Note: I'm not an expert at RPG Maker XP yet, so the maps aren't going to be top-notch, and there will probably be lots of bugs (mostly from scripts that are no longer supported). I have fixed some problems in the scripts, using what i know, but a lot of bugs remain, A LOT. I'm getting map making experience as i go, so when i'm finished i may go back and change things. With all of that in mind don't expect the game to be astonishing... yet.

Also... I am designing this game to be a little hard (straight from the beginning). In other words the game won't be that easy, enemies later on are durable and can come in big packs. You've been warned!

So basically this is a fan-made game called Final Fantasy Oblivion. It is based off of the Final Fantasy series (of course!) and will be full of the same mechanics and themes found in the series. I've been working on it for about 2 years now, off and on. The game is mainly based off of the elements of my first two games i had worked on (which i permanently lost a couple years ago D:).

The Full game will use a lot of the elements of the demos but a lot will eventually be changed. These demos are more of a "model" for how the game will be, categorized in "episodes", where i will add more in depth things and clean up older things as i progress. I will eventually make the game its own map, but for now i'm using the Legend of Dragoon Map to create the world. The most current demo goes from the opening (which is terrible D:) up to an explorable area called Splinter Forest. If you are really bored you can try to do all the side stuff also... or find hidden stuff (and there is A LOT!). There are a total of 6 characters that can be obtained in the current demo, 1 is hidden. The current demo is version 0.14.

Music
The current music of the game is from numerous other games such as Final Fantasy, The Legend of Dragoon, Xenoblade, etc
I am planning to compose some of my own guitar music for the game eventually.

Graphics
I used skill, weapon, armor, and some item Icons from Guild Wars (just resized and changed some layers in Gimp)
They have great artwork!
Other items icons are from Torchlight
Some pictures are from Renaissance artists and The Legend of Dragoon

Note: .05 and .14 are both dead now, sort of sucks because it would have been neat to see the progress between them.


And lastly if you ever do try the game... Save Often! ambushes are no fun...

If your interested, go ahead and try it and tell me what you think. I know i have a lot to fix, but i have a good idea of where the plot is going. And tell me if you find any of the hidden stuff (There is a TON!)

Didn't know that... I can change it if it makes anyone mad though, i'm not too far into the game where it will make a difference.
 
i downloaded it and tried to play won't work i click game says.
"RGSS102E.dll could not be found" used run as admin still didn't work.

Don't change it because everyone gets mad, both games are kinda IP thieving already so it's a petty squabble if people get hot headed over it

I'm not getting mad or anything, just letting him know. Because if there are two rmxp games with the same name, neither games will benefit from that.
 
looks cool.. I agree the title should be changed it could cause some confusion if a persons
looking for a specific one.. I took the liberty of finding alternate words for ZERO.. cos I was
bored, which basically means "nothing" in the dictionary, so here's a few you could use meaning
the same thing..

Cipher,Nada,Nadir,Nihility,Nil,Nix,Nonentity,Oblivion,Sifir,Void..

Cipher,Sifir,Oblivion,Void, words sounds kinda cool for F.F. game.

Do you have Rpgmaker XP? I think there is also a program that allows you to play rpgmaker games if you don't have the
one that lets you make projects.

ok things i've noticed,

corrections that need to be made so far before I got lost.. lol

1. at first crossroads the signpost changes when you click it, you need to direction fix that event.
2. the deck of cards changes also when you pick them up, above solution will work for this too.
3. moved this one to changes i'd make, below.
4. the first signpost in the village you get too has same problem as 1. & 2.
5. the mailbox/postbox outside the house does same as 1. 2. & 4.
6. Item icon.. you really need to find custom ones.. rtp looks terrible and un-original.
7. i'd make doorways in your houses.. or put a mat at where the doors meant to be so people know
where they are going to get out, like what you done with the secret chest room leading out.
8. same as above but down the well when you go into fight that bat.
9. the signpost south of village, does same as 1. 2. 4. & 5.
10. when you leave the village to the south, your way over from the path, you need to correct that
so your on the path wen u leave the village.

Changes I'd suggest to make

1. open world exploration is good but only if you can actually kill the monsters and they progressivly
get harder.. not 1 map easy, then 1 map rock hard.. lol.. i'd change that.
2. I'd try looking at mapping tutorials, your game has potential but lacks in the visual department,
most things are just ground level, try raising a few things on ledges.. ect.. to give dimension to
the areas.
3. ok.. this IS a final fantasy fan-game.. but i'd try using original names for your characters and not
ones that's been used.. example: Tidus.. (final fantasy 10)
4. the party menu - change the character picture to maybe a face picture, resize it, or maybe a

5. music is one of the most important things in a game too.. i'd try find made music you can use rather
than music everyone knows from other games.. all these suggestions will make ur game more original
even though ur making a fan game.

