Black and White

its purely aesthetic so like its really not a big deal
plus anyways i would get white because then we can trade with eachother all day~

there have never been any real gameplay differences between versions of the same set (i.e. red/blue, gold/silver, ruby/saphire, etc.), except that the third has always been "special" (yellow had only pikachu as the starter, and he followed you around, crystal had a garuantee to getting suicune and the battle tower, etc.). The biggest differences are the availability of certain pokemon, forcing you to trade with paople weho have the other version in order to cath 'em all.

That said, i will get black or white eventually, however, i have barely gotten through soulsilver, and i often find the battle system tedious because of the times it takes for things to happen. even when messages and battle messages are set to fast.

yes and no. traditionally you can, but only if you have none of the new pokemon that were not available in the older generation of games. also, the ds games can only trade with the other ds and gba games, while the gba can trade with all versions past and present, and the gb/gbc can only trasde with each other, the n64 stadium games, and the gba games. by using a long drawn out proccess, you can transfer your party from red all the way to white.

The differences between the two are low, but the big different thing

the Black City / White Forest

are different enough to make it worth deciding. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, it's not made clear what the difference is from the box so unless you looked it up online first, it's not that different.

Guys, first pokemon game ever: should I buy black or white?

I've played them before just not extensively, and borrowing other people's gba for a sec or in virtualboy which sucked.

Buy a gameboy color + pokemon yellow or pokemon silver

I don't think I'll be buying b/w. Me and my friend i used to play pokemon games with are both not really into pokemon anymore. I don't really like all the new pokemon, and I don't think it's worth the ~€40 for me.
Maybe I'll pick up a secondhand version later on, but i won't buy it anytime soon.

Your loss :< This is supposed to be the biggest pokemon game to date. The new pokemon make the franchise seem new and interesting to even the old schoolest of fans, and there is plenty of endgame to keep the player coming back from more. (it came out in japan 5-6 months ago and people are still raving about it...)

Also you aren't paying for the pokemon only, you are paying for the game. While all the core pokemon games follow a similar format, there is always something new or interesting about them that makes it worth playing through the game start to finish.

Also I am having a lot of fun with Pokemon Black.
