From the ashes of the great explosion the continent of Adlesia was formed. Great mountains rose from her surface, vast seas surrounded her land, forests grew from her soil and deep valleys sunk into her earth.

After many millennia small animals crawled from the ocean and inhabited her land. They thrived in the lush environment, enjoying Adlesia’s comforts.

Centuries later a race known as the elves arrived from their war stricken land. They came from the heavens colonising the eastern forests of Adlesia.

Two millenniums after the elves entered Adlesia the dwarf appeared. They decided to dwell in the western mountains many leagues away from the elves.

Then the humans came. The humans were a greedy race, they sought power. They needed wood for their villages and hacked their way through the outskirts of the elves’ woods. The elves kept their peace, for the woods were vast and they did not need that space. This was the case for nearly a year until one dark day a young human accidently went to deep into the forest. There he gazed upon an elf named Illeria. So beautiful she was that the man was enchanted. Scared of her beauty he took out his knife and killed her. Horrified at what he had done he took her knife and drove it through his heart.

The elves, enraged at her death fought a bloody war with the humans. Scared of the elves strength and prowess in battle, the humans fled to the coast. There they hid in refuge from the elven rage.

But they were not safe. The elves pursed them. And so the bloody war continued.

The elves charged destroying the human capital Cledrael. The humans fought back brutally devastating the elves rank.

The war got became so ferocious that the dwarves were no longer able to sit in peace as the future of their continent lay on the brink of destruction. They joined the fray, fighting for themselves and their country.

After five long years of war, a young human - then known as Owyn – stood up demanding peace. A treaty was signed between the humans, dwarfs and elves that no more blood would be shed.

Owyn was crowned king and so a new age of peace began.

Half a century after the Bloody war and the empire is at long last beginning to rebuild itself. The grieving is finally coming to and end.

In the highlands of northern Adlesia, in the foothills of the D’arav Range, lies the town of Kelderin.

Kelderin is a small town with few villagers yet they all are working together to rebuild the town. It was long ago devastated during an elven raid.

It is Frondil, the month of harvest and much work is to be done in Kelderin. A young man, by the name of *Edrin is working hard to rebuild the village. He is sixteen years old, in his first year of manhood.

Edrin’s family came to Kelderin as to take refuge from the elves. There they hid while Idra gave birth to Edrin. But alas misfortune struck Idra and her husband Everdor. While defending Idra and her newborn child Edrin, from the elven raid, Everdor was killed.

Sixteen years later and the village is still in ruins from the raid. Edrin knows little of his father other than his name and that his body was never found.

*The player has the option of changing Edrin's name

chapteri.png

It is Edrin 16th birthday and a ceremony is being held in acknowledgement of his coming of man.

After the Festivities a village fire is lit. The villagers gather round it and listen to Elder Gannet speak of Adlesia’s history. Then another elder, this time Elder Umaar, tells the villages past and how the elven raids left them stricken and poor.

When the ceremony is over Edrin goes home to find his mother, Idra, crying for his father, Everdor. She then explains to Edrin how he was killed in the elven raid.

That night Edrin dreams of his father and heritage.

chapterii.png

Now that Edrin is a man he must help in the reconstruction of the village. He is sent on many quests learning the ways of the world and learning vital information about Adlesia.

After a whole day of hard work he is exhausted and goes off to bed.

The following morning he is sent to collect wood from Faedelm Forest. Unbeknown to him he is being watched closely.

As he walks into a clearing he is ambushed by three Goblins. Edrin is petrified. A rush of adrenaline flows through Edrin, from heart to fingertip. He holds out both his arms. ‘Gutträl Evoke ay Gyffwan’, his mouth moves, but a voice comes out different from his own.

Before him forms a Griffon. It roars and the Goblins scamper. Feeling weak and dizzy he falls to his knees. The adrenaline has gone leaving him exhausted.

From out of the shadows of the trees appears an Elder Gannet.
‘We best get you back to the village’.

It is at that point that Edrin blacks out.

chapteriiibittersweetes.png

Waking up to the sound of voices Edrin finds himself in the middle of an unfamiliar room. He is in the house of Elder Gannet.

Gannet brings in some food and explains the mechanics behind the art of summoning to Edrin. He tells Edrin all about how Spirit Singers – also known to humans as Summoners - were thought to be nonexistent after the Bloody War.

As far as Gannet knows Edrin may be the last Spirit Singer.

When Edrin asks how Gannet knows all this, Gannet explains that he was there when Spirit Singers where plenty in the races in Adlesia. Gannet then declares Edrin healthy and sends him home.

