Nintendo's E3

i dont think its portable at all, they said that.

I think that with the new controller and the wiimote, it could turn into something really neat. Its one of those things where we just have to wait until time passes

as for the kinetic, nothing really has been released for it that seems interesting. Also, every game that i have played has had delayed inputs and that is like the worst for me. x:

I admit, I'm kinda baffled by this. Lately it seems like the new game systems coming out are trying to sell us on what gimmick is better. First the Wii had their motion system, and when that became popular, PS3 and 360 adopted it to with various changes (PS3 gave you this wtf ball wand thingie and 360 said fuck the controller). Now it's like Nintendo's the big kid that just had his lunch money stolen, so he's retaliating with a bazooka....

I totally disagree, as a consumer you may see the Wii U controller as simply another gimmic, however I see it as nintendo truly taking the first steps to building a working game layer in our society, bringing gaming mechanisms into our every day life. The game layer already exists to some degree, little tracking apps etc, but nothing truly groundbreaking has been developed yet.

Having a console that is striving to mesh gaming, communication, and their own network with the internet all in one device IS groundbreaking if successful. Lets look at what we have now, Wii...no online community, it just doesn't exist. PSN let's be honest, it sucks for various reasons, design not being one of them I think it is easy to navigate. XBox Live, oooh a community...but it really doesn't do much else but provide secure servers, an online community, and then the same crap as PSN.

So in summation, I think Nintendo is taking the first step to gaming integration in your normal day to day activities, and I think that step is good.

Watch more vids read more info, the Wii U controller is entirely portable, you will be able to download games from your wii onto the portable controller OR play games JUST with the controller, ignoring the console all together.

Also anything of any value that has been developed for the kinect is all on the pc...not 360, though somehow I think that was really microsoft's intentions.

they even said specifically that it is not a portable game system and that the console will be needed. x:
plus anyways there are videos using the wii mote as well

i mean it might be portable but it is hardly a portable gaming system
that would cut into their ds profit

It is NOT portable. it will need to be tethered to the console and likely won't work outside of a 60 ft. radius. what it does allow is for someone to continue playing their game even if someone else wants to watch tv. (i.e. kids can play Mario while dad watches football or mom watches the Emmys, etc.)

Please be informed, it is portable. Of course that depends on your definition of portable(as in not limited to gaming devices that play games wherever you feel like going). I personally believe being able to take my game to the toilet, is portable.

There were statements made earlier in the month that the controller is not an actual portable device, and this is true, it was not meant to replace or compete with the DS or the 3DS.

See 1:40 in the video. Sure this is a weak example, but it is up to developers to find how to use the controller, it can't be all on Nintendo's back.

Personally I think being able to have multiple players play seperately on the same console, is a thing of pure beauty and totally worth the price of admission.

What? Last time I checked it was wireless and the only time it might need to be tethered is if it's charging.

I said tethered, not wired. there is a difference. tethering something when talking about modern electronics usually means syncing 2 things together so that they work together such as a wiimote and a wii, 360 and wireless controller, ps3 and dualshock 3. my point is that the new controller won't work unless the wiiU is plugged into a wall and turned on.

i think that it was a mistake to announce the wiiU at this point in development. nintendo's hardware usually only really shines when it's put together with first party titles. i mean super mario galaxy(1+2) and the metroid prime trilogy are worth the wii itself.

if they had a good launch title to show off (idk like Mario U-niverse or something) instead of HEY WE GOT A LEGO GAME LOL, then the WiiU would probably seem a lot more impressive. right now it's just sort of a "ehhh ok whatever" kind of announcement.

Maybe..... but there is still PLENTY of time for design changes, I mean we ARE talking about Nintendo here, they don't just set things in stone and that's that, I mean who knows you may be able to play games "such as super smash bros" using your wii u controller in download play mode from your friends 3ds, who knows!! Definitely not anyone who can say definitively

Ah yes. Sorry. I forgot that the terms aren't interchangeable.
