A few months ago, I got a DVD burner for $60 USD and tried to install it myself. I spent several hours trying to wire things so my CD burner was slaved to the DVD burner, and my old 36x CD-Rom that I've had since I first got this computer something like seven or eight years ago (might have been shorter) was slaved to my harddrive since the cable that hooked them to the motherboard only had two plugs (three including the end that hooked into the motherboard).
I finally get everything hooked up and turn on my computer, and what happens? neither '98, nor XP (I multiboot for older games) can recognize what should be a plug-n-play drive. Add in a couple more hours trying to find and install the driver for it, and I called it quits. I took my computer back to the computer store I bought the drive from and spent a further $75 USD for them to fix it. I was without my computer for a week, and it just happened to be the first week of classes at my college. Needless to say, I was mighty pissed.
