I'm glad they're remaking FF4; it was and still is my all time favorite out of the Final Fantasy series (next to FF8). Just... Well, I don't quite approve of the style they're using though. o.< It's nice for the younger characters, but for baddasses like Golbeze and Cecil, it just doesn't quite work. ^^;

Cecil is not [ignorance]deformed[/ignorance], he's a "chibi". It's a common form for RPG characters to take. FF7 and FF9 used this style.
And every single 2D RPG ever made uses this style. Besides, he looks cool this way (I've said this before).

And if they make a 3D RPG Maker for the computer, I wil personally make a remake of Chrono Trigger for everyone here! That should make hmaddict happy!

Chibi is used to describe a style of drawing a character in a highly stylized way, with stubby bodies that are about the same size as the head, much like super deformed style.

Yes, he is "Chibi", but he is also deformed.

He looks very bad, and it ruins his character. He was one of the few really well characterized characters in the early FF games. He had strengths, and weaknesses, and his character develops in the most drastic way (from the right hand of evil to its undoing.) He is also a very serious character, as are all of the characters in FF4. It has a serious storyline, more serious than most FF games (with lots of tragedy, death, etc.) and the "Chibi" approach to that is.. well.. it's

Uh, the original sprites were chibi. ':| I'm not sure what the difference is... I don't recall taking the game or characters any less seriously because of it.

Although I do agree that Cecil just looks wrong, somehow.

As I said previously, Cecil has a big head and a woman's body. Chibi or not, you are right, that is wrong.

However, it's hard to say that the FF4 original sprites were Chibi. For the size constraint, there wasn't much of an option. Maybe the fact that they lacked detail made it easier to ignore the fact that they were "Chibi", even though I don't think they would be classified that way.

They weren't chibi before, but they still had some bad-assitude to them. I dunno, like I said, I'm sure I'll buy, play, and enjoy this thoroughly since FFIV is one of my absolute favorite games ever, but I just think they could have made it a little less cute.

Im definitely not complaining. Final Fantasy IV was an excellent game, but a revamped version wouldn't be that bad. Plus, I never beat IV. Now I have a second chance to.

Man, what will square do next to make a cheap buck? Remake Parasite Eve? Or how about Ergheiz but take out all the secondary characters and replace them with models of FF7's cast? Fuck, they should just go ahead and remake Tobal no.1 and Einhander while they're at it.

I just want them to give this game a better script. I couldn't stand cecil's 3 lines of silence he had in almost every cinema or Kain's single moment of self pity. If they want to play this off to the "modern" gamers there had better be more than 10 lines of actual script.

Nah, screw that: I want a game developer specifically designed for remakes so they can actually remake games that, you know, PEOPLE HAVEN'T PLAYED IN A LONG TIME? Why should we have to suffer through Final Fantasy 4 two more times in the past 5 years when we remake quality games like Carnage Heart, Wing Commander, Colony Wars, or... Jumping Flash.

I don't get why people get so violantly angry about this. I don't know if you realize how game development works, but each game gets its own team of people, often in seperate dev studios. It's not as though they take half the Final Fantasy team to make these remakes.

I mean, gosh, if you don't want it, don't buy it.

If you really have to "suffer through" these remakes, I swear you've got some sort of complex.

Fair enough. It is stupid to get so furious about it, but we're allowed to express some distaste. It's just a shame to see another remake, especially of a rather good game, so early. There's so many other things they could have done for Final Fantasy's 20th Anniversary (which they are doing anyway, I hear). But I suppose it's also too much to ask for them to make some explosive OMG FFVII TECH DEMO-esque version. I just had higher expectations for this game, unrealistic though they may have been. C'est la vie.

Remakes are great. Better graphics, dialogue, new features, etc. If they made a remake of ANY game I've played, I'd play it. I played the original FF5, and then I played FF5 Advance. I admit, I was a little irritated that they changed Reina's name to Lenna, but I got over it. Y'know, why? Because I found out it only became Reina the first time because of a translation error. They FIXED their mistake in the remake, as well as added two new awesome job classes, plus they fixed the stats.

Remakes aren't made to rake in extra money. They're made because people loved the originals, so they make them better so we'll love them even more.

If you're going to complain about a game being remade, how about PLAYING it first before giving a biased opinion about it?
