hey, is link...?

hey, is link right handed or left handed? it's something i never really paid attention to before... what hand does he hold his sword in?

He's normally a lefty, but I think they switched it in Twilight Princess to make it easier for righties to play.

I googled Zelda and in some pics, the sword was in his left hand and in others, it was in his right. In screenshots from Twighlight Princess, he holds his sword in his right hand. He also pulls the bow string in his right hand. If this if for a game you're working on, I would go with the right.

**EDIT** Nevermind. Go with the left, then.

Link has always been left handed.

The only reason he's right in the Wii version of the twilight princess is because Nintendo noticed that more right handed people were using it in their right hand, and it made the sword anumation act sort of clunky, and not respond as well. And it was so close to release, instead of fix the coding, they merely reversed the game.

But Link has, and save for TP, always will be left handed.

Link is a lefty in games(with the exception of TP). The only thing that makes him seem right handed is, people are often flipping art of him wielding his sword, forcing him to look right handed.

I thought it was pretty clear that I was being facetious.

I was, beforehand, well apprised of the fact that dear Link's ambidexterity in the digital action adventure simulation "The Adventure of Link" was due, in no small part, to the dope and brass tacks that his virtual avatar was oft mirrored, doubtless due to the limited memory therewith allocated for the display employed by graphical mechanations of said era, long past and forgotten.

The next time someone takes my simple-minded divestments of fact seriously, I abjurate on my ancestors that I will bloviate them so harshly as to immutably convince them of the irrevokable and acerbic fact that no amount of simplicity or threadbare exists in my mind, hence or so on into antiquity, especially to the extreme discomfort of myself and detriment of my common wherewithal.

I suppose much was in latin or at least from latin roots, being technically now "olde english," although I did have to use a thesaurus to produce the word "acerbic" and I didn't check its origins.

EDIT:

I think I may have misused wherewithal as an afterthought, as I'm not certain it can be a catch all term describing my "ability to do stuff" as I thought it did for some reason. It seems close enough though.

Well, it's shown that most characters and monsters in LoZ use shields in their right hands and swords in their left hands.

My guess is that it's just the combat style, and that Link's probably right handed in all the games. The actual sword style could focus on defense and shielding over sword swings, and therefore opt for the defensive weapon to be placed in the dominant hand, and an offensive weapon in the .... er... not-so-dominant hand.

Just look at many of the enemies, including the final boss of TP. Although he doesn't carry a shield, many enemies do, and it's on the right hand.

Actually from what I hear the guy who made the decision just thought that lefties were more interesting or something.

Dexterity

Link is left-handed, although this detail has changed over time, with his sword hand being different between games. The instruction booklet for The Adventure of Link describes Link setting off “with a magical sword in his left hand and a magical shield in his right”.[20] In most games, he alternates hands, but this is due to sprite mirroring. Starting with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Link holds his sword in his left hand and his shield in his right, no matter what direction he is facing. This occurs in the left and right-looking sprites. In The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, however, Link returns to alternately holding his weapon in the right or the left hand, depending on his orientation. At the beginning of the Four Swords Plus (Four Swords Adventures) manga, Link is referred to as the “left-handed hero” after defeating pirates that were raiding a Hylian town. In addition, Link's figurine description in The Wind Waker lists his "manual preference" as left. However, in the animated TV series, Link is right-handed. In the Wii version of Twilight Princess, Link is right-handed to better fit the game's control scheme. Because of this, the maps in the Wii version have also been mirrored. Due to a normal control scheme, the GameCube version Link remained left-handed.[2]
