Tell me your thoughts on the controller when you play a real FPS with it.
Did some Portal 2, which has been updated for native Steam controller. Tried HL2 Episode 2 which has not.
Experience is about the same on both. HL2 the WASD was obvious with the analogue stick, but you are more likely to be tilting full-whack anyway so that quickly becomes a non-issue (surprise, surprise, analogue versus WASD movement in FPS games has zero meaning; both are equal).
The aiming and shooting is a blend between mouse and gamepad. Gamepads in FPS games are terrible for fast-turning and terrible for nimble aiming; Steam controller is very good for fast turning but you can overshoot easy (compensating is quick, thankfully) - nimble aiming is a question of rolling your thumb on the pad, however you can't aim reliably at something that's beyond the circle of sensitivity in the middle of the screen.
That's not a hardware or software thing either; you'll roll your thumb for precise aiming naturally and sweep for turning.
So it doesn't solve all the problems of FPS games on a gamepad at all, it only solves the slow tank-like turning that analogue sticks give you (precision is still an issue, but less of an issue than gamepad).
I found that I was resorting back to the gamepad FPS strafe-whilst-keeping-aim-centred technique, which is exactly the same as a gamepad with dual analogue sticks.
I am yet to try enabling the motion-controlled aiming which apparently increases accuracy massively. I'll probably enable that when I try an FPS with the Link.

Tell me how the Steam Link does.
Setting it up was freaking easy. No effort at all. I had issues with my TV cropping the stream from my desktop, but when you turn on Steam Link there's a settings option where you can resolve that.
Unfortunately, things don't feel like 60 FPS smooth for me. It might be an issue with my set-up as I felt like I couldn't hit 60 FPS streaming on my MacBook either. I have 2x SLI 980s and everything is wired, so it should be fine unless something is up with my 10 metre ethernet cable.
I am yet to Steam-Link + Controller with an FPS game.
There's still loads I haven't said because there's lots to say (lots and lots), so ask away.
