Master of the Wind

Master of the Wind (Complete!)

Is there a level cap in each Arc that the characters can't go over?  And do you add new skills in the newer arcs that weren't in the previous arcs?
I was wondering this since you can bring your saves over from one game to the next.

There's no level cap, but ArtBane had a pretty general idea of how high-level most players would get in each arc and designed the skills that way. If you're in the Super Pack, for example, and you get above like Level 20, you won't learn any new skills because AB didn't add new skills past that until Arc III. Sometimes the skills do get adjusted (You may recall there were two versions of "Call to Arms" at one point). About the save files, that only works if you have completely finished the arc (i.e. watched the credits) so you can't just bring it over in the middle of II if you're over-leveled and expect new skills. The game will just freak out on you, I think. Never tried it, though. AB might have a better answer.

The way RMXP works is that if you level past the point where you should have learned a skill and the skill wasn't in the database at the time you will not magically have that skill. In the beginning of each arc if you transferred a save file over I do a check on the characters to see if they should have one of the new skills already. So if you transferred from the middle of the arc to get new skills or whatever it wouldn't work.

um i'm embarassed to ask this but..
well i'm curently on arc 2(my computer has broken down and i've had to restart the first arc so many times)
yesterday i finally made it to arc 2. and i'm stuck at:

the part in the mines where you have to enter the digits to use the minecart to get across. i tried using volrath's hint too but i still can't figure it out.im bad at these kind of puzzles..lol

thanks in advance and i really really love your work guys!:D

EDIT:

Well you could always put a conditional branch saying 'If player's level = () Then'... and say learn skill. Could work, but I've never tried it before.

I recently had a failed computer and have lost my Arc IV save. Now that I realize this, I'm probably going to have to restart arc IV as opposed to make a new game. Its like a ritual or something, yknow? you can't start a new arc of MOTW with a new game; you have to use your save.

Either way, I specifically remember something about the series thats always bugged me. There has never been enough money. I would always try to buy the weapons and be forced to sell the old ones as I wen't along. I love doing things like that though, because it puts a sense of danger in the game. It tends to happen in a lot in rpgs and I love it. The only problem here was that the pricy items tended to be a bit expensive and I would then have to grind for money.

I was relieved when the unencrypted arc III came out, and the first thing I did was give myself a small 3000g so that I wouldn't have to fight enemies for money. Wouldn't you know it, I was grinding for cash in the middle of arc IV just so that The Baron could have the newest armor.

Heres what I'm trying to get at; I don't wan't you guys to change anything. The formula for perfection you use in MOTW is fine as it is. All that I would ask, or at least wonder is if arc V is going to be unencrypted like Arc III was. Think that will happen?

I would hope not, but only because arc V has a MASSIVE FUCKING SPOILER towards the end that would be totally spoiled if you peeked into the graphics folders.

I don't think they released an unencrypted version intentionally, and that it was just a mistake. :l So I doubt if they're going to leave it unencrypted.

Not right away but somewhere down the line I may release the unencrypted version of the first five arcs for people interested in seeing the inner workings of the game (or to just F around with the database).

Thanks. A new MOTW superpack would be dandy, btw.

Also, how does des know about the new arc? is he one of the beta testers or something?
*Is then knocked unconscious by a masked figure and this post is promptly deleted*

Des played the beta, which itself didn't have all the flashback scenes completed, but enough to get the general Arc V experience. So he is now one of the select few who knows who Sparrow is. The rest of you will find out in due time...

lol I imagine that when arc V is released it would be like the ending to harry potter seven. Someone will try to be a dick and attempt to spoil the ending for everyone. I can smell the temp bans now.

Alright, how about another question; if someone wanted to feature shroud and stoic in their game as random easter eggs (whether it be by their names or sprites), would you be offended or honored?

I just finished Arc IV of MOTW. It was most enjoyable, more enjoyable than 99% of commercial games out there.
But now I can hardly wait for the next part (Arc V) to see what happens to everybody.

Bits I liked muchly:
The story is really good, it unfolded very smoothly (not many twists though - not yet anyhow).
The tileset and mapping is very good.
The battles were challenging enough without being impossible (although a couple seemed impossible and took a few attempts).
The mini games for the most part were a welcome change.
Some good jokes and funny bits.

Bits I liked not so much:
The story is strickly linear, to the point of net being able to backup so you could level up, which I needed to do at some stages as I was too week.
The underwater minigame (Arc III) needs breaking up into shorter bits rather than starting at the very begining once you fail even the last leg. I almost threw in the towel at this point as the minigame was totally unexpected and very difficult for me, but as I was reluctant to surrender I went back to it after a few days. I spent over an hour getting through that stage (I'm not saying how much over either).
The cut scenes were too long at some points, they should be broken up into shorter scenes with a bit of game play in between or something (not that I didn't enjoy them, I really did, but I did need to leave the game often and I couldn't save until the scene ended).
When towards the end of a segment (or area), I thought of spending some time fighting to level up a bit but the story never let me, next thing you know you're into a boss fight, long cutscene, then a trip either home or somewhere else. I would have liked to hang around a bit to explore some more after the boss fight, I missed some valuable items because of not being able to go back to an area afterwards. Also at other times I was told I couldn't go into a certain area as there was no point or it was too rough or what ever, it felt very linear at those bits (but at least I never ever got lost or didn't know what to do next).
Too many bad guys still had too much fight in them after being thrashed, it didn't seem fair, they should have been at my mercy. When I got thrashed I died and had to go back to a saved game, its discrimination towards the good guys, I should report you to the Chair Fairy.

Damn, now the bad bit is bigger than the good bit, but only becasue I enjoyed the game so much and would like to see it perfected, its well worth perfecting, job well done to all concerned.

BTW: I clocked up over 40hours in the game, I wasn't in a hurry (and didn't cheat).

Wow. You obviously spent a great deal of time with the game. Thanks for the lengthy post and the criticisms. I am all too aware that the previous arcs need tweaking and that's our highest priority after getting arc V out.

Arc V is finished!
So all that needs to be finished is some graphic touch-ups and a few bug tests? fabulous. Would you care to give us a count-down of sorts?
