FF4

I'll settle this:

I WANT A REMAKE OF EVERY GAME EVER MADE.

There, are you gonna throw rotten tomatoes at me?

Remakes are great. Better graphics, dialogue, new features, etc. If they made a remake of ANY game I've played, I'd play it. I played the original FF5, and then I played FF5 Advance. I admit, I was a little irritated that they changed Reina's name to Lenna, but I got over it. Y'know, why? Because I found out it only became Reina the first time because of a translation error. They FIXED their mistake in the remake, as well as added two new awesome job classes, plus they fixed the stats.

Remakes aren't made to rake in extra money. They're made because people loved the originals, so they make them better so we'll love them even more.

If you're going to complain about a game being remade, how about PLAYING it first before giving a biased opinion about it?

I'm sure he's probably played the remakes. Or a few of them. Have you even played the original Final Fantasy I? (it's very slow!)

And yes, remakes are made for money. Just like every godamn game ever made was made to make money. Take a look at that rather fabulous looking Chrono Trigger remake that someone was developing on the internet. you know, the one with the 3d? And you remember how Square threatened legal action? Was it because they thought, "hey this is going to ruin how the original Chrono Trigger was and reflect badly to the fans". No.

Your love of the games may be where you derive the enjoyment of the remakes, but that isn't why the company made them. Hell, it's not even why they made the originals. Obviously, we have our different views on how worthwhile they are, but let's not kid ourselves. No game companies conduct their business based on some altruistic attitude towards the fans....least of all Square.

I find the idea fairly distasteful, I think the original FF4 is a classic that can stand on its own even today. The flood of remakes gets on my nerves, but Square's habit of it is only a drop in an ocean of unoriginality that's pervading the entertainment world these days. The onslaught of horror movie remakes gets on my nerves too....

The Final Fantasy chronicles or anthologies or whatever version had retardedly improved dialogue already. Dunno if you played it.

I don't get why people get so violantly angry about this. I don't know if you realize how game development works, but each game gets its own team of people, often in seperate dev studios. It's not as though they take half the Final Fantasy team to make these remakes.

I mean, gosh, if you don't want it, don't buy it.

If you really have to "suffer through" these remakes, I swear you've got some sort of complex.

Magic of the internet lets me express my displeasure. I can't agree on everything, yes?

I'm just sick of all this whoring and yes I have an "originality" complex. I hate it when good resources are wasted on bringing back to life garbage we've seen multiple times before. Atleast the movie industry waits about 20 years before remaking a movie but the videogame industry will remake a game less than a decade since its last release.

Indeed. They're even remaking the original Friday the 13th and Hellraiser which should never be touched... ever (I only cringe at the thought of Hellraiser with SUPER COOL 3D GRAPHIX).

Honestly, there are a few remakes and rereleases that I don't mind; Capcom, Sega, and EA did an excellent job with their classics compilations (I nearly pissed my pants when I heard Wing Commander and Phantasy Star would be available in my hand) but Square is getting out of hand.

Remaking them doesn't really mean they're running out of ideas, they just know the older ones are a surefire way to get more money. So, why bother with original ideas (that may or may not fail) when the fans will eat up every remake they make?

How can they be running out of ideas? Three versions of FF13 and FF14 are coming out in the near future, as well as FF12 Revenant Wings, and Dissidia.

._. are you being sarcastic, I can't tell.
I actually thought the thing about Final Fantasy XIII was interesting, but I guess I'm in the minority.

No, I wasn't be sarcastic at all.

The remakes seem like a screening process for new people joining the company, to be honest. They're often riddled with little bugs and tweaks.

Well, I hope to one day work for Square, and I have tons of original ideas.

And if I get hired there, I'll see what I can do about a Chrono Trigger remake.

Also two new ff's for the Wii and DS. Chronicles I think. But people are still bitching about these remakes. They even just came out with Chocobo Tales. This argument is pathetic.

And while these games are primarily for money that doesn't mean SE is completely ignoring our pleas. People have been wanting and waiting for these remakes. There are people that have always wanted these games in the palm of their hands without sitting on a damn couch for hours.

If that's the case then I pray they completely remake the entire battle engine because FFIV pretty much had the worst, most unbalanced gameplay out of all the final fantasy games (except maybe FF1 where a party of 3 fighters and a white mage were GOD). Not only did equipment barely augment your attack or defense (unless you got an elemental weapon which would magically triple or quadruple your damage) but the skills and characters were amongst the most useless set I've ever seen. Monsters could do insane amounts of damage no matter how much you leveled up, there were dozens of completely useless items that casted low level spells you wouldn't even think of using, and half the magic in the game didn't even effect most enemies and when it did you didn't need it's help to begin with. Why give you Osmose for 0mp when 99% of the monsters were fucking immune to it?

The bard was completely worthless... thankfully he was only required for a short time. Yan was also stupidly weak until you got the Hell and Fairy claws but his skills were utterly useless; why did kick NOT level up? I was doing the same damage in the first half of the game as the last half (whopee, 72 points of damage as a 60th level character!). His guard ability raised his defense to the point where he would take about 3 points less damage... and since his defense was the worse in the parties, he would take about 500 per hit anyways. And what was up with his charge attack (what was it called? bear?). You would lose 2 or 3 turns to do the same amount of damage as if you attacked twice!

I also found it funny that Rosa's arrows with the aim ability did almost the same amount of damage as the melee characters once she got the angel arrows. How come Cecil took more damage then Kain when his defense is universally higher? How come Odin only works on like 4 fucking monsters? Why does Prayer heal the same measly damage it does throughout the entire game making the ability totally useless???

yea, I honestly hope they remake FF4 from the ground up; the graphics are new so hopefully the team doesn't get lazy and be like "lol let's adopt the same ol system as well!" They did that FFIII remake and we ended up getting a game filled with random battles, mega-grinding, and bosses where you prayed they didn't use their special attack more than once a round.

Ugh, I just have to rant about something. I hated FFIV so much. So very, very much.

Someone should be severely whipped or caned or quartered for what they did to the characters in that game.....

Someone must of stayed up late playing the original -god bless it- on some LSD or mushrooms....

Unless the story is meant for a younger target audience...say 3 year olds....
