Edit: Fucking portal is bugged. I made it so you always turn into a soldier even if you have no military souls left. Sorry peoples. Its like 2 lines of code, and it will be fixed in v0.5 >_>
 
So Necrile, I think I know why your game isn't getting much good reception: it's too hard to learn and play.

What should you do about it?  I don't know...  Hard games are good, but not only is your game hard, but everything is timed.  The only way to do good in your game is to wait on edge for the rain to start or stop.  It gets tiring especially since the game is already hard. (When I say it's hard, it's looking at someone else's perspective, not mine.)  Kind of like exercising then suddenly stopping and waiting and suddenly excising again...  It's tiring.

Also, ever play any Harvest Moon?  The gardening system there was pretty good.

Anyways, I'm giving some insight I should have given a while ago.  Must have been too lazy to think.  If you made your game simpler you'd probaly attract more people - that's what I'm saying.  Whatever you do though, the game is pretty good.  :straightthumb:

Cambodia (The learning/tutorial section in Purgatory) is one giant tutorial.
And thanks for the criticism; I know the timed thing is difficult, that's why I felt like taking out score.
Actually..yeah. I'm taking out score. All it does is make the game harder.
 
If there's no score though, what will be the challenge of the game?  Are you going to develop this mini-game to a full-fledged game? (e.g. "You are an angel sent to earth to grow life so humans can inhabit it, and it is your job to keep it safe until nature is fully developed.")

If it's that way, it could be a pretty good game (as opposed to being a pretty good mini-game).

It is one part of the upcoming game "iPlanet".
And yeah, its supposed to be a full game, score (or "Area") will now be replaced with Lenai (the game's currency).
 
Hmm, I don't get it...  Is it going to be like GTA where your score is money?  Or will this money help you later on in the game?  Is there a plot beyond the plot of putting live on earth?

Not really :x I won't give it all away, but think of No More Heroes when it comes to the use of money.
And yes, theres a major plot behind all of this.
 
v0.5 of Flower should be out later this week (Saturday tops)
It will include the full version of Purgatory, and fixes of all the bugs reported to me in IRC.
 
I agree with him, but on the other hand o dont think its that har to learn.. give it 10-15 minutes and youll at least know the functions of the game.  The times system shouold be based on what the actor does maybe instead of random rain storms? i dont know, im just suggesting. rain should be based on the time and place/season/reagion the actor is. Maybe that helps alittle bit more.

Mmmkay, here we go:


I played for about 1.5 hours, in addition to fighting the boss in debug mode (maybe another 15 minutes). I found the game really enjoyable.

My problems:
- Well, there's the obvious, like no tutorial, that'll be fixed later. The temple thing, the difference between angel/devil, it was all confusing/annoying but you can't help that, since it's an early version. Just, try to not put a feature in without finishing it.
- There are LOADS of bugs. The one with the organ grinder was a real shit =( make sure you playtest every feature you add or change so we know it works fine!
- It kind of annoyed me, at the very start I just waited for the rain, pollenated, waited for the rain, pollinated, grew, and repeated. Later on it was better (with people & food), and the future features should erase any boredom. But, whatever.

What I like:
- Well, how original it is. The game is totally different to any game I've ever played before (similar in concept, perhaps, to harvest moon), and It's good to see it among the many generic rpg's of this site.
Uh... that's kind of it. Makes the game looks bad, right? But I suppose I can add
- It's lots of fun
I can't really explain what it is... But the concept is good, I liked growing the plants, growing the food, raising the people etc. Overall it was just really enjoyable. Keep doing what you're doing =]

Yup yup. Now hurry up and make your game =]
 
Thanks a bunch man, and I'm incredibly sorry for all the bugs, but just like in Vengeance, you hafta expect them in the beta. V0.5 is coming along smoothly, so expect it soon!

Anyway, I haven't played any demos outside of v.02, so I suppose I'll download the new one.

I'm just glad I don't have epilepsy.
 
Heh, I used to have epilepsy in childhood.  It wasn't too bad though as most people. (Sorry epileptic people!)

You wasted your time with those rainbow gifs, God.

And yeah, hurry up on v.5.

EDIT:  Haha, I voted on old and boring.  To hell with you guys.  :P
 
Be advised: V0.5 will have an ALTERNATIVE release. What does this mean? Find it and you will find out. (This will NOT be released at the same time as the real v0.5, it could be before or after) Happy alternative huntins!
