I just finished Arc IV of MOTW. It was most enjoyable, more enjoyable than 99% of commercial games out there.
But now I can hardly wait for the next part (Arc V) to see what happens to everybody.
Bits I liked muchly:
The story is really good, it unfolded very smoothly (not many twists though - not yet anyhow).
The tileset and mapping is very good.
The battles were challenging enough without being impossible (although a couple seemed impossible and took a few attempts).
The mini games for the most part were a welcome change.
Some good jokes and funny bits.
Bits I liked not so much:
The story is strickly linear, to the point of net being able to backup so you could level up, which I needed to do at some stages as I was too week.
The underwater minigame (Arc III) needs breaking up into shorter bits rather than starting at the very begining once you fail even the last leg. I almost threw in the towel at this point as the minigame was totally unexpected and very difficult for me, but as I was reluctant to surrender I went back to it after a few days. I spent over an hour getting through that stage (I'm not saying how much over either).
The cut scenes were too long at some points, they should be broken up into shorter scenes with a bit of game play in between or something (not that I didn't enjoy them, I really did, but I did need to leave the game often and I couldn't save until the scene ended).
When towards the end of a segment (or area), I thought of spending some time fighting to level up a bit but the story never let me, next thing you know you're into a boss fight, long cutscene, then a trip either home or somewhere else. I would have liked to hang around a bit to explore some more after the boss fight, I missed some valuable items because of not being able to go back to an area afterwards. Also at other times I was told I couldn't go into a certain area as there was no point or it was too rough or what ever, it felt very linear at those bits (but at least I never ever got lost or didn't know what to do next).
Too many bad guys still had too much fight in them after being thrashed, it didn't seem fair, they should have been at my mercy. When I got thrashed I died and had to go back to a saved game, its discrimination towards the good guys, I should report you to the Chair Fairy.
Damn, now the bad bit is bigger than the good bit, but only becasue I enjoyed the game so much and would like to see it perfected, its well worth perfecting, job well done to all concerned.
BTW: I clocked up over 40hours in the game, I wasn't in a hurry (and didn't cheat).
