:) Hello people!
We're back on tracks after several months of nothingness !

I'm recoding the engine using Gosu + Chipmunk(2d physics) in Ruby :)
But we're still using RPG Maker VX to create our data.

So far in the recoding -> Everything up to displaying the map and moving in it. but no animations, no main menu,
I'm currently working on the physics engine, running tests

Enjoy!

I've been waiting for this announcement since I saw you in the Gosu forums :)
The best thin about it is, that is uses OpenGL, so you can use GLSL to add some nice looking effects, perhaps radial blur or something.

I'm a Castlevania fan so... for Dracula's sake, please make this a good game ;)

This looks BADASS! Castlevania is awesome. Are you using Devil May Cry music for the main menu screen? Just wondering, that what it sounds like! Good luck with the project!

Yes Swick, we did use in one of our video the DMC4 title screen music, I tweaked it to get the voice of shanoa from the old OoE trailer, saying castlevania, and put it to replace Trish Voice. :) Was pretty fun to do.

But we're working with our composers to get a proper title screen BGM.

GLSL is something completly unknown to me.. even if shaders are something pretty cool :), I don't think will include this.

Hello people :)
The project is re-spawning again after a year without giving news! Sorry about this!
It was kinda dead... but not anymore!

Still using gosu, no more chipmunk.
We're dropping RPG maker; and we're making our own editor that is entirely focused on our needs.

It's not a "castlevania" anymore. we don't want problems later. so It's now simply called "Moonlight Requiem"
website updated with some news and a new video: http://moonlight-requiem.trebor777.net

I'm gonna update our original post as well!

Cheers!

Hello People !
Small news update!

Very nice progress on the Game Editor We can start creating some data for the actual game as well as very basic maps (like the ones in the video) a lot remains to do for the actual level creation.
Database is correctly exported and imported ingame
So now I can do some progress on some stuff.

Dropped items now collide with map as well. Need to code the "pick it up" part :p
Shouldn't be long but couldnt test it until I actually some data to try it out.

Going to introduce the concept of friction ( we only had mass so far ), it'll be mostly used for some level properties ( ice maybe :p ) and gameplay stuff ( heavy block is hard to push :p) (still need to code the physics for that )

We shall have some new screens to show at some point (probably within the next 2-weeks) showing the new HUDs. my partner in crime is working on it although is having some inspiration issues right now. :p let's not loose faith here!

IF (BIG IF) every goes according to plan, :p We shall have Kurkoboltsi( http://kurkoboltsi.deviantart.com ) doing the character concepts and illustrations for the game :p ( oh yeah ).

We also added a tiny thing on our website, but I won't tell you, you have to find you by yourselves :p (Yes I'm evil like that)

Couldn't wait longer :haha: here's a tiny video update ;p
( I already hear the "ooooouuuh those graphics are reaaally bad )

Too bad this is no longer Castlevania. I understand the reasons behind it though. The engine looks promising, seems very smooth. Good luck.
(one small thing, the rotating text selection on the name screen really doesn't look good imo. Theres a lot of blank space around it and I have to ask how practical it is to spin through the whole alphabet plus other characters. I guess thats a pretty redudant comment when things are likely to change, especially when your main character is currently a green box :D )

Thx for your feedback:) :fap: (finally someone lol)
We're gonna stay fairly close to the castlevania series but still gonna have some changes compared to the series.
Obviously the screens between the title screen and the map are still based on the VX version :) so yeah that's gonna change :p
Good point on the TextRing :)
I Think I'm gonna speed it up so it's as fast as a Selection Grid of character; or directly do Keyboard Input (although that'd be a lot less pretty since it'd be only a textbox).

Lol, I know how annoying it can be to not get any feedback after putting effort into announcements :) . Its good to know you'll be sticking to the same formula.

that's what happen when it's not on RPG Maker lol :p
Although Im wondering if VX could handle the current engine... ( the collision system is really simple overall compared to what I used on the previous versions ). Anyway I guess we'll never know.

I promise as soon as we have some art to show, You'll know about it!

Update :)
We have made some progress on remaking the interface, here's a quick look at it:
