn't going to have that, and if it does - someone's got back problems.

I suck at clothing so I won't be spriting any anytime soon, but I can if you want link you to another site where someone threw on like a hoodie lol, but that was about it.  I think they even used an HK hair set.

The skull is a point I keep ignoring because ... well I don't have a good reason I just keep ignoring it.  Thanks for pointing that out, I'll try to show a bit more with that.

As always <3's ya to

It's not about making his chest realistic in proportion to his stomach. If it's entirely flat it simply looks odd and rectangular. There has to be SOME sort of variation in horizontal elevation there or else he looks like a boxy robot.
