I'm not just fit, I'm WII fit!

Ahahahahaha i crack myself up sometimes.

So with our shitty lifestyles apparently getting a little bit of exercise is a good thing because since we don't spend hours hunting and scavaging for our next meal we're all starting to get a little FAT.  I'm not HORRENDOUSLY overweight or anything but I have packed on a few winter pounds due to sitting inside and doing schoolwork, so i decided to try it.

(Note: I am perfectly aware there are other exercise options available and that wii fit is not THE SINGLE PRODUCT IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND that will help you lose weight, this isn't a thread where you can go "hurr derp durr you bought wii fit just go to a gym you moron" This is a place to discuss the benefits and detriments of wii fit as both a game and exercise tool, I don't care if you want to troll wii fit as being 'less hardcore' or whatever go talk about it somewhere else fuck you fuck you fuck you.)

I've been trying to slip it into my morning schedule and so far it's worked out well - I spend about a half hour on it right when I wake up.  I've noticed some slight loss in my weight gain since i started, a couple pounds or so, but then again I don't do much exercise outside of Wii Fit nor have I made any real efforts to alter my eating habits.  I expect to keep losing but at a similairly slow pace, which is fine for me.  Burning 20 pounds off in 2 weeks makes it easier to gain it back.

What I HAVE noticed are significant improvements in my balance/posture.  Before I had minor back aches etc that would come on once in a while due to me slumping over in shitty chairs and owning a super cheap but super horrible mattress, but they've been basically ELIMINATED due to using wii fit's balance and posture-related exercises every day.  My family is known for a fucked up back/spine too but I'm beginning to feel like I might be able to avoid some of those problms if I keep using it because the results in this area are GREAT.

As a GAME it's alright, but it's another wii sports/wii play.  You're not going to do into the exercises when friends are over but there's a healthy selection of minigames that are both well made and fun to play, especially with a group.  I mean the only real problem is that the wii is already LOADED with that style of software so it kind of makes wii fit's actual gaming modes fade into the background.  But they'll probably end up being like wii play and wii sports - fun little games you'll laugh and marvel at the first time you play them, and though they lose their luster quick when playing them by yourself they suddenly seem new and fun again when other people are over.

So yeah anybody else other than me have this game?  (I suspect not many due to it being super hard to find and lots of this people on this forum not giving a shit about moving their fat filthy bodies)

hey can you explain like WHAT KIND OF EXERICISES do you do and how it measures and stuff. like it would be cool to get into the habit of exercising and also use my wii which is just sitting there gathering dust. but like WHAT DOES IT DO and how hard do you actually work out

I already have exercise equipment at home to get fit that I use so I don't feel like spending money on a thing to have me look at a little computer woman do the same shit I'm doing thanks

Though I like the idea and agenda of health awareness that everyone, even technology, is making a push for. A friend of mine has it and she hasn't noticed any real weight change, though she hasn't made any lifestyle changes either ... While exercise is important, it really doesn't do much unless you pair it with a good diet. (excluding athletes who burn like 3-5000 calories a day doing shit like marathon training and kickboxing and shit)

(BTW if you lose 20lbs in 2 weeks, you're either obese, or you have cancer. If you're normal to semi-overweight don't expect any more than 3-5lbs a week, while burning your daily caloric intake down to 1000calories below your recommended intake. Some metabolisms are faster than others. It took me like 3 months to lose 20lbs, with diet AND exercise together. Takes my husband about a month. He's an asshole :[ )

She's hot though

Well i think the game assumes you are a FAT FUCKING FAGGOT because it'll only let you do like 5 reps of each exercise or whatever when you begin but eventually you can increase that number to something more akin to a workout for regular-sized people, the more you play a specific exercise you can unlock more consecutive reps/time so it's kind of neat that it builds you up to higher challenges but if you're already fit it's kind of lame to have to unlock something closer to your level

the balance board is based on the scales that sumo wrestlers use - since sumos are too fat they actually have to use two scales one for each foot to weigh in for fights, the balance board is the same in that it has 2 scales but it also detects pressure so if you're putting more weight on your left big toe or something it detects that, it's kind of neat.

