Chrono Trigger............DS

These days they make a shitty game, put Final Fantasy on the cover and it will sell millions. Even more if it's related to Sephiroth or Cloud.
If the games are shitty, then the blame goes solely to the developers. Dirge of Cerberus might have been mediocre at best, but then we have Crisis Core which rocks. Some FF ports might have been shitty, but then we have those FFIII and FFIV DS remakes which are very competent. Etc.

I seriously hope the future of Square becomes brighter, because ever since Shakaguchi and Nobuo left, it's been utter shit.
What has Sakaguchi and Nobuo have to do with anything? Last I know, it was Sakaguchi who made a really shitty movie that almost bakrupted Square. :P

I'm definitely getting this...since I never got the chance to play the SNES version. Of course if the SNES (doubt this would happen if they're putting it on the DS) version pops up on the Wii's VC then I'll ust grab that instead.

His music is some of the most popular in video game history and SAKAGUCHI CREATED FF. I dont see why you DONT think they are important.

Nobuo is now a free-lance, which means SE can hire him anytime they want. In fact, when FFXII started productions, Sakimoto had already left Square and became free-lance, and Nobuo still worked there, and they STILL put Sakimoto as the main composer. And now with FFXIII, Nobuo said he wouldn't mind to continue making future FF OSTs, and SE still only hired him to make one track.

Not that I mind, I find Masashi Hamauzu (FFXIII's composer) to be superior, and I'm glad SE thinks the same.

and SAKAGUCHI CREATED FF. I dont see why you DONT think they are important.
Yet, Sakaguchi had no involvement on FFVIII nor FFX, and his input on FFVI, FFVII and FFIX was not that big. The big directors and producters behind most of the latest FFs still work at SE, and still make FFs. FFXIII's producter (and also one of it's writers), for example, is Yoshinori Kitase, the director of FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII and producter of FFX. He's also the one who wrote the FFVI's story, and had contributed a lot to the stories of VII, VIII and X. It's not because the original creator, which hardly had any involvement in the latest titles, is out, that the series will start to go downhill.

EDIT: Anyways, this is getting a bit off-topic.

Fuck yes! CT! Oh yes! I just hope we get a CC remake or something soon, too! CT and CC portable would make me die of joy.

And yes, I'm sure it will be in 3D. I mean, DS. Come on? Why port.

Although... the release is a bit... early...

Ports are made for convienience, dude.
Obviously there are emulated versions of them, thats a no-brainer.

Yeah... CTDS is going to be a ripoff. I mean, they could atleast improve graphics and sound. They have kazillion possibilities with the DS, and they aren't using them! What the hell, Square!

Likely they're just scared to do too much to the game. FFIV, for example (while I think it's amazing) had a lot of room for improvement (graphics, translation), and the last couple remakes didn't add much. Taking a game like Chrono Trigger, however, is a different story. Outside of the graphics, there isn't much that could be done to that game. More mini-games? More sidequests? I don't even think the new dungeon idea will go over all that well.

The catch 22, I think, is that the fanboys scream for a remake, and would likely scream when it isn't the same game.

This topic is meant to be about CTDS. Come on guys. :[

I think there will be improved graphics, along the lines of FFIVA, just improved pallete and maybe altered tiles here and there.

On the not so good side, the new dungeon? Probably Singing Mountain. This means they can be lazy and just have to connect the maps and add enemies.

Bah who am I kidding I want this game no matter how much of a direct port this is, simply so I can own the game legally. :B

at this point in time, Square-Enix stopped caring if they make good games or not, it's just about the money.

These days they make a shitty game, put Final Fantasy on the cover and it will sell millions. Even more if it's related to Sephiroth or Cloud.

They're becoming money whores, and Tetsuya is giving them what they want: more FF7 plot to keep the sales up and shit, without even caring how much f'd up the story is.

I seriously hope the future of Square becomes brighter, because ever since Shakaguchi and Nobuo left, it's been utter shit.

dude amen.  they're not even fucking turn based anymore.  isn't that the whole point?  I haven't played one squeenix game i absolutely loved.

Its nice to see that Chrono Trigger (THE greatest game ever) isn't dead completely, too bad it will be after square-enix "re-releases" it for the DS. Chances are the "new" dungeon and DS capabilities will only ruin the game and send yet another great series off to the graveyard (Mother, Secret of Mana, Final fantasy 1, the other 1, and yet the other other 1 on PSP, etc.) Sadly it seems that the majority of modern companies are far too concerned with lining thier already bloated pockets rather than the quality of thier products...

P.S.
Alas, what could have been: http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/

Well, I love CT.. ON SNES.

I mean come on, I'd love to see SE crapping their pants when noone buys this port.
First of all, why would we like to buy a game, that was as best at its original system, that they can't do anything to improve? I beleive the only thing they can make out of this is to destroy the game with some babycoloured interfaces (As most new game have.) and maybe some new sprites/textures and some new sounds. Maybe a piece of land to explore, to make people masturbate even more to this.

Secondly, if it now only is going to be a port with the same stuff as original, why not get it to the original console, and get some nostagly feeling aswell, at the same time? I'd think thats cooler, much cooler in fact.

Well the only reason would then probably be that it is hard to get one in some places, i beleive.

Hard to get in some places?  It's damn near impossible to get in most places.  Pretty much the only way to find it is online at $60-80USD for just the cartridge.  A good complete copy cost around $150-200USD.  I should know, I just got one for $130 and change a month ago or so.  Not to mention sealed copies are worth 600 dollars.

By releasing this, even if it is just a port, squenix is allowing a whole new generation to appreciate it without spoending a shitload of money or doing something illegal.  At most, this new version will be $40USD, though it should be much less because you can still get sealed copies of the PSX version for under 20.