The next day the King’s soldiers appear in Kelderin looking for a boy of about 16. They say the king wishes to meet him. Edrin runs to Gannet’s hut, unable to say goodbye to his mother. There Gannet tells Edrin that it is unwise to meet the King at the present moment.

Gannet doubts the king would want Edrin for anything other than personal desire.

So leaving a note for Idra, Edrin and Gannet escape Kelderin in search of safety from the King’s men

It is inevitable that Edrin will need to know how to control summoning as he will face many dangers to come.

Humans
Humans are the most abundant race in Adlesia. They arrived in the third age after both the dwarfs and elves. They make use of what they have and rush through life. They also have the shortest lifespan out of the races.

Attributes:
Humans have some of the best minds in Adlesia. They invented the wheel, which is one of the most useful human inventions. Humans are persistent and very resourceful.

Humans are very greedy, they long for power and money over all else. This makes them a very big problem in Adlesia. It was the humans who started the Bloody War. On the other hand they ended it.

Not many humans can use magic though herbalists are found commonly through the race. To humans herbalists are called healers. Those that can use magic are usually of evil character. Examples are sorcerers, unholy summoners and dark mages.

Humans play a very large part in Adlesia’s history. It is inevitable they will play a major part in its future as well.

Elves
Elves are best known for being the fairest race. They are graceful and flawless in appearance. Long slender bodies and fragile looking faces make them attractive to most living creatures. But their looks are deceiving. Under their veil of beauty lies terrible power.

Attributes:
Elves are agile and quick. They are not matched in speed and style on the battlefield.

Not only are elves strong in battle but cunning. They are very solitary and keep many secrets. Humans and dwarfs know very little about the elves.

The elves seek knowledge and beauty above all else. This is often where many of the elves mistakes lie.

Elves speak in a tongue different to both humans and dwarfs though many of the humans cities are named after elven words.

Magic is one of the elves huge advantages. They are masters of it yet they choose to rarely use it. Only when terribly needed do they use magic.

Elves are not an immortal race as many legends say. True, they live far longer than any human but have far weaker skin.

After the Bloody War not many elves remain in Adlesia. Those that do will do all they can to survive. We can be sure they will play their role in Adlesia's future.

Thanks for reading. Post your comments on the story so far.

your story is interesting, even though it is a huge cliché. i like the way you told about the creation of Adlesia.
you should probably find another name than summoning, as summoning is a very boring and overused name.
find some Latin word or something :)
I just wonder, the elves used this summoning magic right? but isn't Edrin human? is summoning magic something that all races can use then? and also, is summoning an ability received in birth or something you learn from studying? it gotta be congenital sinse Edrin probably didn't know that he could do these things. but also it gotta be something you learn sinse the elves took advantage of it in that way.
also, what kind of graphics are you going to use, i want some screenshots.

Hey, welcome to the site and thanks for making a great first post :girl:

While cliched sure, I don't think that's a bad thing, if anything it could make a project better heh.

I like the sound of a war between elves and humans. The whole elf vs human thing has been done a lot but normally the elves end up in seclusion and never set foot in the world. They're normally portrayed as more technologically or magically advanced as the humans they dislike so much - it would be cool to see the fight it out against one another!

One small detail I would like to know, how is summoning going to work? I see you're using an ABS. (Sorry if I missed something from your post). Will it be a FF10 type deal where all characters disappear and are replaced with a more powerful thing, will it just appear and make a big mess (FF7), or will it just appear as an extra character?

Thanks a heap for the replies.

Ahh, Valdred. I've already though of that. I made a brainstorm about different names before I started writing the story. Here are some...

Summoner Names
Spirit Walker/Dream Walker - Caller - Evoker - Sarviön - holymoon - Dramier - Ughtgal - awakener - spell singer

Some were taken of other games (Final Fantasy, Rappelz)

Unholy Summoners (Use Summons for Evil Means)
Dark Summoner - Shadow Walker - Sireria - Indifel - Græm - Frughut -Carilya - Scorkya

And Summons can be called Dæmons, Summons, Spirits, Familiars, Pets, Beasts

As for your question about summoning. That will evolve during the story. As a preview it is very rare among humans and few elve chose to use it. As I said more info will come into the game.

I have though about graphics but haven't started making game so screenshots will take a while. I will put concepts up though. I will use weapon sprites for Blizz ABS. I will try make some custom tiles too. There will be a large world map. There are more ideas but will have to wait. As you can understand this will take time.

Cliche it does sound. That is because it is high fantasy. What I don't want though is happy little elves and axe crazy dwarfs. I will try make it a much darker fantasy.