The actual exercises are broken down into 4 sections:

Yoga - works on stretching, balance, posture etc.  it's not really physically DEMANDING but it really helps out with basic things that everybody has trouble with but doesn't know it, like balance while walking or healthy posture etc.  Most of my back problems come from this king of thing and yoga has really helped out.  The balance board measures how much weight you're putting on each foot or how well you can balance while within a pose.

Strength Training - this is actually where you build and tone up muscles, this consists of shit you can actually easily do WITHOUT the balance board like pushups or lunges or whatever but the balance board reads how much pressure you're putting on your hands or feet while doing them and tells you like an OPTIMAL reading, like for a lunge it will tell you if you're in the correct position etc if you're on the board.  Again you can do this without the balance board so it's not necessary but i find it to be a little more helpful as it tells me if i'm doing the exercises right.

Aerobics - aerobics are more minigame-ish but they're designed specifically to burn fat, but again some of them can be done without the balance board.  the jogging one, you could always just jog in place or GO OUTSIDE but the scenery you got through onscreen is really pretty :3  the hula hoop one is also neat but unless you could spin 5 hula hoops at a time IRL stick to the game.

Balance games - these are the minigames and party games, like ski jumping or heading soccer balls and shit.  not really fitness related but fun!

In the end you DON'T NEED WII FIT to get fit. A lot of the exercises it has can be done by yourself, however I find it quite helpful as not only is there an onscreen trainer guide but the balance board itself measures what you're doing and tells you if you're doing the exercise correctly or not.  It's kind of lame (especially for already fit people) that you need to unlock more reps in strength training or longer holds in yoga but once you get those high numbers workouts can be pretty damn invinigorating.

I've been wanting to get this, mostly because I get really freaking bored with this shit normally, and I figure it being presented as a game would help me actually stick with it.  Plus, with winter coming up, I wont be able to go for my walks everyday, so this would be something to do when there's like... six feet of snow on the ground. :x

And who knows, maybe I can get my stepmom in on it too.  She keeps complaining she's out of shape, so... *shrug*

Atemu how much do you weigh?

No this isn't a LOL ATEMU IS PS3 HUEG joke, i'm completely serious because you're a little larger than average and i think the balance board's limit is 300 pounds.  Now I don't know if you're anywhere near 300 or not so don't get uptight.  The balance board actually yells at you if you're too heavy for it though :x

I've been looking everywhere for this game, but it's been sold out since it first came out. There's a store in my town that has started to sell it, but it hasn't been in stock for a while. I hope it works, because I'm not overweight or anything, but I hate exercise and I'm started to notice that I'm getting more lazy and sluggish. I just hope it works :)

Yes, my little brother and sister got this a while back and the first order of business was seeing how much punishment it could take. It was funny in a "my actions have met with gratification!" kind of way, but I can't help but think that someone who is actually 300 pounds would feel rather insulted -- not to mention annoyed at returning something that you shelled 80 bucks out for.

I played the little thing over the summer, and I have to say, it's a fun little workout aid. Then, of course, there's the fun of abusing the system (lying back and shaking your hands ultrafast on the running minigames so that you can pass your instructor and trip in a spectacular fashion,) and the little balance games are definitely very fun (although tough if you're not right up there with balance and posture -- I had no idea I was offset to the rear and left, but it hurts me in the "roll the ball w/ a face on it into a lil' hole" category. I haven't used it except for that first little foray into the world of talking double-scales (it's mostly my little brother and sister, the aforementioned "shake the wiimote and trip in a spectacular fashion" people) because I don't stick well to any sort of schedule right now and if I started doing my push-ups through Wii Fit I'd probably end up doing most of them without the console anyway, and then it'd get mad at me. :(

I honestly don't know; I've lost a lot of weight since I was last weighed.  Still I know I'm not nearly that heavy, so I'll be fine.
