PS3 Gaining Popularity?

According to CNET, PS3 has risen from #9 to #6 on the most wanted list.

OK.....how is it with all the negative press, the release of all these faults and bugs with the system, Kutagari's arrogant statements, Many companies not giving them AS MUCH support, high price, the "emotion Engine 2" graphics ending up being prerendered, the horrible E3 showing, and all the other bad press Sony has been getting......how is it actually gaining in popularity?

Its gonna be £600, If they lowered the price, I would actually want to get it. It may be a good console, but, I'm not getting it if its that expensive. Especially when the only game I currently want for it is Final Fantasy XIII

Yes its expensive, but Sony really dont have much of a choice with the price, they are a buisness remember, and they're probably losing money with that price as it is.

Yes exactly Sony IS a business and it does have a large price, but still I'm going for a ps3 which costs $999 over here. I mean nothing has just changed from years ago with the ps1 which just came out and everyone wanted it which costed $800 here. But it was really fun and this was the same for the ps2(which was waaay less expensive). So my best bet is sony will release a great console yet again.

Alot of people seem to be anti-ps3, I dont see why. Maybe they've finally figured out the puns in their precious 'wii'.

It's Actually £415 :p

I think the reason it's gaining in popularity could be the fact that it's release date is getting closer.

Nah. Its just the new MGS4 trailer and FF13 trailer. Those are the only two things really keeping Sony afloat, if Kojima goes completely unexclusive(high probability) PS3 will be in trouble.

The PS3 is going to be fine!

I don't understand why so many people want to turn the teething problems into the end of Video Gaming.

Sure, Sony will lose money with every single PS3 sold but they will very easily make up for it with every single game sold, and there will be a lot.

PS3 is going to be absolutly fine, and it's worth every penny in my Opinion.

@Camisado So true, it doesn't really matter to them since Sony is a HUGE company which makes tons of money every year so they aren't too worried about it just as Microsoft and their xbox360(which is losing them money).

@ryanwh I don't really care if those come out or not, sony has loads more games that I'm interested in compared to that tiny wii thing and the xbox360.

The anti PS3 thing mostly comes from the price, from what I can gather. I'm just not particularly interested in the machine myself. I have no use for a blu-ray player, as I only play games. I don't watch movies. I have yet to see a game I'm interested in (Mgs4 is pretty, but I don't care)so I'm sitting this machine out until later, when more interesting games come. Also, I'm not a big fan of how anti-consumer Sony is...

@Berserker
Are you aware how long Sony was in the Red for? Msoft isn't the only one losing money on games. Sony's sales in all areas but games have been lagging lately, and they had to kill several product lines just to lower the level of red ink they were sitting in.

Name 5 exclusives.
Just for the record, Heavenly Sword and Assassin's Creed are NOT exclusives.
That said, by all means name em off. I already know what the top two are.

I could get stuff for a better computer setup with that much spare money... use this a lot more than playing games on some console.

@ryanwh I just like some of the games they are coming out with because they appeal to ME but they might not appeal to you though but that I do not care about. Which is Resistance: Fall of Man, Devil may cry 4, Gundam, Warhawk and stranglehold. I'm not sure if exclusive or not but I'm pretty sure they are, but don't hold my word against it. Theres also a feature I LOVE about the ps3 is the internet things are free. Which is great for me as I do not believe in using credit cards online(was once screwed over this way a long time ago) and the cards you can buy in stores are very limited here so free online game downloads will be great.

@blackmarket I haven't heard as much about Sony(maybe trying to keep it quiet) but I knew Microsoft loses a huge amount of money each year its not a problem for them as they are such a HUGE company.

About the price, it will go down with time just as everything. The only people who will pay the price as it is now would be those hardcore Sony fans who will just pay anything for it. Ulike me I will play the waiting game till it just comes within my price range OR I can't stand it anymore.

£415 isn't even that big of an investment for a new games console for the next 6-7 years. I mean people have been given like 5 months to save for it, and a standard blu-ray player alone will cost more than the PS3 is going to.

There is a cheaper alternative that will now be able to connect to HDMI for people that only want it for games.

I know Ken Katuragi talks alot of shit but when he says it's future proof he's right. You're not seeing the higher capabilities of the PS3 yet because develoers are acquainting themselves with the system. Who knows what the difference between games on xbox and PS3 will be in 3 or 4 years. Blu ray can store far more data than the dvd's on xbox. It has been reported that the new wave of HDDVD can't even fit the films on one disc, not one of the first 15 could. You get a web browser, free online gaming too.

It's like people want to knock the king off it's throne or something and before you know it, the games industry will be a monopoly. I can't see why people can't relish in the fact there are different consoles.

If I remember correctly, i think I paid more than £415 for my PS1 bundle and that was over 10 years ago.

Though I do think Sony need to start caring for the consumer a little more, I wouldn't debate that. Nintendo are guilty of this, particuarly with the European market too.

The initial ridiculous price actually makes sense if you look back at what happened with the Xbox360. There were bad shortages, and a bunch people ended up just buying a bunch and selling them on eBay for a hell of alot more than they paid. They sold, too. People were willing to pay. They will be even more willing for the PS3.

Now, when they bother lowering it is the real problem. They won't announce it very far before they do it because if they do, nobody will buy in the mean time, so we're pretty much in the dark for now. Chances are that it will have something to do with how well the competition does (hear that? Buy a Wii first!). In any case, I wouldn't expect to pay $600 unless you're an early adopter which is a horrible idea with Sony products.

Bleh, I totally agree with calibre, but people are saying that everyone seems to be bashing the PS3 etc.

I think the only reason for this is that almost everyone in this community and many others are Hardcore Nintendo fans, i mean RMXP is 2D, yes. Sony came after Nintendo, after the '2D Revolution' as i like to call it. Most people probably ust bash it because its Sony's system and not Nintendos. I think the Wii looks pretty cool and im getting it, but what most people dont seem to realise, its 3rd-party support will probably get lower and lower over the years, as its just a totally different concept (i dunno), and a harder engine to use.
