Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.
Raising your combat level is done by spending EXP training "classes", which are levelable and provide you with new skills, more HP, more MP, or access to new areas.
Necro is associated with death, and so Necromancy is often in video games and fantasy depicted as being "Death Magic" or something similar. The -mancy bit on the end therefore is often added to other things in games, such as Infernomancer (Fire Mage), or Guerromancer (Battle Mage). Guerromancer I made up myself, but the others are used a lot in games.
I'll add something about classes, though I'm sure I added that, under the battle system info bit...
I thought -mancy meant anything to do by magic, such as magic in the school of death, blood, or earth (with would be guerr-) (my bad, it would be terra-)
Oh, good. RMXP/VX costs $60, and it's not like we should pay twice for something made in the same... nevermind.
Also, you were right on Guerre's definition. Wait, that was redundant... if you're reading this, then you have internet access, and can just hop on over to Dictionary.com...
IMO it's a bit stupid to have more than 1 class with a name ending with mancer, especially Guerromancer. (BTW Guerrero also means Warrior in spanish.)
Why not Warrior, Knight, Soldier, Footman, Barbarian, Swordman, etc?
Also does the healer only heal or can he do damage too?
Of course a healer can fight for himself, just not very well. And besides, those classes you named aren't Battle Mages (or even mages at all). A closer synonym would be Black Mage/Red Mage... (Wyatt, correct me if I'm wrong)
If you don't know what it is, then you can't give it C&C. That's like saying "I hate the Audi TT" without knowing it's actually a car...
There is a classes part on the first post now. I might flesh it out a bit, with pics or something too maybe, and info on where the trainers are for each class. I also need to post up the EXP table for raising classes I guess.
I think it works out, I kind of like the way they're named.
The three different types of mages; Death, fire, and battle, also fit very well with the general "Vengeance" feel. That's one thing I really like about this game, you've got a good atmosphere going on.
The game seems to be getting interesting, reading everything that's going to be in it. Who knows, I may check out the trial, and if I really enjoy it, might pay a small sum of money for it. Like I said, who knows. =P
The desert map in the next version will have several new systems in it.
Desert Heat
I made this a while ago but never added it into a released game. As you walk, your water supply will drain, if you are in a hot desert. If it reaches 0, it starts draining your HP instead. You can refill your water by cutting open a cactus, or filling your water supply from a well or oasis.
Quicksand
It's difficult to notice, but if you see the ground moving don't step, or you'll lose a percentage of your HP. You can't die from this but obviously it makes you easier to kill for your enemies.
EvE
I hope to get Enemy vs. Enemy combat up and running. It's a part of Neo SBABS but something is making it... not work.
There is also a lengthy quest with several puzzles and enemies to fight, and well... lots of enemies.
I may leave releasing this version until:
a, Autosave
b, Server-side saving
c, Visual Equipment
d, Auto-updating
...are ready. That way the game can actually be taken out of Beta, and enter Omega. Heh.
In other words, still an early form of the game, but actually the full game (so all characters kept and everything).
But, that time will give me some time to work on quests, areas, and general game-balancing, before the release.
Visual Equipment is pretty easy, I know how to do it I'm just putting it off until we can move to the other server as I don't want to have to code it all again.
Oh and I feel like re-scripting some of the community scripts I've used so that I can take a few names off the credits list, and tailor the scripts to my own needs. Not that I don't like the other scripts; it's just I'd feel happier if they were my own (and if Vengeance does go commercial then it's less people to plead with :P)
Wyatt, how do you get the game in order to play?
I went to the Vengeance site and click on the Download Client...nothing Happened.
The Game looks real great for an MMO RPG Maker Game.