O.K. Eventually though not in the first story Edrin will find the elves. They will be very wary. I don't want to give away too much but a fight may break out. They are slow to forget the elves and the humans hurt them. They aren't immortal but posses great strength. They are outnumbered by the humans which will make it even.

O.k summoning. There are three types of magic. Each uses energy (like mana)

Grey, white and black

White - Restorative/ Defensive Magic - Low Energy usage.
Black - Offensive Magic - Medium Energy Usage
Grey - Summon Magic - High Energy Usage.

You will get a summon to call a Dæmon after boss battles. They will add one temporary member to the party - uses Blizz ABS. The amount of time depends on Summoning Level/ Magic (havent decided). Though they will leave you weakened summoning a dragon greatly improves chances of winning battles. They will act just llike a player.

Thanks for the posts.

Certainly an interesting fantasy world. I like how much effort you've put into fleshing it out. I disagree with another poster in that it is heavily cliche. Although I do recognize some cliches, it isn't as bad as I've seen elsewhere. I believe these cliches are:

1. A young main character who somehow has destiny, fate, or a prophecy thrust upon him. He is often of humble origins, but he still manages to somehow save the world or become heavily influence it.
2. Elves love the forest and take great offense of it's destruction. Elves are proud and usually technologically, socially, and intellectually more advance than other races.
3. Dwarves dislike magic and are excellent blacksmithes. They are particularly fond of their axes.
4. The village of the main character or his parents was destroyed, often having the main character's parents killed in the process.
5. The Elder who is very wise and most often never wrong.
6. x number of crystals or other magical relics/artifacts :)

Not saying you should change anything, but those are the cliches I recognized. Nothing wrong with using cliches so long as you disguise it under layers of your own creativity. Anyway, a suggestion is to give Edrin some character and personality, because it doesn't seem you've written it in this thread yet.

Thanks for the reply. Through the dark story I will try add small humorous details. E.G. Edrin loves raspberries. Every so often he will crave one or ask for one. Also as for the clichés, I completely agree with you. I'm pondering actually including the Crystals. Also the dwarfs are very noble and I will include some mages upon them. Also they aren't short, just sturdy. Also they don't need so many beards, the do have axes to shave with.

Elves will be far darker than normal. Also the forest won't be all mystical. Just sort of creepy, and no they wont live in trees.

As for humans, well no idea how to uncliche them .

I'll develop more ideas. As for the death of parents. Idra, the mother, never actually mentions the fathers dead. Edrin knows literally nothing about him but was never seen after the raid. Can't say more, sorry for the spoiler.

The Elder's are wrong in the first Chapter, you'll find out in the third. Well actually one is right one is wrong but in a different way then you'd first think, but yes, they are clichéd old wise humans.

Also dwarves chose not to use magic but they are just as powerful as elves or humans.

And finally no fate was set upon Edrin. He chooses the course of his own destiny. Just because he can summon doesn't mean he has to show he can use it, he just does for the greater good.

Phew... I completely agree on all that you say and thoroughly appreciate your post. As the story develops i'll try and add less clichés and make it more... original.

Looks interesting though you have buggerd yourself as you have said that dwarves hate magic in your first post but in a later one you are saying that there are dwarven mages. Now lets see just how you can do that without it being to cliche. But any way good concept, good story, good idea. Just plain good. well good luck. by the way what maker are you using?

Thanks for the post. At the moment i'm in the process of rewriting the storyline - trying to uncliche it . Also as for the dwarf mages. I've decided they don't hate magic. Just love logic. Also they have few mages as many chose not to take that path.

Thanks valdred, appreciate the response. Sorry i haven't updated for a while. I've been really busy with piano, school and swimming. Once I've rewritten a chunk of the story I'll edit original post.

 Thank you all!

UPDATE

Hooray, background story has undergone some minor changes regarding the war. The main storyline has also undergone some minor changes. I'm also having second thoughts as to whether or not summoning should be such a huge part. I could make a summoning class but leave it equal with all others, sort of like FF. That's what I'm getting at at the moment.

To Come:
  • Race Biographies
  • What is Summoning?

UPDATE

Race profiles for humans and elves done! I'll be quite busy in the next week with school.

To Come:
  • Dwarf Profile
  • Character Biographies - Gannet & Elderon
  • Chapter 3

Keep up the replies!

Thanks Again

UPDATE

Hooray! Chapter III is complete! So the story continues. That's it for now with chapters. I'll continue after making them in RMXP. Now the arduous task of writing out the screenplay.

To Come:

* Dwarf Profile
* Character Biographies - Gannet & Elderon
* Screenplay
