Avatars

honestly i can't make it out. you've said it's a post-apocalyptic city or something. to me it looks like a blotchy grey cube. i have a very hard time distinguishing between greys, blues, and purples.

Well, yeah. It is rather shrunken. And I do agree it is dry. And for some reason, I tend not to assume anyone is any gender unless what they say leads me to some kind of conclusion.
Anyway, here's a copy of the original image for my avatar, since you can't see it, ven.

What?
I think of people being their avatars.
For example Wyatt is a redhead, Jbrist is a priest on weed, Arbie is a monster and Venetia is some cute little girl who'll stab you first chance she gets.
Isn't that how all you see them?

On a more serious note I do identify first and foremost identify users by their avatar.
Only if they don't have an avatar or have changed their avatar do I look at their user name.
I don't really associate them with actual people, but rather as their online persona.
You may be roleplaying, but I don't mind that and will just assume you are the person you are roleplaying. :cute:

As for gender I initially connect it to the avatar. For example, vennie is a girl and arbie is a guy.
This is of course only until I get more knowledge. (Wyatt is a hermaphrodite)

*hugs*

Yeah, avatars may give a user a friendly/playful/serious/nooby appearance. In real life, people go by the other person's looks, which isn't much different.

While that probably wasn'T meant 100% serious, I can somewhat apply that to myself... I found myself astonished when Yeyinde told me he had pictures of him up, and instead of seeing a Predator, I saw a not-so-fighter-ish dude... that only happens with some people though, for example - obviously - I wouldn't expect Glitch to be a city :x

In general, I link the avatar's assumed personality to the person's personality, though - if appliceable, aka if it's a person. After all, that seems to be the idea behind an avatar to me, no? Reflecting oneself.
That's also a reason why I find the Laughing Man disguise (my avatar, for those who didn'T see GITS) so well-fitting as an avatar for myself... it's message is "I'm showing you all my personality, me being a friendly guy", while truthfully, it says "I'm hiding my personality".

Of course, at least regarding the latter, my old avatar had the same message... I wonder if that appears neutral or idiotic :p

Typically, I see people by their signatures, except the moderators, because they post all the time and have eye-candy avatars. But other than that I do have in my head who you all are (e.g. JBrist, you seem like the guy who stares at you for a while as you talk and interrupts with "Can I have your pocket?" or (I'm assuming the santa-dog is "Arbi"?) I see you as the guy who seems intimidating but is really just blunt.)

I tend to see peoples avatars and make first judgements but put them aside till I get to know them better, I dunno, can't really help it.

I get a sense of the person's attitude or what he really enjoys from his avatar. I could be wrong about this, but from Atlet's avatar (and his/her signature :P) I can sense that he (or she ^_^;;) pretends to be someone who isn't really acting seriously, but is actually quite serious on the inside. On the contrary though, I mainly get my impression from the individual by how he writes; the avatar will further, or disprove my hypothesis. (Sorry for singling you out Atlet. =P)

I would come across some of your posts and I can tell that you are well educated based on your diction and syntax (well sometimes it pops up occasionally ;] ). In a way, you are like the Jester from Shakespeare's Tempest; someone who has very deep insights and wisdom, but cannot be taken seriously because of his Jester's attire. I think that people would discover distinct similarities if someone were to juxtapose you and the jester together.
...
Lol, sorry about that, I have a very bad habit of over-analyzing stuff and going off on tangents(After being in AP Literature and Language/Composition, the analytical mindset rubs off. :P).
Anyway, thanks for the kudos Atlet. :)

Np. I tend to do that too and over-analyze things. Hell, when I first started here I thought Wyatt was a 40 year old man and lumi was a girl D:

So, I looked back on their posting histories and gained some insight on what their vernaculars, which made me feel dumb :x

(I also thought miek was like 30 :X)

just goes to show you should never trust your people's avatars at first!

Haha...
Yeah, agreed. I really think that you can tell a bunch from a forum member by how they write. In short, it says a bunch. :P
On a random, very random note, who exactly are those people in your signature? Touhou girls? :P
