Point and click Adventure and their greats.

Now i created this topic to see if anyone else liked or still likes this genre of games, because from what i can see on the internet apart from old gamers (20 - 30), germans and myself (18). We seem to be the only ones to find these gems from the so called golden age of gaming good or even fun.

It seems today many gamers young and my own age or even older tend to be caught up in the action pact point, click, blow up gaming styles that have become so successful. And I know that old puzzle games (not even point and click) have evolved into every genre known to man. You cant find a single, single player game that doesnt seem to have at least 1 remnant from these old genres.

I was just wondering if anyone my age or even younger remember or even treasure these old games.

Such as:
Day of the tentacle
Monkey Island
Broken sword
Beneath a steel sky
Fantastic Dizzy

I enjoy a good one now and then. My favorites are the Myst (played 1 through 4) series, Monkey Island series (I've only played 4, 1, and part of 2 in that order), and a few other select games such as Beyond Atlantis (a.k.a. Atlantis II) and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

you should play 2 and 3 of monkey island i feel 2 is the best of the series and 4 to be the weakest. but 3, 3 started the series anew but i still prefered the traditional style.

Oh there was something else i wanted to ask if people actually reply to this topic.

Does anyone else like sitting and relaxing while playing these games because it seems many games they bring out today you cant just sit back and relax because you have to be so alert. where as with the old adventure you could lie back relax and just have to think.

If you guys are fans of Point and Click Adventures like I am, seriously consider checking out Telltale Games' three episodic game series (Sam & Max, Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People, and Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures). They're all fantastic.

I seem to recall an old point and click adventure game I found on Gaming World. It was made with Game Maker or a similar program, and it was very good. I played through it multiple times and enjoyed it a lot. It was made to have a "retro" look so the graphics were similar to old PC games. In it, you played a thief who breaks into an old mansion that is supposedly "haunted" and find that you can't leave again. There are other people in the mansion with you, and none of you seem to be able to escape. The point of the game was to figure out the mystery of the haunting and escape alive. Anybody remember the name of the game?

i think what you are talking about is "5 days a stranger" part of the trilby series of games. Made by Zero Punctuation famed Ben Yahtzee Croshaw.

i never played the oldschool point+click games. never really was much of a PC gamer. i think i really love these games tho, i'm playing Ceville, and dracula 3: path of the Dragon right now, and i'm really loving it. this is the first time i've ever been interested in a video game story ever (dracula, that is). yes i played all those final fantasy and chrono whatever games. this is awesome.

someone want to recommend a really difficult point+click game for me to look up? i'd lovwe you forever <3

Oh, guys! If you're looking for more retro point-and-clicks, Sam and Max Hit The Road is my all-time favorite. It's funny, it's fun, it's challenging without being too esoteric, it's a classic. Play it.

cruelty id have to say one of the really difficult point and click game would have to be either, day of the tentacle (it is really quite trying) and the original broken sword (shadow of the templars (eu) /the blood circle (us))

But i guess there arent technically any really hard point and click, if your looking for really really hard ones some of the old ones can be hard like beneath a steel sky where you can die or have to restart from a last save cause there is no way to progress

You want a hard one? try Keepsake. Seriously that game is so annoying and obnoxious, I dare you to try to finish it without using a guide, including the in-game help system which is basically just a walkthrough.

Did anyone ever play a series called King's Quest? I loved those..

Huge fan of KQ7 right here (never got around to the earlier ones, except 4 and 6, but I've watched my brother play all of them)

If you like Day of the Tentacle, have you played Maniac Mansion? It's the NES predecessor. It's hard to control and the music gets annoying but the gameplay is pretty cool.

As for online ones...have you played the Room series? Crimson Room, Viridian Room, White Chamber? They're all excellent and pretty hard (that is, until you figure it out, and then you're like...oh.)

There was another one I found online that was nearly impossible...don't remember what it was called though :( It had something to do with a toyroom and having to cut open a teddy bear...
