What you did for the neck you should apply to the arms and legs.
Right now they look like just balloon limbs, no definition of muscles or anything, looking quite plain.
 
Your shading is much smoother in this latest iteration, yes.

However there's just something about it that doesn't look right. Like, it almost looks like you're trying to go for tentacles, but then they don't really look like tentacles. They halfway look like oddly-shaped spikes. Since this is an original creature, might you have a sketch or something we can ref so we know what its limbs should look like?
 
I'm not going for a tentacle look, more like what you said an oddly shaped spike. So, defining the muscles in the arm will show it more of an arm instead of a tentacle. The hand is suppose to be some sort of spike, that's what I was trying to get too. Its more of an arm with a pointy or spike-like hand.

I'll try to get a reference, but I usually think up my sprites and build upon them. They're never really built of a certain concept.
 
I like how you did the torso on the linn sprite. However the shape of its mid section on the front and back views are different sizes/shape. The front has a Y figure and the back has a hourglass figure. Also, I think you need to do some anti-aliasing on the arms so the outlines don't looks so rough.

I don't want to impose on your idea, but since you have a spike limb thing maybe you could go for an insect look. Add some joints in there and give him praying mantis arms.

I've always had a problem with the outlines being rough, usually ruins the sprite. I'll fix up the body, I just noticed that.

I'll take that idea into consideration, something different indeed.
 
Well, the Linn won't be changed much. The arms will mostly be changed to be like a mantis. Could resolve the tentacle look a like issue.

Other than that, I fixed the body figure. ^_^

I like the Urge better now. Looks like Doc Oc au naturale :P

I don't like the Shard much. It just looks really bland. And I'm guessing that light brown/white blob on its face is like, compound eyes or something, but it's REALLY hard to tell.

Even if you didn't change the Shard at all, remember that shoulders need to move when arms swing. Your palette is also REALLY lacking in color and contrast, try pushing in some blues or purples into the shades.
 
Urge- You need to relax the uppermost arms, they look so stiff as if he couldn't move them. Make them dangle like the lower arms.

Shard- Not I big problem, I'm just being annoying. In the front and back views, the end of the arms are about 3 pixels away from the ground. But then in the side view they shrink and look about 6 pixels off the ground. Not a big problem, just something I thought you missed!
 
@Venetia: I'll fix up the palette, to improve the shading. Anything to improve it.

@006: Yeah, the upper arms are like that so they don't attach with the lower. I'll try to fix it up. About the Shard's arms, thanks. I didn't notice that. XD
 
A quick update for the Shard sprite.

This is only a palette and color test. The first is the original color, the second is a bit brighter than the original. The third has more contrast, but I think its too much in my opinion.

Any suggestions? I could use some help on this matter.
 
The newer colors are definitely better, they're still not perfect but they're better. Try adding like a purple or blue in as the colors get darker or something like that to just give the palette a little more flare. One thing that's really irritating me is the sloppiness of the outline, I can see this on Linn too, they outlines just look extremely jagged or misshaped. And lastly is, like Venetia said, it's too bland, there's nothing that makes it stand out. Add something else to it to make it look really awesome.
Here's something I did up really quick, it's not perfect but the outline's are a little smoother, I re-shaded it just a bit, changed the palette just a tad and the it's got some badass tentacles coming out of it's back xD

The cool thing about this is that it's like an alien..you can pretty much do whatever you want with without people complaining about it being too unrealistic or anything. So use your imagination! Make this little monster something really awesome!
 
I don't see how he could stand up? Wouldn't the weight be enormously uncomfortable, it may even result in back pains... Maybe you should shade his head so it looks like he's standing straight or slouching... it looks strange to me...

Just one update for today, and might be the only sprite that I may complete for the contest. I completed the praying mantis arms, I also remade the head and face. The eyes look more aggressive, for a monster look. I've also tried to make a smoother outline, this looks better I guess.

Note: I only used the pale skin palette since its the most basic. I'll recolor the sprite when its completed.
