E3: New PS3 Model and a Price Drop!

I'm not sure if this would belong in another thread, but I didnt see any threads in a quick search... so... yeah...

Big news since slightly before E3 but has been confirmed. Check out gamestop.com to see that its quite real.

The 60 gig PS3 has dropped an amazing $100 dollars and is now $500! Not only that, but they are going to be releasing (not sure of the date) an 80 gig model with a bundle deal for $600!

Now does the PS3 suddenly seem a bit more worth it?

Whatever. Discuss!

Oh, and feel free to discuss other things about E3 too. Maybe that will help make this thread cover more... or something. Eh.

Worth it? Absolutely-- but for Blue-Ray, not games.

The exclusives on PS3 really aren't worth it, but if you are a movie buff it's an incredible deal.

Well, apparently they are getting 15 new exclusives or something... not sure what they are. But MGS4 looks BEAUTIFUL. They have the first english trailer out for download on the PS Store in HD and i can tell you, it looks beautiful. Especially the fight between Raiden and Vamp.

There is also Ratchet and Clank, Devil May Cry 4, Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII. They will also be getting Eternal Sonata (but of course, after the 360), Grand Theft Auto 4, Resident Evil 5. I think they have a lovely line up in the future (of course, some will also be on the 360, but I like it when i dont have to get multiple systems for select games...). At the moment, okay, the suck when it comes to games. But hey, give it some time I say! But thats just how i feel.

I agree to a degree. But...

1. MGS4 is coming to the 360. At least, it is 98.9% likely to. If you've been following the news stories, you know the announcement is expected at E3.

2. GTA is coming to the 360

3. Devil May Cry 4 is coming to the 360

4. RE5 is coming to the 360

5. Eternal Sonata is coming to the 360.

Of course there are a few exclusives left, but 500 bucks for them? I think that it'd be more efficient to get a 360 at this point. That may change in the future, but just because the future may change for the better doesn't mean one should pay now. The price won't go up, after all. 500 bucks for Resistance, FFXIII, and Ratchet and Clank... nah...

Well, i compare it. The normal 20 gig xbox is 400. The elite is 475 or something. If you want the HDDVD to play movies, thats another 200. But then again, it has a 120 gig, twice the size of a PS3. So really, its on a scale thats hard to determine... (500 for 60 gigs and blue ray, or 475 for 120 gigs and standard DVD) all I know is, my favorite games are all coming to the PS3 (many of them, only to the PS3).

But I read when going through the stuff on gamespot, when covering E3, that they still refer to MGS4 as a PS3 exclusive game. This is the second day of E3 and MGS was already announced and been covered, as far as i know. So I dont think its going to be coming to the 360. It was almost like, never a possibility; at least, from what I've been keeping up with...

As far as MGS 4 on the 360... you heard it from me first, and we'll leave it at that.

I agree, though, that it's a tricky decision. If your favorite games are only coming on the PS3, then by all means go for it. I just figure that, right now, Blu-Ray is the most logical reason for the general market to buy one. I'm personally more inclined to buy from Sony than Microsoft, but I've held off on both-- I'm waiting to see where all this goes.

It's not going to 360. I watched the live footage and Hideo Kojima was there.

He said that it was an exclusive, and so did the sony rep (about 80 times >_>) lol

That is a very smart move King Moogle. Right now, neither of them have much (for me at least. The 360 has the most games and better ones at the moment. But none that really quite interest me... I'm not as much of a first person shooter or sports fan, which is probably why). But, I do see the games I enjoy all coming to the PS3, and the ones that look good on the 360 also coming to the PS3. So right now, its probably best for me to get the PS3. Plus I have a PSP so there is a bit more i can mess around with, haha.

But I see your logic and hey, neither are really getting any good games for a bit, so why not wait? I just like the idea that the PS3 makes my PS2 games look better, which are keeping me busy until they start releasing those games!!

And yeah, Blue-Ray is the most logical reason to get it. As they said, the blue-ray is beating the HDDVD two-to-one. Having people like Disney and Hollywood backing them, people are gonna want to get in line to get a blueray for as cheap as possible, mwahaha.

I look forward to seeing how things turn out as well. I am also just happy that sony is getting smarter. Releasing the better PS3 for a hundred dollars cheaper should REALLY please the public. I say its a smart move, hehe

The part about '80 times' is probably because they are so paranoid as it is about losing so many important exclusives! I cant believe they lost DMC4 and GTA4, thats really going to hurt them. MGS4 would probably help kill them... eeee...

King Moogle, shut up...

Kojima announced in no uncertain terms at E3 that MGS4 is, and always will be, a PS3 exclusive.

And it's not necessary to make a list of the many many exclusive AAA titles coming to the PS3 in the future. There are already a handful of excellent games out for it (Resistance, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, to name a few) and there are many to come. Hell, Super Stardust HD is practically good enough for me (PSN games kick the ass of the sun, not to mention the ass of XBL).

Sony had the best show at E3, hands down. For crying out loud, response to real Killzone 2 gameplay was OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE.

Oh, and Devil May Cry 4 and GTA 4 were never exclusives :P

Edit: Man, I made a stupid typo.

