Metal Gear Solid vs Splinter cell

Kojima is a liar, he said mgs3 was his last game now he is bring this out. Anyways. I am looking foward to this game. Ill buy a ps3 just to play this. I probably wont play anything else. Im actually counting down, yea. I cant wait for this game to come out. Who else feels this way. IMO, I think solid snake could kick sam fisher's ass any day of the week.

I'd say they're completely different. Whereas Splinter Cell is based completely around the gameplay of stealth, Metal Gear Solid is based completely on its story, and cinematic elements. I haven't played the last Splinter Cell, but every single one of them always just strikes me as completely unrealistic. I mean, who seriously leaves like every single light in a facility off? It's never that dark inside a building that people are actively walking around in.

Splinter Cell just seemed unrealistic to me because he can somehow not be seen in the dark even though he has glowing green lights all over his body... O.o

But yeah, MGS owns.

you can compare the both because they are of the same genre. Its just that mgs tells thier story in a totally amazing way, while splinter cell seems to copy from the news, more generic sounding.

I liked Splinter Cells stealth aspects and it allowed for more greater control, Metal Gear Solid though is good. Rainbow Six is another favorite though. Just putting that out.

When did he say MGS3 would be the last one?
It wouldn't make sense, leaving the story in a cliffhanger.

At some point he said he wouldn't be the director of further metal gear solid games, not that they wouldn't be made.

And then apparently they didn't want to do it without him or somesuch so he just went back on that and is directing. Given how awesome every single one of the MGS games is though, I can't say it's something to hold against him.

I perfer MGS. The story is so much better, the characters are so much more unique, and the atmosphere created by MGS is just so much better.

Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid have almost absolutely nothing to do with each other except both characters can crouch around. Splinter Cell is 100% duck and cover action. You can fight your way through the game (and Double Agent presented a more action oriented approach) but you can't fight like in MGS I.E. out in the open and guns blazing.

Metal Gear Solid may be subtitled "tactical espionage action" but there's little espionage going on and plenty of action. Snake is almost always discovered within the first 30 minutes of the game (and this is ALWAYS a story element... EVERY BADGUY KNOWS SNAKE IS THERE) and the only time stealth is even remotely necessary is when you play on a harder difficulty like hard or extreme.

Honestly, I think the new Splinter Cell (where Sam is actually a civilian and does things IN THE OPEN) is a really awesome turn and looks like more fun that MGS4... which if I told myself that 8 months ago, I would have shot myself for cursing the name of MGS. The idea of being improvise fighting and shit in the open is just straight up amazing and I like the idea better than futuristic camoflauge and fighting fucked up mutant robots even though MGS has always delivered in the story aspects.

So it all depends on your taste. Sneaking and cover, or sneaking and shooting. Saying they're the same is like saying Final Fantasy 12 and Dragon Quest 8 are alike because they're both RPG's.

At the end of splinter cell I found myself not even caring about the characters or what the hell the mission was about. And thats where I think mgs shines. I want to play and I want to finnish, I care about the characters and what happens for them.

Even the old foxdie-injected, smoking, cancer-infected, etc... could beat sam fishers single handed with a blindfold ^^

OMFG, so I get to play as Jason Bourne?! Dream come true!

You say they're both different games though but in the end, you compare them by saying that'd be more fun than MGS4.

The new Splinter Cell sounds like you're in a civilian environment where subtlety and being inconscpicuous is key where as MGS4's set in the midst of a raging battlefield where survival, politics with the other PMCs and cover and camouflage is key. If the two were different back then, they're way more different now.

Besides, even though I love the gameplay of the new Splinter Cell (from what it sounds like), The Beauty and The Beast unit is just awesome. Especially when you've seen what they look like inside T_T so cool. The anime-ness and unrealistic campiness of the MGS series is also something to look forward to. + You don't get badass dialogue in Splinter Cell.

"War transforms us Snake... into beasts."

So... new Splinter Cell more fun? Probably not. I'd most likely play them during different moods/ temperaments. And I'd have loads of fun with both.

MGS has not delivered good stories. The stories for those games make no sense at all, and are often so bizarre as to be laughable. Anyone remember the Laleloolelo or whatever? Give me a break. And I dont think the games are all that much fun either. As for splinter cell, eh.

Just because you don't bother to undestand the story doesn't mean it makes no sense. Especially MGS2 requires thinking.

This is true. The whole game (ALL of them) are soaking wet with conspiracy-theories. This makes the game so difficult to understand.

The story is complex, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. For someone like me whose beaten each game of the franchise atleast three times(Metal Gear Solid 1 four times) it makes perfect sense. Kojima leaves things in mystery for a reason, such as the Lalelulelo and The Patriots, Olga's baby, Vamp's immortality... and he's always done that. Metal Gear Solid 2 in particular brought in a lot of philosophical and government-influenced concepts. In the beginning of Metal Gear Solid 2 we meet a character named Fortune who can't be harmed by bullets or any projectiles. The player is going "WHAT?! How unrealistic." and by the end, without spoiling it, you realize how and why. Metal Gear Solid is original, and realistic in it's own time. It's almost as if it doesn't take place on Earth, but a more imaginative and off-centered Earth. It's that japanese originality that gives it that 'feeling'.

It isn't like Splinter Cell in that it isn't a game that's sole purpose is depicting realism. Instead it draws from realism and is inspired from fantasy.
Kojima always seems to focus on Heroism and always brings in a set of interesting characters that usually harbor their own motives, have their own story and their own conclusion.

The game makes sense, it's just complicated (as is 'real life'). Mystery is a great element to work with, it draws you in. If everything was presented to you right away there wouldn't be much intrigue. Kojima has promised to tie all ends, and I can't even imagine what he has in mind, but I know it will be good.

*nod*
exactly, I agree you you in every aspect. I also thing that the characters are more developed than in splinter cell. Mainly because kojima is an amazing story teller.

I like Metal Gears Story and that's it. Let's face it, the gameplay is horrible. Thats why I love Splinter Cell. It gives me a real fealing. You really have to care about the nose you make, where you are in the shadows or not. I especially like Double Agent. Emile Dufraisne was one of the best video game villains in my opinion. Reminded me of an earlier James Bond villain. Also, I like Sam Fishers black humor, especially when he makes fun of himself.
