Nintendo Reveals the NX (Nintendo Switch)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5uik5fgIaI
Yep, it's here.

Additional details:
* Coming March 2017 and is packaged with both Joy-Con controllers
* Hybrid console and not a successor to the Wii U (both home and handheld, seamless switching between both)
* Nvidia powered GPU (Tegra GPU, efficiently scaling high-level graphics card GPU, integrated with the OS for better performance and efficiency, custom advanced tools/libraries/physics engine for developers, go read the source if you want more info)
* Large third party support (From Software, Bethesda, Platinum Games, Epic Games, Starbreeze, 505 Games, EA, Take-Two Interactive, among others besides general fare like Capcom, Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Atlus, TellTale Games, and Warner Bros)
* Known speculated titles are: Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Sonic, Just Dance 2017, Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest XI, Skyrim, New Mario title, Mario Kart, Splatoon, and NBA2k? Question mark because more titles maaaaybe will get announced in the coming days. Speculated because some of these are seen in the trailer but we haven't received official word yet if there is official release for 'game x' other than conjecture from devs online.
* Game Cards (cartridges) as game-media, no backwards compatibility with the Wii U or 3DS
* Has a dock for home use and the tablet is the main console, dock charges the console's battery
* Amiibo support
* Controls are detachable and slide off from the tablet and can be merged to form a more traditional controller (stick and buttons on both sides)
* Split-screen across up to four Switch consoles
* Has a pro controller
* Main console has kickstands

Seems okay. Unlike the Wii U, everyone can have a screen controller and not just one person.
I hate the name 'switch'. NX was better... But whatever. People will call it the NS eventually. Anything rhyming with bitch is a no no in my eyes.

Once again Nintendo leads the way in innovation. I guess it's time for SONY to steal...

If the switch could play android games, that would be an amazing feat.
Damn, I'm gonna have to buy at least 8 of those consoles. My family loves to Nintendo!

Nintendo's stock is up 1 billion as of yesterday. :)

Further info since the trailer has been out for a few hours:
*Nvidia powered GPU (specs similar to Nvidia Shield, is even listed on Nvidia's site as hardware)
*Game cartridges as game-media (no discs?)
*Has a dock for home use and the tablet is the main console
*Controls are detachable and slide off from the tablet (stick and buttons on both sides)
*Has a pro controller
*Main console has kick-stands

The commercial makes me angry.

Comfy late night game session. Dog wants attention/go outside. Let it run around outside in the dark while you sit on a bench; not like places have leash laws or anything.

Yeah, go bother a girl at the airport playing her own game. Not rude or anything. Rest assured, when YOU play, the people around you will be sleeping or looking out the window. Not looking over your shoulder wanting to chat.

Let's play mario cart, on our way to drive real go-carts. Adults "trying to have a good time"

You're invited to a small roof-top party, bring your games. What a good idea. You can totally trust drunk people with your $300+ system. And if one of the pieces break or get lost, I'm sure you can buy individual replacements.

I don't like how the controls slide off... not because it isn't a cool idea, I mean, I do like that idea, BUT, because the analogue sticks are asymmetrical in placement, using them as two separate controllers looked really weird in the trailer, since on one controller it's on the right hand side, on the other it's in the middle... just seems... weird, lol.

Aside from that little nitpick (I'd buy a Pro Controller anyway), it looks like it could be decent... just waiting on specs now.

Updated topic with more solid info. Anyhow.

Coyote, disclaimer: A commercial is not representative of real life.

Jason, I think the reason why the slide-off controls is done like that is so that both controls get the analogue stick/face buttons in the same configuration and placement. It's an acceptable nitpick to me, due to that.

I would say it's a reasonable bet to make, since Bethesda is listed as a third party for the console. It's odd to be one and develop a new thing if they showed off Skyrim in the trailer.

Yeah but that's like assuming Irrational Games were going to make a BioShock game for the Vita because they were listed as a third party developer when it released, lol :P Also what they showed in the trailer could have just been a gameplay clip from another version, similar things have been done before, doesn't necessarily guarantee a release on the console... although I'm not saying it isn't coming, since I believe it is, just that it hasn't been confirmed.

Glad I don't care for third party BS. That's what PC is for... Everyone should have at least a gaming PC aleady. Extremely advantageous for real gamers.

If Skyrim comes, yay. If not, shrug. My opinion.

To be fair I only buy Nintendo consoles for exclusives (Moreso first party exclusives) anyway, any multiplatforms go on Playstation or PC for me...

Yeah, $$$$$$$$$...
Prepare to pay up. Alot. Even if it's for just one or 2 games.

I like Nintendo. Almost no chance of console exclusives legally appearing on PC. Can't say the same about PS or Xbox. Eventually everything will end up on PC even if it takes 50 years literally.

I'd only care about it for the handheld aspect, and I highly doubt the battery life will be anything decent if it's got ps3-era graphics and cpu to handle.

Reminds me of the SEGA Game Gear (in year 1993). It had a 10 minute battery life. Required 6 AA batteries. Epic fail, initially.

Sega made something called the DOC. It was a rechargeable battery pack. It gave the game gear system a 12 hour battery life.

I'm sure it's possible to create a power block/pack that gives the NX at least 8 hours or 12 hours. Nintendo better make sure Samsung doesn't make it. We don't want fried children (or adults). :sad:

We've received confirmation on no backwards compatibility for the 3DS or Wii U:
http://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo- ... ile-games/
However, we've received confirmation that both of the joycons are packaged with the console, and the cartridge format are known officially as "Game Card".

Nintendo however refused to comment on if the Switch can play mobile games or the battery life, but for the latter (in the article), they said "as comfortable as possible even in a place where you have no power supply."
This probably means the console has a decent battery life.

Also that there will be no more news about the console until next year:

Anything using an analog stick, directional pad, shoulder buttons, or rumble controller feature is copying Nintendo. I'll leave it at that...
