An alleged scan from Jump magazine popped up in the Japanese message board 2ch, showing the groundbreaking announcement that Chrono Trigger is getting an "enhanced remake" for the DS this Winter. Here is the scan:

Chrono Trigger is considered by many one of the greatest RPGs ever created and a DS version was on many fans' whish lists, could Square-Enix finally answered their prayers?

They're probably just going to update the graphics a little and give it some pretty cutscenes.  Still, nice to see them doing SOMETHING with the Chrono series.

"enhanced remake" was the words they used for FFIII/IV DS, I think, so I suppose it will be 3D.

They could be waiting for the right time to announce, just like with D3. They must've already been working on it, and maybe waiting for the right time to announce, since FF4 is out for a while in Japan.

It's about time Square Enix. Finally! I rather was hoping Chrono Trigger on the wii.
But still, A remake of Chrono Trigger! I so happy from just hearing of this!

It just depends. Imo Square sucks at making their ports consistent. If this copy is all blocky 3D like FF3 and 4 DS, then im just going to ignore it.

^which is why I think it should be on PSP (plus wasnt the chrono series pushed into sony's waters? i dunno)

This finally proves square had a good reason for giving C&Ds to the CTR and CTRP teams.  Hopefully the "new" dungeon will be Singing Mountain, but either way I can't wait.  I personally believe they kind of ruined FFIII by making it "3D" since it didn't look too good, so it's good that the awesome art will preserved.  I am definately getting this when it comes out.

Yep and it would be better on the PSP because of the better graphics (and much shorter loading times)
IDK, I just think on the DS that they'll try to use the second screen and ultimately do something that ruins the game (for people that have played it before anyway >_>)

I bet it will probably just be the map and menu screens, as Square will be too lazy to implement anything innovative at this point with their ports.

In all honesty, I love CT but would rather see Cross ported, even if it looks exactly the same.

Or maybe it means something to them. Why a port of Chrono Trigger and not another game that sold as well (which are yet to receive a port)? It's not part of a compilation, neither, like FFT was (and that was the only excuse for why FFT was ported). It's not even a FF, which is pretty much the only games Square was spamming ports of (and making good quality remakes as well, may I say). And one of the biggest reasons given for the lack of continuity of chrono games was that the developers weren't interested on it anymore.

Maybe they are finally interested in making another chrono game again, but are unsure if it would still sell well. Maybe this port, which came from nowhere, is a "test".

I think they don't want to break the gameplay/essence of the game. Compare it to all those people who said they would really buy FFVII for PS3 even it just had better graphics. I dunno. Looks like it will be basically the same, but I just read on IGN that there will be a wireless play mode. Lemme get the link.
