At this current time around the world, there exists organizations that seek to undermine the freedoms that we all hold dear around the world, although some may be more repressed than others. I won't say we don't deserve this, having done the Crusades and all, but at what point does the world turn it's head towards it's un-timely demise? Radical Islam has been a threat for many years, and seeing as how there are more Muslims than any other religion (athiesim isn't a religion, it's principles), we should all take a look at this real threat. Near my home is a place called Islamberg. What is it? I don't know, I didn't know it existed until there was a report of gunfire every weekend and a reporter went to the camp. What does a Muslim community, who follow the "peace-loving ways of Muhammad", need with guns?

State Police and FBI agents went there, and being trained to be sensitive to religious types, they had a picnic. They didn't investigate the shootings, but hey, they had a picnic.

My postulation for you RMXPers is thus: Do you believe there is a global jihad, and if so, why do you think that? If not, why do you feel that way?

No. There is not a great plan to convert everyone to Islam by anyone with the power to enforce it. If you ask a Muslim if they want the world to follow Islam, then obviously the answer is yes.

Yes, a literal reading of the Quran does lend itself strongly to fascism, or a Theocracy, as it used to be called. So do all religious books. Console yourself by knowing that the Muslim world is getting younger, are demanding more religious freedom, more tolerance, and overwhelming do not want to spend their spare time randomly blowing up their neighbours in the name of Islam. The vast majority of the Islamic world think that riots over teddy bears, or satire graphic commentary on Mohamed are more offensive than the initial action.
The Muslim world is not a homogenous mass as you seem to think judging from the above ("...seeing as how there are more Muslims than any other religion") and when you listen to the sane and sensible people who have spent time in Muslim trouble-hotspots, you'd know that religion was only the root cause in a minority of cases.

Get off Jihadwatch immediately. It's f***ing stupid. A third of the stories on there just aren't true, the other third are removed from context, and the last third is just plain agitprop. Jihadwatch is maintained by some very questionable people who you should not trust to get a balanced view of the Arab/Muslim world.

What do you suggest? What would make you comfortable? Should we set up re-education camps, or sponsor a UN resolution calling for a blanket-ban on conversion to Islam?

Obama seems to be very sensible, and hopefully, under him, the CIA will be allowed to fully investigate the Saudis - something they have been unofficially barred from doing for at least twenty years, who fund most of the groups who want to kill us, and constitute the largest threat to us mainly because we are *not* paying attention to them. It actually makes me so sympathetic to Wolfowitz's grand "Break OPEC" plan.


Like Arbie says, it's a phase. It won't pass tomorrow, but it will pass - far sooner if we support the moderate elements rather than continually undermining them for short-term gain.

stop being ignorant and consider that muslim extremists are just that -- an extreme. past the misogynistic, violent, and incorrect interpretations of islam that people like to bring up in these sorts of discussions, islam is basically just christianity with two-thirds fewer gods. if you're going to judge islam based on its loony adherents, look up people like charles manson first and think about how that'd reflect on christianity were you to do the same there.

my point being that your assertion that "there are more muslims than any other religion" means nothing -- the vast majority of those muslims wouldn't be crazy about the idea of waging a war on the other religions.

I don't exactly know where you got this information but if it was from some sort of news report saying that Islam had just surpassed Christianity then they were also mistaken.

What could have led you to think this may be the fact that Islam recently became more popular than Catholicism, not Christianity. The Islamic population is around 1.5 billion, the Catholic population is around 1.4 billion, and the Christian population is about 2 billion.

And if you count these things by denomination you should know that Islam's biggest denomination only has 1.2 billion members.

And I just thought I'd get all of that out there...

Honestly, it's highly unlikely that there will be mass conversion to Islam in the Western world after all of the Islamic terrorism...