Yeah, King Moogle seems smart by waiting for it to die down, I was just to impatient so I've had each console since there launches :P

I think that if DMC4 and GTA4 had stayed PS3 exclusive (ok,technically not exclusive but they pretty much were with the amount of time between the ps2 GTA's and the Xbox GTA's and DMC didn't even appear on Xbox.), this whole console war wouldn't even exist because sony would have been steaming ahead by now. It was some bad decisions made at the top really.

Oh, thats right. Sony never nailed the ground with them. They were 'technically' exclusives, but no one ever agreed to that. If sony was smart, they would have nailed those two down, which would have REALLY helped.

Oh, and wasnt that one of the reasons that one guy got fired who was in charge? Or something? Because he wasnt getting to these games quick enough to get them exclusive? Not sure, there were different things i heard.

yes KILLZONE 2 looks amazing! that game alone is worth a ps3... but about hte price im mad...i got it 2 weeks before the price drop AGH

Look at it this way. The PS3 20GB Package got cycled out. So the cheapest PS3 is $500 (60GB) and the most expensive is $600 (80GB). So nothing really changed all that much?

Microsoft is really the one who makes it a habit of throwing money at people to secure exclusives, a practice that Sony doesn't like.

GTA could have been an exclusive, but Sony wouldn't give them the huge amounts of money they asked for. Same goes for Assassin's Creed.

I think we will see more exclusives settling into the Sony camp than we have. The player base is increasing every day. The price cut will move consoles (it's more than doubled sales, in some places boosting them to as much as 7x), the new SKU will move consoles (20 more gigs and a $60 game for 100$ more isn't really terrible), promotions will move consoles (right now, if you play your cards with, buying a PS3 nets you 5 movies and a handful of free games, as well), games like Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Ratchet and Clank, etc. etc. will move consoles... Hell, post-E3 buzz will move consoles. Using the comment's on Digg to gauge internet, as I often do, where the environment of the net was once one of "lol, Sony Sucks, 360 forever, I wouldn't buy a PS3 unless it was $199", people are now extremely positive about the future of the console. There is much less doom and gloom, and a lot of, "Well crap, now I have to buy a PS3" and "I was thinking about getting a PS3 before, but now I'm definitely going to get one."

Sony knows how to make a console succeed, and aren't about the let the PS3 fall on its ass. The value has been increasing since the day it launched, and is only speeding up.

Dont forget the big UT2k7 announcement - It's going to be a timed exclusive, but more importantly, the PS3 version is going to have a big feature the 360 won't - It allows you to use user-generated content (maps, etc.), made by people on PC. I, for one, intend to update my graphics card and just get it on PC (which is what I have done for pretty much every previous one. New UT game = new graphics card. It's like a stopwatch), but some people don't care to play it on PC, and if the popularity of the Unreal Championship games and the original XBOX that no one owned means anything, then UT2K7 will likely be a system mover.

One reason I wont buy my systems at a store like GameStop (or online), but instead places like Costco or Walmart. 90 return policy, no questions asked.

What is this mention of handful of free games??? I am aware of the five blue ray movies (none in which interest me in having) but free games interests me MUCH more! Tell me more *smile*

Ah, yes, Assassin's Creed was the other one that happend with. That is one thing I dont like about Microsoft. Just throwing money everywhere to get what they want... *sigh*

But yes, PS3 will have a handful of games, and exclusves, that I predict will dominate. But, only time will tell!

Killzone2 and MGS4 are worth $600 a piece themselves. As a HUGE fan of the MGS series, I've been waiting for that trailer all summer. That fight looked simply amazing!

The only thing with the new change in PS3 is that they will both have online mode built in. The 20GB did not have it built in. Plus the 80GB is more for downloadable content they released at E3 as well.

Seriously. I don't think it's worth it. It's not like DVD's are old news, or that we need a new format. They work perfectly, and are of great quality (generally). So I really don't see the point of buying Blu-Ray. Seems like there's no point.

And, it also lost FF XIII as an exclusive didn't it? I read somewhere on gamespot saying that it was being "discussed" or something of the like.

That was only speculation. It didnt lose FFXIII. Just recently the heads at squeenix cleared that up saying they have NOTHING planned for the 360. Only games for the PS3 and Wii. Nothing but another wild rumor.

Dont forget, just to port it over, wouldnt they have to completely remake it or something? They are still using the white engine to make it; and that only works for the PS3 as far as I recall...

And yes, we do need a new format. Have you SEEN the huge difference between DVD and Blue-ray? Or even HDDVD? There is a tremondous difference; but if you dont have an LCD you probably wont notice it. Get a blue-ray movie or game that plays at 1080p for a 42' LCD or bigger that is capable of 1080p (since, well, you wont notice the difference on the smaller ones; well, between 1080i and 1080p you wont see the diff) and you will see a TREMENDOUS difference. Come on, holywood and disney are going with it because for once they can go all the way; with that much room and that format, they can give you details like you've never seen!

EDIT: Oh, and I almost forgot. We have any NiGHTS fans out there? I am glad my friend as a Wii, cuz I want to play that game badly... i loved the original for the Sega Saturn. Cant believe they are finally making a sequal!!

Tekken 6 will be coming out for the PS3. I've liked the feel of the system, and the price is likely to go down further to make it more "down to earth" for consumers in the few coming years. But it's nice to hear that it's gone down to $500.