Thanks for the feedback Decanos! I'll definately look into all of that stuff.
(I never even knew i had to direction fix those signs and mailboxes, so every single one in the game is like that)

I've been thinking about adding moving enemies to the map (that trigger battle when contact is made) instead of doing random battles, do you think it would be a good idea or not worth it?
 
well, it would be different, meaning the player can choose then to level up instead
of being forced into battle all the time. Just remember though, the bigger the map
and more events you have on it the game will start to lag if you use too many, ofcourse,
there's a way around that.. use an anti-lag script, you'll find a few in the scripts section
on here. ^^
 
Added Version 0.14 download link.
The new demo includes a name change, new title screen, windowskin, icons, etc...
Not much has changed in the beginning of the game besides a couple map edits. But if anybody wants to test i could use some help with the reputation system in Herald City, if you get there. I lost count of the Reputation points i put in the game so far, i think it is 50 (the max), but if your willing to find every point, tell me how many you find. (You can get them by picking up books on the ground and doing quests in the Herald Region). You can check rep in one of the first houses in Herald City (with sign to the right), or in the Herald Hall.

Splinter Forest is at its beginnings, i included the boss in the demo, but there isnt dialogue yet, just a fight if your bored.
In the next version the story will pick up dramatically in Stryden City (you'll know what i mean if you play through demo).

You can get up to 6 characters in this demo. 5 are story characters, 1 is secret.

EDIT: All 50 rep pts are there, there was 1 more than i had planned. It shouldn't mess anything up though if you get it in demo 0.14.
 
Pictures are finally up.
Didn't fix my full screen problem so i decided to just take the pics in the windowed screen and crop them.
 
Quick Update for anybody who is actually still following this (i doubt it)... I have recently started to work on this project again after a long pause. I'm determined to finish this game at some point. There are a lot of problems, but one day it will hopefully get fixed. So i guess you could call this more of a little revival.

The next version will be 0.20
There will be a lot more than what it says i have been working on in first post on the next demo release.
Splinter Forest is complete, as well as a big story part afterward that really gets the story going, i am currently working on the Great Desert.

*I have added many new secret spots (ie. holes in the ground) and treasure.
There is now ONE Red treasure box in each explorable region/area that can ONLY be opened with a hidden key, also found in that area. I have placed them in finished areas and will continue adding them as a new feature in all future areas.

*At least 50 new skills have been added since last time and older ones edited for more balance.
I only need to add skills for 2 more classes.

*Phoenix downs were fixed to bring you back with the MP you were at when you died (they were actually GIVING the person free MP when you revived them, allowing you to get someones MP back by letting them die!)

*The characters have been depleted of ALL of their primary skills through leveling up. Instead i have implemented a new upgrade system, that i personally find more enjoyable, interactive, and strategic. This system is called the Crystallis. It is basically another dimension (inside of each characters minds) where you can spend Gems to unlock attributes and skills for each character.
I have chosen this system because it encourages the player to not only JUST battle, but EXPLORE and do quests. You will earn few Gems throughout the story, only through exploring and doing quests will you fully unlock each characters Crystallis.

*I'm trying to create more strategy within each and every battle, so instead of becoming a tedious task, you have to really start using your head and whatever you have at your disposal. This will require me to go back to the earlier game areas and do some rebalancing at one point.

*The beginning is very boring, i know... i've been thinking of ways to make it a little more interesting leading up to Timber Cave, any suggestions would be great.

*I have been working with different music ideas on guitar for the game, you can expect to see some original pieces in the game eventually.

I believe i can have this game 100% complete within 2-3 years if i want to make it a clean working game. At the start my brother was working on the game with me, but he recently joined marines and has very little time to help out. This is also a reason for the long pause. I have decided to continue working on the project alone the best i can, learning as i go, things will update a little slower from now on because i really don't want to go back to them again like i have to do with the beginning.

Currently as the game stands, its expansive enough so far to keep you busy if your bored.
If you do test out any of the demos and you give up on the game for any reason, please tell me what you don't like or where it's going wrong. Again, suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Version 0.2 has finally been released!
I'm pretty happy with the new Crystallis system so far. If you try the game please let me know how your characters turn out with the crystallis decisions you make.
Are there enough gems, not enough, bad skill placement?

Nice to see you still working on this project, i've just started mine back up again after a LOOOOOONNNNGGGG break, had too much stuff going on that I had to shelve it, I like how you've changed the skill learning, to a sorta sphere grid, adds more to the customizing of your character.

As i stated in a previous post tho, your maps need a little more work on them, and for the start of the game, where you first control the main guy, you need to lower the mob encounter on that screen a bit, i still got into 4 fights before i got to the edge of the map to go into the next screen, lol.

I'd really love to give you a hand with the mapping, but alas im now starting my project back up after near enough a years break from it :/ I hadnt realised it had been that long. I wish you luck with this game, looking forward to it being finished :)

If you need help with mapping suggestions PM me, im not a mapper pro but, ive come along heaps & bounds with mapping.
