Post What's on Your Mind

Does HB Games have admin access to its server? In a single afternoon, not really knowing what I was doing, I got a key for my own server from Let's Encrypt and wrote some Apache rules to redirect http traffic to https. I just did some Googling and followed directions. I don't think it would be hard for anyone to do. Is there any reason why the forum software would prefer using http?

I use Let's Encrypt. I brought it up before in the past - it required no configuration on my end, likely because of https services on my server provider.

Doing the GMTK Game Jam.
It's pretty fun though it's just me and my bros gf in a team, so I don't have anyone to share the load with. Pretty chill though with how it's going.

I don't get why people do game jams. If they want to make a video game, why don't they just make a video game? I would think that a game jam would be a distraction from your regularly scheduled video-game-making activities.

It's about having fun with game dev and not worrying about perfect also, it's good for rapidly prototyping concepts.
For me, it came at a perfect time where I finally had internet back, have a friend who is also game dev staying with me and I finally have motivation.

i really wanna write some c++ but at the same time i know ill give up if i do

i recently did that thing i do every few years where i play my old games and feel nostalgic and i want to remake on of the mmos i made except this time properly

c# would probably be my language of choice at this point considering thats all we do at work, i wonder if itd be hard to re-create RPGXP in there. keen to do some proper networking stuff again

does anyone have any suggestions on how to manage events? i dont want to fall back to text files server side with commands and shit, theres gotta be a better way

EDIT: oh i just had a thought, writing a format for the animations would be a slog uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh

I don't remember Midgar taking me all that long as a kid but my perception of time might be kind of skewed. I remember the scorpion boss right before Rocket Town gave me a lot of trouble.

Battle animations are so cool but are a whole thing in themself, so much effort and so much work for so little gain. Reminds me of the stop animation skit in Parks and Rec.

Someone wants me to work for Sammung R&D as a señor graphics dude.

That sounds pretty good on the surface. I assume you would be working on integrated smart phone graphics? Would you have to move? Would it be a pay increase?

Would be a pay increase of about 70k a year from what I currently do (which is pay myself up to the bare minimum nontaxable dividends, veeery well below minimum wage). Wouldn't have to move, it's just down the road from me lol.

It's game related stuff. Not sure the job will still exist by the end of this week, apparently they are considering finding a contractor instead for about £60 less than what my studio can make in a day doing basic client work. A permie role comes with ridiculous benefits (that I've been listing off to various friends and family because it is lol material for me) and the job requires travelling all over the planet - a contractor would be cheaper but the description I got doesn't sound like a job for a contractor.
It's suspiciously similar to the job that Google asked me to apply for earlier this year.
