The performance of Windows 8.1 is fine, it isn't like Vista where everything ran like shit and compatibility went for a walk on its own in the woods at night, most benchmarks show 8.1 out performing 7 so I think it is worth it just for that.
But Windows certainly does piss me off a lot.

So I started my new job as a GP. I've been waking up at 5 AM to get to work on time, and I've basically been working 11 hours per day, 9 of which involve seeing patients non-stop while figuring out how to write electronic records. I have around 10 minutes per patient and around 40 patients per day. Needless to say, I had a lot of angry patients when I was more than 1 hour behind on my work.
I love my new job and it pays well, but whoever designed the computer software for this clinic was retarded. :box:

I was looking for something like stardock as well, I just didn't know what product I could trust, so thank you!
And as far as I know, I have to make a clean partition because of the way the HDD is formatted, which allows for more use of the 2TB drive. Whatevs!

You know what's funny? I have an easier time typing in Notepad instead of Word. Maybe I'm making an unconscious association with writing essays and homework assignments. Even though it's something I want to do, there seems to be less resistance when I type in notepad. Or even, I can spend hours typing emails and on message boards but in Word I'm ready to quit after a couple paragraphs.

Well, it's a lot easier to edit later and share with other people if you type it, but ultimately you should pick whatever you're most comfortable with. You should really get started on it, though!Melanii":1pwj465t said:

I have done both, though I've never finished anything on one over the other. I know that once I turn on that computer, it's over for me. XD

The pros are: no internet distractions, no battery, no formatting, and slightly more portable.
The cons are: slow writing, wrist pain (strange, since I draw a lot, but it still hurts), running out of paper, and no backspace/ctrl+z.

Do you have a tablet or smartphone or something? I have a portable bluetooth keyboard that I'm comfortable typing at full speed on, and having a full-screen writing app like Google Docs + lack of regular chat programs helps me avoid distractions. I like to take my tablet to coffee shops to write sometimes. Turning off WiFi helps too (you can do Google Docs offline). Alternatively, using any full-screen writing program and turning off WiFi would probably help. I like using a different device I'm not accustomed to slacking off on, though.

I have an iPad with a bluetooth keyboard attached to it. Word is also on it. I usually carry it around with me; usually.
It seems to die so quickly. We rarely use it at home or whatever, but it goes to 80% in an hour. ;_;

@Princess Amy: If what you really want out of your computer is faster file transfers, the only way to speed that up is with faster storage. Upgrade to a SSD if you can afford enough space for what you need and you will not be disappointed.
Regarding Windows 8.1: UI shit aside, I haven't had this many BSODs since I ran Windows Me. It's like every 10th time waking up from sleep I log in and get a frowny face. It's always the same error code too: unhandled exception on system thread. WTF? That just sounds fucking sloppy.
