PS3 Gaining Popularity?

For a game machine, it's expensive. $600 is expensive unless you're rich.

True, But the fact is in the long run, game machines will only get more expensive as time goes by. It's inevitable to avoid to fact that prices will rise for consoles of the future. As the parts and graphics get better, prices will rise dramatically. For those people who can't keep up will have to go to their precious Nintendo to save them with their cheap consoles.

Uh, no, its not a bell curve. There were 900 dollar consoles before, remember? And back then it was because it costs a small fortune to make, kay? With me? Cus new software will always cost more, that doesnt mean future outdated software will cost less than current outdated software or that future new software will cost more than current new software. Use your head, boy.

::Edit:: damn, ryan beat me to it..::
@Berserker
Not necessarily. Prices have fluctuated since the begining. They haven't been going on a straight ramp since the beginning at all. As time goes by and technology gets better, prices can go down because of better manufacturing processes and cheaper parts. The PS1 and PS2 were like $300 when they came out... or one of them was. I don't remember. Man, their 'precious Nintendo to go to with thier cheap consoles,' eh? Almost sounds... elitist. If you're right and console costs keep rising so exponentially, then the game industry will be in serious trouble. The market for these consoles will diminish, and the industry will collapse.

Plus the N64 was, like 500 dollars when it debuted. Nintendo has never been the cheap option, they're cheap NOW because they had a slice of humble pie, seeing how their 2 previous system faired at their initial prices.

I'd attriute it more to the competition. I mean, Nintendo seems compartively cheap because they're not cramming their system with a bunch of useless stuff. The wii is for games. And thats it.

You've basically just reworded what ryan said. The slice of Humble Pie was handed to them by the competition, and this is why they're making thier system comparitively cheap and not adding a bunch of 'useless' stuff. Nintendo used to be arrogant as hell, and they got what was coming to them. I see this repeating with the house of PlayStation so far...

My N64, with the two controllers and two games broke the $700 mark.

For those of you who think the price tag is gonna kill the PS3, I think you're wrong, but I think it will give the competition more of a chance than they've had before.

This next generation will mark a decrease in Sony's enormous lead, but I still think the PS3, especially after price cuts, will come out on top.

$700 for all that? I think you were ripped off bigtime...!

I'm a bit pissed off that my 2 year old playstation 2 broke today (I assume it was a chip inside, because games just keep loading and loading...Gotta love flimsy devices that don't pull their weight...

Actually, at the time, the jump between the average playstation game at that time(slightly better than snes) as well as the SNES to Super Mario 64 was astoungingly huge. Probably the biggest leap visually the consoles ever had because nothing would touch the n64 when it first came out. So its price was understandable. At this point in the game the enhancements are so small and often un-noticeable when consoles jump(like xbox to 360) but it was a bigger deal back then

We never paid that much for our N64...maybe it was cheaper here? I dunno, we got it quite early after its release so...well, that's beside me.

My number could be give or take $100 or so, but the console itself was expensive, the games cost $60-$75, and the controllers were frikkin expensive too.

I think that it's the price comparison to how it's been presented.

For 1000 dollars, you get a console where you can count the fleas on a man's head... oh yeah... and RIIIIDDDGGGGEEEE RAAACCCERRRRR!!!!

Okay, yes. People will buy it because of its 'advanced graphics' and all this other stuff.
Graphics-Whores.

Okay okay okay - the best joke evar.

What do a prositiute and the PS3 have in common?
You bought them becaus ethye looked good, but in the end they just screwed you for money.

Okay I suck :(

@arc
Oh, yeah, man... the controllers...! They were so expensive... Needless to say, I didn't keep the N64 for long. I couldn't afford to keep getting games for the damn thing... I was stuck renting for a long time. I mooched PlayStation games off of my nearby friends, though, so I did have more resources to dedicate to the 64, but it was just too expensive.

I got my N64 for around $200, if I remember correctly. And the games were about $40 when I bought them. This was the same year it was launched, again, if I remember correctly.

When you respond to arc's posts, keep in mind that he's CANADIAN. (<_<) And Canadian dollars aren't worth as much as American dollars, though that seems to be changing lately.

I went to the shops recently and found: N64 amazing quality at: 15 pounds (Equivalent of 27.47 dollars)
I reckon the PS3 are gonna start making loads of accesories for the console, such as a motion detecting controller.

1988 called, they want their giant black electronics back.

EDIT: Nintendo makes the strongest consoles

EDIT: Apparently the PS3 weighs 4 pounds more than the original x box.

Oh yeah...They did earlier :(
EDIT: There, fixed.

I don't recall living in Canada...

And can I ask what the point of comparing pictures of the PS3 to pictures of an atari is supposed to accomplish? Looks like spam to me, but what do I know, I'm just a moderator.

I especially liked the what looked like cardboard cutouts of the consoles. lol

Also, you can get it in silver, unlike certain xboxs I know. (Sorry, you're right, they were sorta green.)
