Personally I thought rave punk :x
Not rave as in let's take X and pretend we can dance, but rather the anarchistic subgenre of punk guitar driven new wave.

Sixty, rave punk is just people who want the rave lifestyle, but don't dare take the drugs.

"New Wave Indie Punk" is a made up label. String music styles (we'll skip the obvious flaw with indie as a genre there) in to a sentence and its stupid as New Wave music CANNOT be the same as Punk.

Also, punk kids are fucking annoying. Ripping off the Sex Pistols is the opposite of the whole fucking point to what they say. Hypocritical bastards. Off the top of my head, you could argue Tom Waits is actually way more punk than the local 'punk kids'.

Sex Pistols, at the time, were promoting the ideal that you do what you want and try and be unique. Pretty good. So their followers went all crazy and did whatever they liked, such as huge spikes, piercings etc.

Now this shit is sold at Tesco and US supermarket (Best Buy? Fuck knows).

Since you're never going to know at a glance someone's reasons for dressing a certain way, there's no use in judging them when all you know is their appearance. There are too many people nowadays who like to look a certain way so they can fit a certain persona they build for themselves... But there are just as many people out there doing it for legitimate reasons.

New Wave music CANNOT be the same as Punk.

Punk ethic can't be but the 3-chord musical style of punk in itself can, a band like Joy Division were a post-punk/new wave band which still carries the musical style of punk if not the anarchist beliefs. Sadly all the stupid little fucks who only like Joy Division after seeing Control don't realise this and think that they're a slow and depressing band and don't actually realise that Joy Division were a very energetic punk band who supported famous punk acts like the Buzzcocks...man I hate indie scenesters like that.

That said I never really liked any of the outright punk like the Sex Pistols or Ramones, I much prefer the more experimental acts like PiL, Joy Division ofc, the Pop Group and Magazine.

I'm sure I'm getting to a point here...
Yeah, new wave and punk used to co-exist together nicely but now punk has been bastardised by pop that sells millions of copies, which is basically your later point which I agree with completely. I mean how can Green Day try to mock capitalist America when American Idiot particular album had FIVE singles released on a label owned by Warner and sold 15 million copies?
