Final Fantasy 1 & 2... AGAIN!

So yeah, when I heard Final Fantasy 1 and 2 were coming out for PSP, I shrugged it off as a port of Final Fantasy Origins for PS1.

I was so wrong!

Yeah and these ones look like they'll be awesome with the RTP too.

Although my question is, if they're remaking FF3 for the DS (or is it PSP) in 3D, why not do the same with these games, it just seems kinda odd.

Honestly, how do better graphics make this any different than the umpteen different copies of the same exact game you already own? Why would you waste your money on this when you could buy a game you haven't played before?

Yeah, Dawn of Souls was acceptable, but this is just ridiculous. Looks like they're trying to do what Nintendo tried to do ages ago when it was hurting for money.

honestly, I think the graphics look kinda bad.... especially the tilted world map. The only graphics that look decent are maybe the battlers.

I'll have to agree with ccoa. No point in getting this. Save your money for something worth it, not just another remake. Square will have to get busy with something else, not remakes.

I agree, it's a sad day when a once former beacon of creativity is reduced to repacking and reselling the same product over and over again. Square need to get on with making new FF games faster, not recreating ones that look like they could have been made by us.


Sadly Square has now just dropped to be my second favorite gaming company now behind Konami.

...Megaflare, Final Fantasy was first released in 1987. I very much doubt they're going to save these for the North American 20th anniversary, since that's not a relevent date at all.

I think it's fair, at least on this occasion, to celebrate the aniversary like this.

Remakes and ports, imho, don't mark a decrease in creativity on Square's part (they are still making new games all the time.)

I really don't see why people get all up in arms about things like the FF7 Compilation and the Ivalice Alliance. People loved those stories and characters and worlds, so we get top revisit them, no doubt as a result of public demand.

I'm not saying this won't be a waste of money, but consider there are people who don't own these games yet. Not everyone bought origins or dawn of souls. (This may be their way of putting FF1&2 on every console out there - who knows.)

It may NOT be a waste though, who knows how much work they put into these things to make them unique?

True, some people have never owned a GBA or DS (perhaps hardcore Sony fanboys?) that would simply love to play the watered down difficulty Final Fantasy 1. I mean, I'm going to buy it. I like excuses to make my purchase of a PSP justified beyond probably illegal hacking of it. So far I have 4 games I play on it: Lumines, Valkyrie Profile, Metal Gear Solid: PO, and ... Alright so 3 games. I kind of want to buy the guilty gear for it though. Never get enough Guilty Gear.

EDIT: Also: I've owned the damn PSP since launch. 3 games is pretty sad. (though that fun piece of statistics is that PSP has more above 8 rated games than the DS claims I should have more...)

Honestly, I would be more impressed if the remakes had the graphics simular to Crisis Core's... if you're gonna remake a game for the... whateverith time, completely redo it with the best graphics and full voice over =D

Remake everything but FFVII... I'm getting pissed! Two prequals, two sequals, but no remake?! REMAKE FF7!! Thats the only FF i want remade ;_; (just because all the prequals and sequals are making how bad its graphics look worst and worst @_@)

Exactly, if they were planning a FF6 update I'd rather they made it up to today's standards rather than some rush job game with FF8/FF9 graphics.

the tilesets are excellent imo but the sprites aren't too good. and it's still the same relatively bland FF1&2, so i don't see myself jumping up and buying a PSP just so i can own these PIECES OF GAMING HISTORY.

also anyone who has DoS and buys this is a shallow idiot.

The map sprites remind me a lot of the Cortez template.

I just hope that SquareEnix doesn't go gun-ho with this, and remake 1-6 again on the PSP (like they did on the GBA/DS) with such superior graphics. It make the GBA/DS games inferior in every way (aside from being on a Nintendo system) and ruin their allure.

Although, I would like to see FF6 done in an updated graphical style. But that is a personal preference.

THe first time i saw FF1 and FF2 was in SNES... Okay, so the graphics wasnt still good. THen, it was released in GBA.. I said "Whoa! improved 2d and better sound quality!" but i was disappointed to see its still the same 3 framed overworld sprite and battlers that have their arms bent like they're driving a motorcycle.

Then, i saw this post and i thought the graphics would be better coz PSP really uses 3d graphics! THen, again, they just shaded the sprites a little bit more. Same damn thing...

It wouldnt be much problem if the story is remade but the graphics should be improved coz, ITS PSP!!!

BUt, it doesnt degrade my respect to Square. THey are still one of the very few companies that conquered the gaming world...

I also plan to conquer the gaming world (or at least this forum) by releasing my game and then a while later re-releasing it with slightly better graphics, only to then re-release it 4 months later for Mac users and again, but with a few new graphical updates.

Sigh... that's enough Square bashing for now.... at the end of the day they still have my love :P

Ugh. All new graphics. They were a stone's throw away from just making 2 all new games instead of remakes of comparitively mediocre games that lack most of the things we now expect from even average RPGs. I dont get it.
