A Great Year for Nintendo

If you don't like it don't buy it, theres no need to go absolutely nuts raving about it!
Its not like it was sold to you on false pretenses, i thought it was very clear what it was before hand, more light fun with hopefully a smattering of serious but very good games. Unlike it seems lots of people, i have better things to spend my money on then getting every new game thats released, so consoles like the Wii and GC which have only great games, are good for me because those games are REALLY great!
The comment about N64 textures is just absurd and just lessens your argument because its obviously wrong.

If its not an enclosed space friendly machine, tough; you can't say that you didn't know that when you bought it.

And as for Nintendo spitting in the eye of people who want to play serious games, what a load of crap! So a manufacturer isn't allowed to make a console aimed at more casual games without it being an insult? Do you feel so strongly that you want to play serious games and you want to play them on a Nintendo console and not another?

If you dislike it so much then sell it while there is a high demand for them! :)

Do you feel the need to constantly go into topics and say that 'if you don't like it then just shut up'? Because I've seen it a couple times from you now and it's kind of annoying! Using that logic, nothing would ever get better blablabla, if this topic is allowed to exist, doing nothing but praising nintendo, then equally negative feedback on the topic is just bloody fine.

Also it's 'spitting in the eye of people who want to play serious games' because there are no 'serious games' for it. Seriously, what is there? What is there that's not just geared towards children, a remake (that looks worse) of an older game, or something that's just god awful?

The comment about N64 textures is just absurd and just lessens your argument because its obviously wrong.

hyperbole. (I thought this might be a little hard to grasp so I'll extend it for people that don't understand what I'm getting at here: look up the word hyperbole)

Unlike it seems lots of people, i have better things to spend my money on then getting every new game thats released, so consoles like the Wii and GC which have only great games, are good for me because those games are REALLY great!

Yes, there are only incredibly good games on any nintendo system ever, nothing bad has ever happened. Ever. Ever damnit.

The fact that the only real good quality games for nintendo systems are nintendo 1st party games makes it seem... less appealing, considering nintendo games are pretty much exclusively 'not serious'. (see mario)

The comment about the controls for fighting games, you flip the remote on it's side, horizontally and it works that way. The COntroll Oad is normal, the A Button and the B Button is like the Z Trigger on the N64, wierd at first, but you can get accustomed to it. I just don't know really about the 1 $ 2 buttons. That's a stretch.

What I really think some of you Wii Bashers did was Totally put a high precedent for the Wii, it has motion control, and customizable little characters and so far, the most gameplay innovation ever created and you are really getting worked up over the graphics not being all that great and the sound on the remote control? Now, the demand in games, I understand, but hey, it's Nintendo, they don't really make very Serious-based games that much, and when they do, it's usually later into the existence of the console.

No, the Wii Games aren't going to be as Mouth-dropping as Assassin's Creed or Final Fantasy XIII, but they are amazing for the system they are customized for. The controls are very forgiving, also, check up on the Super Smash Bros. Dojo site, there are about three or four different ways to utilize the controller.

There are some points I do agree on, like why are the controllers so expensive to have to replace the batteries non-stop and it not have a charger(unless it does and I don't know about it)?

Wow. It's nice to see this topic, and be able to see two different sides in the thread.

Unfortunately, I'm on the side against the OP. See,

I am fan of Nintendo, I have almost every system, but they don't care about that at all. They instead, want your grandma, and your child molester uncle to play their console.

So they make crappy gimmicky games that are really fun for those people, but lack any depth or skill so that they can feel accomplishment.

Last console war, Nintendo fan boys would say "I got Gamecube because I want to play GAMES! Not listen to movies or DVDs, GAMES"

This time around, Playstation/X-Box fans can turn that around. "I want to play GAMES".

Every game out there for Wii (excluding 1st party titles) are available on another console, and truth be told, its better. Better graphics, on either other system, and better controls on any other system.

Sure the "Wii-mote" is fun, but its never actually executed properly. Each title is just a port of a 360/Playstation game with Wii controls tacked on which does nothing but complicate the game further.

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, one of my favorite games, with the Gamecube controller. The fact is, I bought it thinking, oh I can perform KAMEHAMEHA and SPIRIT BOMB, but instead I jab the remote like a cattle prod, and wave the nunchuku a little. And even worse, when you actually do do the movements, it doesn't respond, or it triggers a different move altogether.

Don't even get me started on Friend Codes and Nintendos apparent hate for open online multi-player. I can see the Japanese man walking in and saying "Hey! Let's exchange social security numbers!" then someone else saying "HEY! That's a great idea! But wait! Let's make it longer! Oh! And let's make it as complicated as possible... AND we have to protect kids from said, child molester uncles online, so let's ban people sharing their Wii Codes on our OWN official site!"

Don't get me wrong, I still like the Wii, and its apparently winning around the globe with "casual gamers" everywhere.

I hope that Wii is just an introduction to getting the adults into gaming, and then they bust out the Wii 2 super mega ultra deluxe gaming machine.

I still use my Wii occasionally, its fun for a while, and thats what its meant for, the PC is supplying me with gaming and online MMORPGs for now. Next generation, I will definitely be waiting to see how things are going before I buy another Nintendo console.

EDIT: And just to add, to the person who hates the wii speaker, I do too. You can turn if off, or lower it in the "Wii-Mote" options thing. ^_^

As a Wii owner, I agree with the "bashers" (in quotes because they are only stating their opinion, which is something really dumb to get mad about), but I agree with lorddonk's statement of hoping the first wave of games is to bring in the new crowd, and hopefully they will smarten up, and release some real games. You also have to remember that many developers weren't expecting Wii to sell so well, so they ported their games to it just to see how well it would fare. Now that Wii has proved itself, I think they will begin to release some worthwile games, as I have noted in a previous post of mine.

