Didnt Vivi have kids and Zidane popped out of nowhere? That wasnt explained well. I thought the whole thing was too happy cheesy imo.
Yeah, FF9's ending had closure.  Sorry it wasn't vague or action packed or emo like FF7 and FF8 but you can't win 'em all.

Did I say it was? No. Also, I didnt like FF8 at all. Im not even going to get into the discussion on why FF7's ending was not vague (If you played the game and watched the ending it made perfect sense, I dont understand why so many people say it sucked.)

Note I said FF6 (which is the best, although I am a huge FF6 faggot) as well, didnt say anything about 7 pal.

And I didnt say the ending didnt have closure, I just thought it was bad. Thats just an opinion. Thank you for clearing up what happened though, I was kinda in the dark about all that (cause the game DIDNT FUCKING EXPLAIN IT, like how Vivi died, I had no idea =0)

Either way this topic is getting derailed (kinda my fault), so why not just make this a FFIX discussion topic? I mean, the current topic is really shit, since 7 and 9 dont share the similarities that Fayte had stated.

It's ironic that everyone who claimed FF9 was terrible because of Necron also praised FF4 and FF5's storyline.

I dont know very many people that praise FF5's storyline, as it was really bad.

But Necron was badass.

I'm an FF9 fan as well, didn't realize that Vivi dies. He seems like a tragic character now.

The throwback superboss Necron was awesome and the old-school style boss theme rocked.

The reason why FFIX and FFVII are so good is because they leave so much open to speculation.

1. Who was Necron?

*Iifa Tree?
*Neo-Ex-Death reincarnate?

2. How did Vivi have kids?

*The Mist Machine?
*Some other method?

3. What is Ultima?

etc, etc.

The reason this makes the game so good is because it gets us thinking. And people praise something that makes them think. That's why dungeons have puzzles.

The whole point behind Vivi was that he was a puppet specifically bred for war but gained self awareness.  The tragedy behind Black Mages is that they only live for 3 or 4 years (I think it was close to a decade actually but I don't fully remember).  At the ending when Vivi's kid is walking and bumps into that Hippo kid that you meat at the intro he says something along the lines of "I don't know my father."

I thought FFIX had a nice ending. Good closure, although I do agree that it didn't explain stuff all that well, but hell, it's 1 year later. Although, having explaining Zidane's survival.. would have been nice.

I think VI and IV have the best endings. IX and VIII would be second. VII has the worst. No closure at all. Random fight with Sephiroth. Yeah... hate that game so much.

Though I love FF6 (and think its the best FF eva) I hate its ending "woooot! we are flying on the Falcon and everyone is waving at us!".... horrible ending for such a great game

The best FF ending is by far the one from IV... especially Kains last scene X3

But I havent played so many FF... I get tired of them after a few hours and end up playing frisbee with the Cds/Dvds...  :/

I love how people dont get the ending to Final Fantasy VII and critize its bad ending. I love how in FF7 it just shows you cant save the world every time. Yeah, it was vague, but I like how Square didnt add in a big "Omg the world is saved! Two years later....*insert insight on characters*" and just left it at the world's semi-destruction.

People who hate the ending to FFVII either just dont get it or choose not to get it because they dont want to bother to understand it.

But yeah VI had THE BEST ending hands down. XII was ok and X was overly exaggerated, but VIII's was pretty shit.

Although, having explaining Zidane's survival.. would have been nice.

That is my main beef. Its like, he appears everyone cheers and they hug, *insert character flashes* and cue credits. WTF.

That's not the fucking ending. That may be something they do in it, but its not the ending. Go watch it again and pay attention this time.

Actually, there is some speculation that FFX/X-2 is connected to FF7. Mainly X-2 really. Basically, ShinRa talked about harnessing the world's life force for energy, but that all he could do was make the plans for it, since it would take centuries to make it work. It would explain where Sin actually came from, since he'd be one of the Weapons. However, there are some geographical differences, and some other details that make the theory irrelavent...so I dunno.

This theory I have actually heard before and makes a little sense...but like you said there are alot of geographical differances that throw it out.

It's tied together by some of the worst logic I've ever heard from anyone above the age of thirteen. It involves space travel and the theory that many FFs are in the same universe on different planets. I'll just let that speak for itself. :x

Haha, wtf? I didnt know it was all that. Oh well guess this one is out too lol.

Final Fantasy X-2 was actually intentially given those references, but also intentionally never fleshed out. I don't think it's bad logic. The logic, as stated by Square employees (specifically, the writer of FFX-2), is that the character Shinra comes up with a way to create energy from pyreflies (read: lifestream) and 5000 years in the future, the people of Spira produce spaceflight, and colonize Gaia (FFVII's world) and enjoy a golden age, before, presumably, the arrival of Jenova (so, the Ancients are descendants of the original Spira people, I suppose). The only logic involved in buying this is that Square employees have stated this.

As for Necron in FFIX, I thought he was necessary to complete what I considered to be the overarching concept in the game. The game's theme was Life, and Necron was the antithesis to life. I considered it to be more a symbolic battle (not unlike the final battle in FFVII). Without the final battle with Necron, the game's theme would never have been fully concluded.

I think making FFXII, FF Tactics, and Vagrant Story part of the same universe to be Square's biggest sin.  FFXII is supposed to take place an undetermined amount of years before Tactics but they are really slow on announcing how the series moves from shitty bunny women and star wars technology to a dark and realistic medieval society.

I don't even want to consider the games a part of the same universe because FFXII was the complete OPPOSITE of Tactics and Vagrant Story in both plot and atmosphere.

What?? When did they announce that? I thought they were just trying to be funny and/or lazy by using the same world as tactics, considering in the one for GBA it was a magical world created by a selfish brat that got bullied in the real world.

They literally announced it a couple of months before FFXII's Japanese release.  They said the Ivalice Alliance is essentially a series of games that all take place within Ivalice which is one gigantic universe.  Final Fantasy Tactic's Ivalice was made up but the real world (as in before you go to fairy tale land) took place in the REAL Ivalice if that makes any sense to you.

I think it's a pretty lazy way to milk two cult classics.  FFT and Vagrant Story were originally connected but were pretty much hated by the entirity of Square's fanbase back in the late 90s.  Now that everyone is all like "ZOMG I PLAYED VS AND FFT BEFORE THEY WERE COOL" they want to go back and add all this crap to it like half naked adrogynous sky pirates and bunny girls that wear fucking thongs.

I've always felt exactly the same way.

Except it seemed that they started to try for a political atmosphere in XII. It didn't really take off.

And then with FFXII the world was canon ... makes .. no .. sense.

Yeah, man, most of my friends we all pro-FF7 back when Tactics was out and I would show it to them and tell them how great it was and they just pulled the "Get that boring shit out of my face" and now its like they worship Tactics just cause XII was in the same fucking world. (I really didnt think XII was all that great)

I think it's an exercise in futility when they try to establish ties between Final Fantasies. It's like the Legend of Zelda series. How many Links, again? The answer might surprise you! That and more after this. Once again, you're watching RMNN, your mountaintop news lookout!
