Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions

I agree, the new translation is beautiful. I love reading it and hearing it during cut scenes because it just brings the world to life. Little scenes just seem way more powerful then they did before. And if what you say is true, Rafa and Malak no longer stink...I look forward to seeing that!

I'm really not bothered by the slow down much, aside from when I use protect (because that makes sound off time with animation...and that's far more annoying) because the Japanese slow down was MUCH worse. I had to stop playing that because battles against random enemies were just---ug.
Sound affects...they make me laugh really. That windmill...drove me crazy! It's creaking was so horrible...and the wind!

Cut scenes..gorgeous. Even if they stutter at times mid video for me when they need to load. (something I don't remember at all in the japanese one...but then, it lacked audio, so that may play fault there.) I love the voices. They make me smile. n.n

And if it's true they made the game harder (something I didn't really hear before, so that's kind of neat) then I must have improved a lot from when I was a kid playing this game. ((I don't count me puddling around on my Japanese import to a measure of skill because...I couldn't read skill names and was too lazy to put effort into trying.))

Names changes, slow downs, translations--all the things people whine about on other forums..they don't bug me at all. But the fact that it doesn't seem like they added a temporary save mid battle, drives me batty! How can I play at work that way!!

(at last! an excuse to ramble about the game...*has no one else to ramble to*)

It's not that the enemies are harder, but they reinstated the original Japanese JP cost. I remember the NA PS1 version had about 10-30% cheaper JP cost in most abilities. For example, in the Japanese version, JP Up cost 250jp but in the NA version, it cost 200jp. Flare in the NA version was 900jp but in the Japanese version it was 1200. The PSP version fixes this.

Also, the job requirements are more strict. The NA ps1 version, you could become a monk with a level 2 knight but the Japanese version required a level 3 knight. The PSP version reverts back to the original Japanese rules.

Just picked up my copy this morning. I see what you mean about the improved translation- marvelous work there. I still can't quite get over the slowdown yet.

Heya, I just bought the English copy today. From what I see, yes, the translation is marvelous, an awesome, amazing work on that. I can't help but to love Squeenix for that. XD In the other hand, the voice acting... Superb. Squeenix don't just waste our time (well, they rarely do that, actually). Respects for the team. <3

I'm pretty much just happy as can be with this thing. #1 - English translation is fantastic (And I thought the voice acting was pretty damned good, too... not that far, though) #2 - FF Tactics I can take with me everywhere. AWESOME!
#3 - FF TACTICS!!!

I'm having issues with the job point thing, though. I've played through the game so many times I actually have my character development down to pretty much a science. The higher jp cost is throwing everything off, and I can't buy the skills I feel like I should be able to. I don't mind having things changed up, mind you, it's just hard to break the habit. My squires are starting to feel severely underpowered and I haven't learned the skills I would have normally learned two battles ago.

Actually, it's most noticeable with my chemist. Normally, I play my chemist through 3-4 battles, getting enough jp to usually get pheonix down and throw item, before switching them over to an item throwing white mage. Not working this time around. Pheonix downs cost more jp, and so does throw item. Arg!

But yeah, incredible. I just need to find someone to play multiplayer with me so I can grind my jp a bit that way, maybe...

Tactics...

OOOOH! I almost forgot! About the stutter thing!

So, get this. I always thought - from the very beginning on the PS1, mind you - that the stutter was intentional. Like, they did it for dramatic effect or something, and for whatever reason decided to do it by doubling frames or whatever. Because of this, I fully expected the stutter to be back (although, I was half expecting slow motion, but that would require a lot more frames for the animators.) I mean, I'm sure I'm wrong, but that's how I've always perceived it.

Ten years have passed, and Wiegraf/Belias is still serving my butt on a platter. Yargh. I WANT BALTHIER. NOW.

Oh, and was anyone as frustrated as I was when they finally got Onion Knight and realized how completely useless it was?

Actually got past that. If you have Ramza as ninja and keep your distance, beating him is easy.

It's his Gigas form that kills me. I beat him before back on PS1, but just barely. I can't remember how though.

well i can beat first form i just use Jump on him and hes dead in two hits... its just his 2nd attack on me seems to be allways critacal

Yeah, problem with Jump is it takes too long and you have no time to recover. By keeping your distance, you at least have time to use a Hi Potion before he gets close enough to attack again.

My trick is at the very start, move Ramza as close to him as he can get. Strangely enough, I'm carrying a LOT of Morning Stars which I don't really use, and they pack a lot of damage (-144 hp at 58% hit rate). On Wiegraf's turn, he'll use Hallowed Bolt and then move away. Use the oppurtunity to move back as well and recover. He'll move closer on the next turn, so he'll be in range for another throw skill on your next turn. Just repeat the process over and over and he'll go down pretty quickly. Oh, and the skills Auto-Potion and Lifefront are very helpful too.

well jump is working... it goes right before he gets to and does 209 damage... its just he gets a critacal on me all the time -.-

Well I just beat him out of pure luck.

Used Ramza as a Monk with Double Wielding (Ninja skill) because with his Bravery, he hits pretty hard as monk, despite the lower HP and movement range. I killed Belias in two turns, my whole party was wiped out and it was down to Ramza with 30 HP against two Archdemons and Belias. I said, 'What the hell, let's go' and went straight for Belias. My second punch attack was critical, landing 635 damage.

Breezing through Chapter 4 now. Balthier's like an amped up Mustadio. God I love him.

EDIT:
Just finished the game. After getting Orlandeau, Izlude's sister, and Balthier, everything was just too easy. I was hoping that there'd be more, but oh well. I can finally say I've finished FFT.

Okay, first, Boost Ramza's Bravery to 100 (Permanantly, using Steel - every time you use it, you get to keep one Bravery)

Then, make him a Dual Weilding monk.

EASILY 280+ damage per hit.

This is how I have Ramza set up for pretty much the entire game, along with one other character set up just like him.

But if that doesn't work (which it should), there's another way (This doesn't work as well against multiple enemies, mind you). Simply make Ramza say, a chemist (or orator - someone who can equip guns - really, you could just put equip guns on anyway, but then you lose out on some other useful skill)

Make sure he has Mettle, and use Tailwind every turn while keeping your distance. After a few turns of this, Ramza will start getting 5+ turns to your enemies 1. At around this point, continue keeping your distance, but unload your gun into them. You should never get hit.
