Thanks =) Lex is almost back from his whatever. So that will definitely speed things up.

Also, sorry Atoa about me not getting on MSN a lot. I haven't been on the computer much.

Hey guys. I just got some good news! Lex is coming back this Sunday from his color guard thingy. What does this mean? This means Essence's progress should speed up quite a bit. like I said I won't tell anyone a release date, but I'll go for October like I did last year. I'm probably 3/4th done with the demo. Be glad I didn't release a demo last month because it sucked so hard. This will be a lot more fun. Plus there is a better battle system and such (as seen above), thanks to Atoa. But really thanks to my supporters, helpers, and team mates =)! Oh and I got a "Project of the Month" reward from Atoa's site. It's in my sig. Made me feel better about Essence a whole lot. I think I'll still look for a third music composer, but I don't know. I haven't checked my recruitment thread in a while. I took the recruit off the main Essence website (http://final-fantasy-essence.webs.com/). Speaking of websites, I might start working on the "Victoria![aka Closed Worlds]" website. This will include anything Me, Sin, Lex, or Matty works on... I guess. Me and Lex at least. After Essence/A demo of Essence, I have been working on a few things. These are The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Hours (I'm probably going to cancel that and make it something else) and Final Fantasy V-2 [super old trailer when it was being worked on in RM2k3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVTeGzGu9gE]. I'm not saying I'm dropping Essence after a demo... just think of it this way: Sometimes eating the same old thing gets boring. You need to explore new flavors and such. I don't want to just keep develop Essence. I want to put many of my ideas to use. As for the FFV-2 game, I might make it in Dargor's Final Fantasy VI SDK along with a job changing system ^_^. The Zelda game is a huge "meh... maybe". I did sprite a Link for it, but I didn't really start on the project. I just did a few things here and there. But I wanted to get that out to you.

There is this one game being made by Square Enix that sparked my attention... it's called Final Fantasy Legends: Warriors of Light and Darkness [http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/07/26/ff_legends_detailed/] Why am I posting this? Motivation. I like seeing these 2D FF games being made still. Reminds me of Essence. I find this new game very interesting. The disappointing part, though, is it being on Japanese Cellphones... but not all hope is lost...it may come to Wiiware or DS... One can hope~ I wan't those trees for some reason. I'm tired of the Canadian trees 2D FF games have. Those trees are for SNOW... I also wouldn't mind having other types of graphics ^_^

Anyway, yeah. It's a too long, don't read post. Sorry about that. I think Atoa is working on something for you guys, too! You'll definitely enjoy it.

See ya'll!

I approve =D

Oh and there will be 2 trailers to come out soon. And a demo by October most likely. Not a demo of the story, though. The trailer will consist of that.

Hey this project looks pretty solid its coming out nice, keep up the good work guys. I just faved this topic nd your site lol gd job

That's excellent guys! Summoning System reminds me that of Final Fantasies XII and XIII. The Essence System reminds of Final Fantasy IX's Ability Points System (although I've never played it).

Although spells' names are "modern" some sounds strange: Aera (I think Aerora is now "official"), Aeraga (same as previous), Watara (just like previous), and I think there's Watarga, but I didn't see it. I think Celes is still going for an old-school FF.

I hope the game itself will provide solid tutorial(s) about the Essence, 'cause it looks very promising. yet, hard to understand.

@Kaimi
It will have an deep tutorial (like the materia tutorial from FFVII '-'/)

The names of aero tier was from FFV Advanced and water tier came from FFXII. But they can be changed anytime, just celes give the call '-'/

for some reason, i felt that it went kinds slow. Like, to do magic, there's a 1/2 second wait, the animation/damage, and THEN the next character turn. That's a shame; i'd rather like to see the action menu pop up as the animation takes place, because let's face it, after the first couple dozen times seeing thunder, you're sorta like hurry up i wanna act already. There felt like a lot of that over the course of the video.

The essence system for magic seems to be that after you've invested 1 essence/whatevers into one skill, the penalities and additions don't increment- 1 essence does the same as 10 essences for a skill, which i find strange.

Anyways, it was all pretty amazing so far, and i'm hoping the experience is as great as everything seems to promise.

I'm impressed at how well you captured the classic FF feel without copying systems from other FF games.
Very impressed actually, like Jbrist said, it looked like you were playing an official SNES FF game.

Definitely watching this, I'd say it's the best looking FF fan game on these forums.

I tried to keep the the old FF Style in all ways as possible, in all SNES FF each actions only take place after the previous actions are done. It's up to celes to decide if these small waits will be removed or not, i will talk to her about this.

I'm still working on this, there was small flaws on it so that's why on the video the essence level don't change the stats.
But don't worry this will work as you said. : D

@Jbrist & Xilef
Thanks, we're working hard to make things woth of the name "Final Fantasy" ^^

Thanks but it's all thanks to people like Atoa, Lex, Sin, Mark, Ryan and Matty =). Without them Essence wouldn't be the way it is. So they are making the game look the way it is and how it plays. But thanks a lot!

The Battle System looks awesome, but I think having the ATB Gauge AND the FFX System doesn't make much sense since they do the same thing, but differently. Other then that, everything else looks really, really nice. When you equipped a Summon, do you temporarily have those abilities? Or do you slowly learn them?

That isn't an ATB gauge =) That is a "Focus" bar (FB). Focus is like Limit breaks and the FFXIII summoning system. FFXIII's limit breaks were pretty much summons.

Also you only temporarly have them. You never learn from summons.

As celes said the bar isn't an ATB bar (as you an see on the video, they don't fill as character turns comes)

The Skills show on the summon status, are the *Summons* Skill, skill avaliable for the summon when they come into battle,(as you can see on the video, Ramuh can cast the Thunder magics, Haste and Osmose, as it showns on the summon equip screen) the character don't have access to them by equiping summons.

Also about summoning, there will be two options for use the Focus Bar (FB)
1 - Cast: Like the old FF's the summon simply makes an attack (based on the caster status) and vanish, this halves the FB each time used, and the effectiveness are based on the remaining value of the FB.
2 - Summon: Like FFXII/XIII summons, you call the summon to fight, only the caster and the summon remains on battle. This can be used only if the focus meter is at 100%. The summon have access to two special commands: Special and Dismiss. Special is like the Cast option, but it's based on summon stat, is far stronger and cost all remaing FB. The dismis command... return the summon, the summoner recive back part of the remaing FB.

read the essay on ff magic and shit. that's how you make it worth FF.
I don't get what you meant by that...
