Long overdue post...
The Starlite Stream
Flowing between the Starlite Worlds is a weird assortment of aimless energy. Although it appears random and unorganized to the untrained eye, the Starlite energies are actually a highway of energy transportation. According to E. Gadd, the best way to thing of the Starlite Stream is as a series of tubes. We ourselves cannot travel through the Starlite Stream, but there are ways to send information between worlds using the energy highways.
In other words, Super Mario RPG: The Starlite Worlds has the ability to generate certain types of data files that can be read on other people's computers. For instance, there will be about 25 Star Pieces to find in the game. However, you'll need 30 to buy all the items they are used for. The solution is to go online (most likely to this forum) and ask a fellow member to generate a Star Piece for you. They can it while playing the game, and then they send that file to you. You simply put the file in the "Stream" folder, play your game, and import the Star Piece. Of course, each save file has a unique ID, so you can't keep importing the same Star Piece since the game will keep track.
This seems like a trivial ability, but there are other features that benefit from this like the "My Little Minion" feature.
Further in the game, you'll encounter the "My Little Minion Shop." Essentially, it's a pet system. You buy a minion (enemy enemy that you've fought except for some bosses) and raise it by giving it items. These items raise it's stats and make it stronger. You then use the Starlite Stream system to send your pet minion to someone else's game where they can fight him. (You don't get any exp or drops, of course). You also get to name your minion. When the time comes, we'll open up a thread for people to challenge each other with minions.
For example, someone could make a post like:
Minon: Shelly
Type: Koopa Troopa
Rank: 2 (Rank is based on how much you've raised him)
Link To Download Data
or
Minion: Parapara
Type: Paragoomba
Rank: 2
HP Boost: 50
FP Boost: 10
POW Boost: 20
We plan on making for features to take advantage of interconnectivity with other games.
Tose T's Kitchen
Something that was missing from Seven Sages but was a staple in the Paper Mario series was the recipe system. I'd like to gladly announce that this problem has been rectified with Starlite Worlds. Although there's not as much fanfare for recipes and itemcrafting as there is for badges or action commands, I still think that this development is worthy enough for it's own thread.
Tase T. and Zess T. brought a fun little side mechanic to Paper Mario & PM:TTYD respectively. Granted, I never spent too much time cooking later in the games. For one, making an item simply took to long. The animation was nice the first time, but when you want to convert a batch of items it was quite annoying. Other than that, it was fun to experiment and see what items there were for you to create.
In Seven Sages, we decided it'd be too much work and too little pay off to try and make our own system. The best we could probably do in Rpg Maker 2003 would probably be a very limited "Mushroom Cooking" script, which would just focus on mixing items like Honey Syrup and Super Mushroom to get Honey Supers. Rather than do that, we just made the combinations readily available in the game.
Starlite World's Tose T. should be a welcome addition to the list of mechanics in the game. Hopefully, it'll be just as good or better than the Paper Mario system.
Features/Notes:
-Quick, streamlined system for cooking items (No obnoxious animations!)
-Start off with the ability to combine two items
-Enhance equipment by mixing them with items (Fire Flower + Shirt = Fireproof Shirt)
-Upgrade Tose T.'s efficiency with badges! (Get more items out of each cooking attempt!)
-Everytime you make a new item, it's added to a list of items you've made. You can keep record by asking Tose T. what you've made
-And more!
Advanced Badge System
The Badge System in Seven Sages was okay. In no way was it really able to copy the likes of the Paper Mario badge system. At the most it was a reference, perhaps a nod in the general direction, to the PM system, but in actuality nothing like it. In The Seven Sages, badges were a minor thing, didn't influence battle too much, and there weren't to many of them.
This time around, in what I've dubbed the Advanced Badge System, things are a lot different. Much like Paper Mario, badges will play a big role in The Starlite Worlds. All of your skills are learned from them instead of by level. There are party badges (like in Seven Sages) but also badges for each individual hero. However, the badge points needed to equip badges are shared by the whole party. Just like when you buy an equipment for Mario, you use the entire party's Gold Coins, equipping the Fire Flower Badge to Mario will use the BP stock from the party. This feature allows you to balance your characters the way you see fit. Stack Bowser with strong moves and leave the Bros. with only basic skills? Only equip badges that boost the whole party? It's up to you.
The Badge system and it's involvement in skills has made Seven Sages Suit system obsolete. This may be a step backwards in some people eyes, but it's really not. In actuality, it advances the Suit concept to an even higher level.
This time around, YOU MAKE THE SUITS. The Badge systems allows for this type of customization. For example if you want a "Fire Mario," then give him badges with fire-based attacks, badges that make fire moves stronger, and even equipment that raises his resistance to fire and lowers it ice. And there you have it, your very own Fire Mario.
Seven Sages had rigid, predetermined changes in skills/attributes which we called Suits. But badges allow for you to change things to fit your playing style. Are you a defensive player? Equip Defend Plus, Pretty Lucky, and Damage Dodge to lessen the damage of your foe's blows. Would rather go all out? Equip high damaging/high risk moves, badges like Power Plus or Charge. Again it's really up to you.
