Oh, and do semi-languages (I have a few basic languages I made for older projects (these are not direct translations from English, but are based around rules of Grammar and such)) count? If so, I also have Terilecian, Alnarian, and Raelian.
English: Bye!
French: Au revoir
Japanese: Not there yet!
*Terilecian: Ricoduki
*Alnarian: Aboso
*Raelian: Dreklione
English, very little Spanish that I learned in high school (and forgot the rest when they handed me that magical piece of paper), and I'm attempting to teach myself Japanese.
^see his post -__-
f*cking school is killing me >.> I know dutch, english, french, latin/ancient greek and german. wannabe jap. I need to learn it I JUST NEED TO!! I'm such a ''Bakaa'' :p
The problem with this thread is that "know" is such a loosely defined word.
I can say "I am Bob" (my name is not Bob, for the record) in French. Does that mean I know French? No. So where does one draw the line between "knowing" and... not "knowing"?
hmmm...good point...I know english like I know how to breathe. I know French about as well as young child, and I know Japanese as well as hojimemashite, rusunohikari, and konichiwa (sp?). I used to know more Jap. but that was two years ago...
Well what I mean by "know" is that you know enough to hold a conversation with a person who can speak that fluently. Like if you learned spanish at school, I would say you know spanish if you can carry a good conversation with a spanish person and understand all they are saying. Sorry not to make that clear enough.
English is my first language. Mandarin was a first language but I haven't used it since I was like, 3 or 4 and I forgot a good portion of it. I'm trying to relearn that language. I'm working on learning Japanese, French, Italian, and Latin. Whether or not I actually manage to learn all those might be another issue, but I at least want to learn Mandarin again to speak with my mother and my children. I know about as much Japanese as an otaku (yes, shamefully I am otaku...) and I only have a basic understanding on French and Italian based on my knowledge of Latin... which isn't much either. ^^;
Oh yeah... and... *coughcough* Klingon... A little bit...
I'm quitting French class though because we learn next to nothing thanks to the pointless games we play that don't teach you a thing. I have a better chance of learning French online.
