How does Hit Rate work?

Hi hi,

I'm having some hit rate issues.

1. I want to make a skill that Stuns the target with a 100% hit rate, except for creatures with resistance. That should be pretty easy, right? Well, I've put the Skill hit rate to 100%, and the respective Stun Hit Rate to 200%, but still it sometimes misses. There's this option for States that says Nonresistance so it never misses, but I want the hit rate to lower for targets with resistance to the skill. Pretty normal right? Maybe someone can clear this up. ^^; The strange thing is, that magic damage NEVER misses with a hit rate 100% (at least not so far), but State Changes do..?

2. As for hit rates, I want to make the same skill four times, but each with a higher hit rate %. To do this, should I only copy the skill four times and then increase the Hit Rate each time? Or should I also change other values, like variation / INT f. and magical defense?

Thanks~~!! ^^

To make states always hit, it depends on the enemy's resistance. But to make it always hit on every single enemy, you need to put Nonresistable ON. So basically, make two identical states called Stun. For Stun 1, set Stun 2 to [-] in the right column, vice versa for Stun 1. This prevents both from being applied at the same time.

But as far as I can tell, states doesn't depend entirely on hit rating from skills, meaning it might get difficult to get several hit rates to work as expected, but at least you can get one to always hit and some to have a miss chance.

Hope this helped.

@FireRaven: Well, like I said in my first post, I'd rather not work with Nonresistance as that means it will land 100% on bosses, too. But I'm interested in that whole Stun 1 and Stun 2 thing that you talked about. What do you mean exactly? ^^;

@Juno: Hmhm, that would be for damage, I think. I already had it on 0. =)

Actually, thanks to FR I thought about something very obvious that I failed to see. Monsters have 'C' standard for resistance of states, so there's only a 60% chance that it will stick. I just have to fiddle around with that. Haha, so simple. You see I spend more time in the map editor than the database. XD

The Hit Rate % you see on the states has nothing to do with how accurate the state is, it just determines how accurate a character afflicted with that state is. It's mainly used for states like blindness.

As for Stun 1 and Stun 2, that's probably what you have to do. Make multiple stun states and where you give the enemies lower resistance to the stun states you want to be more accurate. States do not have any chance to miss on their own, if the skill hits the state will only miss if the enemy resists it. This means there only two way to give multiple stun attempts different chances to hit without scripting. Either you can make the skills themselves having different chances to hit, but that will cause the magic damage to miss as well on the inaccurate skills. The other option is to make multiple stun states.

Oooh. Haha, so Hit Rate for States isn't the Hit Rate of the state. Of course. Thanks. ^^

But isn't lowering Hit Rate the same as lowering DEX? I see here that Blinded lowers Hit Rate to 20%, but Clumsy lowers DEX to 80%. I don't see the difference?

DEX is a bit difference, I believe it affects how often the enemy hits you. Also, AGI affects the escape rate. You can check the help function to read in more detail what each stat functions as.

EDIT: Okay, did a check. DEX affects the hit rate of both actors and enemies (it also helps in critical hits). The hit rate is just a basic percentage modified by DEX.

DEX does affect your chance to hit, but the effect is usually minor. A character with 50% Hit Rate will miss at least 50% of all physical attacks while a character with a state that lowers dexterity to 50% will usually still be able to hit fairly accurately, often more than 80% of the attempts.