EDIT: I hate friend codes. They suck. And Nintendo should release a damn Bluetooth headset for Wii.

It's just a matter of opinion. You are presenting the Wii in your opinion as a great console, that Nintendo made. Maybe your a Nintendo fan, or maybe you just like the console. Nintendo may be doing well but I always like Sony for my gaming needs. I haven't tried the Wii, and I may never try it. I am more accustomed to Sonys Playstation system. That doesn't mean I wouldn't give it a try. But just from the look of it, it may seem like a hassle. But their is no reason to argue about the whole thing. Eventually they may come out with a console that plays every game from Xbox to gamecube, and everything in between and it would smoke all other systems.

I just got my Wii; boyfriend and I traded in a whole crap load of movies and games and then went fifty fifty on it. We couldn't afford any games, but we've been entertaining ourselves just with Wii Sports. He had come over today to make progress on Shaolin Monks, but we ended up playing that for a good five hours. @_@;

Anyway, my point is that if a cheap with-the-system game can keep us entertained for a good part of the day, I look forward to what Nintendo may shove at us in the future. Huzzah~

Just for clarification, I wasn't angry nor arguing. I used the word basher to compare the Wii graphics to N64 graphics as the same and to have an excess amount of swearing in a post. I wasn't tense on anything. I'm not really a Nintendo fan, but I do enjoy their consoles, I really do like the Wii, but my loyalty is with Sony, due to Sony being Square-Enix's main game port. XD But Nintendo has kept me occupied as well and I enjoy the new approach to gaming it brought.

I do say that many developers are making Wii SPort/Wii Play-esque games, those are the only things that bother me, but the new DDR, de Blob, Final Fantasy: CB, Soulcalibur, these games are what are going to really bring the Wii on top and probably unleash even better games. I mean, who doesn't like the Soul Series?

I'm pretty sure nobody doesn't, but considering the actual series is going to be on the other two consoles rather than the wii... oops.

It's gonna be on the Wii, unless that's what you said and it was a typo. lol /pif...typos....

I *think* Andy was refering to the ACTUAL series. The one the Wii is getting isnt the fighting game we are used to. Instead its an action game or something (Soul Calibur Legends). Where as the official series (1,2,3,4) will be on the other two systems. But i'm probably mistaken.

And from the scans i saw, it looks like reused character designs/graphics just set up for an action game rather than a fighter.

You're 100% correct.

And that's what I'm kind of pissed off about. All the Wii gets are crappy spinoffs that are better then tech demos. Right now, it's just as Cruelty says, just a simple toy, because developers are too scared to do anything further with it. It's definetly possible to make a deep game for the system, yet most people(sadly) are satisfied with whatever crap gets thrown out for the system. Hopefully, this will change near the end of this year, with all those juicy releases coming out. As for now, all I'm really interested in is Zelda and the VC....

Yup, SC4 is going to be released on the ps3 and xbox360. Wiki states "Though the game will not be released on the Wii,[2] Soul Calibur Legends is set to appear exclusively on the console sometime in 2007.[3]"

It's really funny that there are so many graphics whores out there who blame the low-level graphics on the wii hardware. The wii is perfectly capable of handling graphics similar to the first 360 games that came out. If you don't believe me here is an article about it.

http://revoeyes.blogspot.com/2007/07/wii-has-more-power-than-you-think.html

Its capable of most of this gen's effects like motion-blur and other, but it the DEVELOPERS that are being lazy. They can't be bothered to spend time on working out how to do all the custom things the Wii CAN do, do they just stick o a PS2 port and think that's acceptable.

The Wii can handle Ps2 graphics whilst doing a crossword and cooking dinner at the same time, so really everyone who wants to see more from the Wii should be writing angry letters/emails to the companies like Ubisoft, Namco, Konami etc. and telling them to pull their fingers out. :p

Nintendo seem to be the only ones who put effort into ther graphics!!

How about they handle ps2 graphics whilst doing gameplay? Or better yet, why don't they handle graphics one might call 'next-gen'? The Gamecube first party games could handle PS2 graphics and play games, why is this next console failing to take any step forward at all?

A. Two of those just look like pre-rendered models, who knows if they'll actually be the in-game models or not, and B. why is it that the Wii hardware is so impossible to figure out for third party developers that they can't manage nintendo's level of graphics? Third party developers seem to handle themselves okay on other systems, so I doubt it's just that they're lazy (see The Darkness or something for an example), I'm pretty sure it's more that pushing everything out of the system is just difficult! (You know, like Nintendo has a history of doing)

EDIT: oh also that mario screenshot doesn't look very good. The lava effect is... well, overdone I suppose, but it's old news. There's nothing impressive about the shot at all technically, it's more just that the art direction is... Mario. Which looks like... Mario. Which is good. Right? (and the lava textures look... :<

I'm trying to contradict/contest your statement or anything, but do you have a source of the Wii's benchmark test, by any chance?

I'm a little ashamed to say that I spent an extra 150 dollars on the console alone (So like, 400 or something) shortly after it came out, because I couldn't find it anywhere, and I expected it to be great. I've been a little disappointed in it, I've used it mostly for Zelda TP, which is amazing btw, and to play my old Gamecube games.

Saying that, yeah, it's been a bit of a disappointment, but that's not to say that there won't be some amazing, console-saving games in the future. There's already a few in production that I'm seriously looking forward to. So I don't really understand the hardcore Wii bashers, when it's really not that bad to begin with, and there's certainly been a lot worse.
