[Full Game] Lucid Awakening

DEMO UPDATE - Check the first post.

The end of the demo was very hastily done, and will more than likely change. I am running into many, MANY plot holes as I am progressing in the story. Don't be surprised if in the next demo a lot of stuff, including major story events, are changed drasically.
 
As an open-minded individual, I have always been intrigued by the concept of the human brian, especially recently (for around 2 months), the concept of achieving lucidity while dreaming. An intriguing concept, and your project seems to do a decent job of portraying it.

Also, a few comments on the game itself: The "Cave" did not feel like a cave. The "thousand-foot-abyss" thing only works for certain areas. I like closed areas, as they feel more cave-like. Also, after that excellent scene involving the three, floating unconcious boys, the good ol' RTAB caused a critical error. RTAB is </3.

So far, though: I like it. Well done, very fluent, nice storytelling, a minor issue with seaming on the intro background, and an intriguing concept overall. A+ for Effort, A+ For Potential.

I'm glad you said that cuz I was gonna change the cave to an actual cave but I forgot LOL! And what do you mean about the RTAB? You couldn't play anymore after that?
 
DEMO UPDATE

This actually isn't a new demo. But you NEED to get this demo to replace the one I put out a couple days ago. You won't be able to play past a certain point if you don't. I had a critical error that prevented you from going past a fairly early point in the game, so you'll want to get this one. (On the first post...as always).
 
Aw, cool. This actually doesn't look too bad. The final map is really ugly, otherwise, cool. Maybe put some more character info up? I'd like to know a little bit more about them. :)
 
hey there, i just played your demo and i really enjoyed it. i like the story so far and i think it is done nicely. the only thing i see so far that i would comment on is maybe having more music. sometimes there are long conversations and it is dead silence. you might have done this intentionally, i don't know, just a thought. but i would really like to see more of the game, it has peaked my interest. btw, does it end when Drakon ( i believe that is his name ) tells you to go to the east Continent? because i can't go east. if not i would really like to know so i can play more. i also pmed you just in case you don't read this thread much. thanks, and i look forward to more of this game! :yes:
 
I'm pretty sure there is no Drakon in my game...are you sure you're playing the right game? LOL.

Um okay let me try to figure out where you are so I can help you...do you mean after you go to Intermundus with the king and then Zaron (is this "Drakon?) gives you the letter and tells you to go to the Dreamer base and teleport to the other continent? If so, tell me where you're having the problem, cuz you should just be able to go to the Dreamer base and talk to the guy and he should take you right there.

For all of you who are wondering if I'm still working on this (all 2 of you :P), I haven't really been lately. I was redoing a lot of (some even major) events in the game, and rewriting some important conversations and stuff. The farther I got into the game, the more I realized that some things really didn't make much sense, and that there were approximately a thousand plot holes LOL. But yeah, I kinda got frustrated and haven't been working on it, but I will always have a special place in my heart for Lucid Awakening, so I won't ever give up totally.
 
yes it is Zaron, i have no idea how i came up with Drakon, good job on you figuring out who i meant XD i did find the dreamers base now. i think i misunderstood something Zaron said before that about an east continent and thought i had to go East. i should have been paying more attention. anyways, i am off to play some more and i will edit this post with any other thoughts. oh, btw, its something small, but i really like that you keep the same calming music in a town and just make it quieter when you go inside. it really makes it feel more like you are really going indoors and that always catches my attention. small detail, but that's what its all about ^_^
 
DEMO UPDATE - First post.

I redid a lot of major stuff and really fixed up the story so Damian's goal was a LOT more clear. Up to this point I had honestly just been doing it as I go instead of really planning ahead...and I dug myself in a few plotholes lol. So yeah. You should probably get this new demo even though it doesn't really go any further than the other one. I also fixed up 1 or two mapping issues and slightly changed some minor dialogue.

Oh one thing, the main things I redid were the part in Intermundus and talking with the High Priestess after that...and I didn't really test them much cuz I was sick of my game lol. So if it stops you at a point or there's an error or the screen fades out and doesn't come back in or something, let me know and I'll fix it.
 
One thing I AM aware of that I was just thinking about in my game that people might find as a flaw is that there is no realistic political/economical/government system in the game. I know a lot of people won't like that, but I there are two reasons for this:

1. I'm too lazy to work something like that out tongue.gif.
2. If I did make an empire, or ruling government or something there is a 99% chance I would be drawn into a VERY boring/cliche/overdone plot point of a ruling empire being controlled or manipulated by the antagonist and you join a resistance group to stop the empire and the antagonist...*cough*finalfantasy*cough*.

So yeah. I know it would bring my game to life and make it a lot better...but I just gave my reasons lol. You can argue this if you want...maybe I could do it without falling into that plot trap.


Oh and yes, I am still working on my game...even though everyone will probably hate the little plot point that I just got to. An enemy becomes SORT OF an ally...and it seems kinda weird and unrealistic; but to be honest I was digging myself into an impossible to climb out of plot hole...so I had to act quickly lol.
