SYNOPSIS

The tale of kidnaped girlfriend's gone wrong... Horribly wrong...

Skevansted - a suburb north of Chi-Town... 2004
Before Ryan can pop the question to his longtime love he is dumped. His girlfriend Shana admits to seeing someone else on the side, another woman... And she liked it.
Before Ryan fully wraps his head around what has happened Shana is kidnaped by an evil voodoo priest who lives in the creepy old house on the outskirts of town... And Ryan's the only one who can save her...?
Should Ryan feel any obligation to save her and what's the story behind Haasten and his multi-dimensional hell house?
A twisted modern-day RPG with a rock opera style and old-school RPG and dating sim gameplay.

Rated M for Yo' Momma!!

Yes, I took it down late last night to upload a newer version. People without the RTP couldn't play the game so I had to try and make a version that didn't require it. Try this link: http://studentpages.scad.edu/~kcampb22/Haasten - Alpha1.1.zip

What you're doing with the pictures is very original and interesting. I liked the first area where you walked up the path but once inside, the tileset didn't match the sprite. But maybe you only did that to have a place to test some of your scripts.
The premise of the story is unique and some of the dialogue is humorous. I'm curious to see how this project will turn out.

Wow! I like this a lot. The tech demo link is broken though...

I <3 your spriting style though.

Good job, keep it up.

I know, I'm re-uploading a different version right now. Just give me... 7 more minutes.

Your spriting style is unique, but there is one problem: The blockiness of the sprites seems to clash pretty bad with any of the backgrounds shown. RTP does not mix well with them either. I would suggest making your sprites a bit closer of a match with the backgrounds, rather than pixelating everything else. Are those sprites done in the Earthbound style? One of them seems to look like a sprite from there, maybe it is just me.

Otherwise, this game is very unique, and interesting, I think it will be a great success. I love the artwork, and I wish the best of fun finishing this project.

Thanks. The RTP backgrounds I just threw in so I had a place to test out my sprites. The final game will have hand-drawn backgrounds like outside and in Gren's battleground.

Dude I freaking love your game XD, it really is awesome!! If you ever need good looking character sets, maybe a style to suit you handdrawn tilesets just let me know, I'll gladly help you out.. *emokids* *BWHAHA*

The logo was enough to get me interested. :3 I love how this looks and I really want to play the demo (which, ironically doesn't download for me). ^^;

The download is still broken?!

Grr... Lemme fix this...

EDIT: Ok, the links have been fixed. There are two versions, one that needs the RTP and another that doesn't!

Earning money for scripting in Haasten!!!

EDIT:
ccoa's agreed to do these scripts. So... Sorry if you were interested, but script requests are now closed... :( Thanks for thinkin' about me though.

What I need are 4 scripts, and each has their own price tag...

1.) Edited DBS... Price: $50
I need the DBS to run more like the battle-system
found in Earthbound and Earthbound 2 (Mother 3.) This would edit the
DBS to include:
- Message text at the top of the screen
- Action selections at the top of the screen
- Remove the party window backer (or make it transparent.)
- Add sprite faces that show up under their battle stats (this can be seen
in Earthbound 2/Mother 3.)
If you want to work on the DBS just ask and I'll give you more detail.

Some examples of what the battle system would look like:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QmGHZ9ne48A
http://youtube.com/watch?v=bZqF_aoR8IU
http://youtube.com/watch?v=iO2NZypuLcI

And keep in mind I'm not asking for the animated backgrounds, shaking screen, moving enemies or any of that. If you can pull this off you'll earn yourself a new game/enough cash to take your girl out to Olive Garden/that shiny new raygun you always wanted!!

2.) Strange status effects... Price: $25
This is support for some added status effects I've made (Suicidal, Scurrvy,
Drunk, etc.) These status effects do random effects every turn (for example,
a suicidal character or enemy has a 13% chance of reciting emo/goth poetry
every turn.) Because of the nature of this script, it should probably be done
hand-in-hand with the Edited DBS script mentioned above. Also because it
needs support for message text to show up in battle (e.g.: Ryan starts reciting
goth poetry in his depression.)

3.) Weak Monster Auto-Kill... Price: $15
This is a simple system that checks the levels of the monsters versus that
of the player before a fight and if the players are a high enough level above
that of the monsters the monsters are automatically killed. This is another
gameplay idea borrowed from Earthbound.

4.) Trance System... Price: $35
This isn't an easy system to explain. Check Gren's tutorial section in the
demo if you have any questions. Basically, trance's are special techniques
for certain monsters and PCs that last several turns and once activated
cannot be stopped unless the character/monster in the trance is hit or
they reach the end of the trance. At the end of the trance a special attack
is initiated (some of them are like limit-breaks.) If you have any questions
feel free to e-mail me.

Payment:
I'll be paying you over Paypal. First contact me informing me of your intentions
to pursue whatever script, then add them into this game and publish the game
(encrypted of course, so I can't be a lying cheat and just steal your code)
and after I've seen that it works I'll write up the total and send you half of the money
through Paypal. After you get the payment send me the full un-encrypted version
of the game, then I’ll send you the other half.

This has got to be my favorite game so far. XD It really made me laugh, and I really wanna play this when you have more of a demo/finished product. :3

My goodness aren't we pulling out all the stops? Why so much for the scripts though? And hrmm where's Sephiroth Spawn/Trickster? Mr.Mo? Lol well I don't know. I can't script to save my life so yeah...But the game. Amazing. I loved it. I'm going to keep my eye on it for real. Good work. Where have you been though? ~Enjoi

Yeah, well, I became a Sponsor just so that Trickster would do some of the scripts for me but... He hasn't responded to my offer... -_-;;

Plus Erk can't make me a sponsor until January when he gets back to Japan.

I've put aside a budget for this game since last September. I paid $30 for a girl I know to draw some character design art... And since I really want the battle system to work ('cause I think it's a ker-schweet system) I've put aside about $145 just for various scripts.

Thanks for the nice comments but, what do you mean where have I been?:-/

Whoa.. 45 MB already! Just for a tech demo.

Downloading now, I hope it will be good. :3 Don't turn this into vaporware please!

EDIT: I laughed. That was good. <333

That was COOL!, but tell me, when its finished, can I really go on an Emo quest? Because I will buy it if I can!

Heheh, you play an emo guy who's girlfriend dumped him because she cheated on him with another woman and was only with him to see if she was a lesbian or not. Along the way you're joined by a surgeon with a TV for a head, a candy-mancer abandoned by the magic guild who'll sleep with anything that takes her in for the night, a loli-shota vampire boy, a female priestess who no one will listen to ('cause she's a chick, and some people believe you need a penis to read the bible) and... Well... You get the picture;)

Let's just say it's not emo to the point of annoyance, as you get to beat down on even more emo kids. In fact emo kids are trash mobs in one of the earlier dungeons... And whenever you're in mosh pits (aka: "tall grass" like in Pokemon) you can fight some of them.
