A Great Year for Nintendo

I'm sure if they actually researched the hardware, they'd figure it out. I'm sure it's not some sort of well kept secret that Nintendo is keeping all to themselves, because that's fucking retarded. It's obviously the laziness of the Developers. The FarCry port for Wii was a mistake, because they wanted to make a quick buck, and more than likely realized they couldn't do it quickly so instead of taking the hard route, they took the easy way out and just made a shit game.

That's what I'm saying... Why is it that developers apparently need to expend twice as much effort to make a mediocre looking Wii game than they do to make a decent looking PS3 game? IT SHOULD NOT BE SO FUCKING HARD. I seriously doubt there's a magic conspiracy among developers that Wii games deserve a fourth of the budget other games get.

Just like that article said, Andy. The Wii and apparently GameCube games are developed in a way that is very different than XBox and now PS3. Developers don't want to spend the money to produce it. Which is why Nintendo has always strived off first-party development.

I can't for the life of me figure out why the EXCLUSIVE third-party aren't going the extra mile. Maybe you are right, and maybe it's REDICULOUSLY DIFFICULT.

TREG: You didn't understand what I was saying. The hardware isn't used the same as Xbox and PS3. There are different methods for unlocking its potential. Yes, it's inferior, but not to the point that any port from another system AUTOMATICALLY FAILZ. It's the Developers fault for not putting the time and research into figuring out how to make it work.

Yes, Nintendo's fault for making the Wii into a Developer's Rubics Cube, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

That doesn't mean it's incapable. Did you read the article that Andy posted?

Where is the source of your theory that it's incapable? Pure anti-nintendo bias isn't exactly reputable!

Wouldn't the Wii technically be easier to develop for since it is based on the GC architecture? I'm not sure if it's exactly the same, but I think it's close to it.

And since when has a game that looks like GTA mattered to other people? I love GTA, but it looks like dinosaur crap, even compared to some first-gen GC games (Star Fox Adventures (beautiful water and fur physics), Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2). It is much, much bigger I'll say, but I would have dealt with a slightly smaller game with better visuals.

What I'm suggesting is that the Wii is incapable of delivering the same visuals as even the original Xbox port of Far Cry. Lots of reviewers commented that it's almost unplayable and looks far worse than the original Xbox port, to the extent where I seriously doubt a dev would release such a shitty-looking and unplayable game out of laziness alone.

Look at every single Ubisoft game for the Wii. The only half-decent on is Raving Rabbids, which is more like a tech demo anyway. And there are alot of Ubisoft wii-ports. As I said, they even made an apology about it. In this case, it was the developer, because it was a very, very rushed port.

Look at every Nintendo game on the Wii. You have a bunch of mini-games (TECH DEMOS LOL) and a Wario and Paper Mario game that completely lack the charm of their predecessors.

But let's look at most Wii games in general. Call of Duty 3 looks like a Nintendo 64 game and plays as chunky as one. They tried to throw in some wiimote effects like paddling and fighting, but it's still pretty ridiculous. Red Steel is another game with bad visuals and poor textures and DISAPPEARING BODIES. I'm sorry, but bodies in Half-Life didn't even disappear. I can't comment on the horrible textures in Twilight Princess because the game was originally designed for the gamecube, but have you found it strange that Resident Evil 4 on the Wii plays noticeably worse than the original gamecube version??

The wii's technology is ridiculous. So what, it can emulate a bunch of consoles perfectly but who the fuck cares when the only virtual arcade games being released have been played to death before? How about some new releases that most people haven't played like ANY OF THE MOTHER SERIES or getting Enix to donate Terranigma or something. Everyone's played Super Metroid and Mario Kart... why do I want to spend money playing them again?

The Wii has dug itself into a corner. Nintendo's dev kits aren't acessible enough to allow smaller companies to make cost effective games and big developers will want to focus their efforts on greater, more powerful projects. Will you ever see Bioshock on the Wii? Mass Effect? Grand Theft Auto IV? Capcom has already stated that they're 99% certain they won't be able to effectively develop Resident Evil 5 on the Wii.

Nintendo is focusing on the casual gamers, pure and simple. They've alienated other developers looking to make bigger, better games. By focusing on cheap hardware, they're marketing for gamers on the cheap or people who don't care for bigger games. They're still selling ridiculous amounts of consoles, but that's because there's more people who play color matching games on their cell phones than people who play RPG epics on their consoles. Nintendo is marketing to that degree and players and until they offer some incentive to other developers, I doubt we'll be seeing any "new or innovative" games which is a shame because the Wii is capable of so much.

Yes, and then SSBB, No More Heroes, MP3, etc. are all coming out soon... I mean, the 360 never took a year to get its big games... WAIT A MINUTE!

Other then the fact that those are either 3rd party or originally GCN games, I have no counterpoint with this. I was somewhat dissapointed with the cheap porting of LoZ.

I agree here... But some people havn't played Super Metroid(me, I know, please stop glaring), and other people may not have their old systems/don't want to use an emu. Of course, for the most part, the VC pickings aren't as good as they should be.

If Bioshock and Mass Effect are exclusives, then why can't Nintendo have their own exclusives. Will you ever see SSBB on the 360? No More heroes on the PS3? No. Each console has their own exclusives.

Every system has its droughts. The Wii, just like the 360, is having a bad first year. Things'll pick up after that. Especially with more exclusive titles in development then any other console. As for RPG epics, off the top of my head, you have FFCC: RoF(which from the trailer shown, looks pretty freaking cool, with the exception of the way the guy runs...), Dragon Quest Swords, FE10, and ToS2.

I'm inclined to disagree here Fafnir, there hasn't been a 'drought' of good games on the Wii, look at that little statistic I spent time looking up last page, the PS3 was released the same time, why isn't it doing as terrible at having good games? It was just made, and 'every console has a bad first year' right?

Marcus means exclusives of an epic blockbuster capacity. SSBB is going to be 'pick up and play' and for some 'pick up and play to death to master', not 'embark on an epic quest spanning galaxies, and kill several important characters leading up to a variable epic ending'. Though No More Heroes does look pretty cool. I should pick up Killer 7 and try that out.

For those serious RPG games, those look alright, but 4 of them? It seems like this console is probably going to have the RPG depth of the PSP. Which STILL fucking sucks. Tales of the World is almost the best non-port they have going for them on there, and it's just a fucking hash of previous tales games mixed with a hodgepodge fetch mission system (not that I don't like it). Actually no it's going to be better than the PSP, but not by enough. And the graphics are probably going to be similar.

Actually no it's going to be better than the PSP, but not by enough.

Actually, the PSP recently got Brave Story which is an original turn based game that's actually pretty frikkin decent as in good. Dragoneers Aira is a game by NIS America that's also exclusive and looks pretty sweet. There's Disgaea PSP which is the original game + a brand new storyline where Etna kills prince laharl and takes over the kingdom (as well as a slew of online multiplayer modes and bug fixes). Final Fantasy Tactics will have a brand new translation which kicks ass because the original's was pretty bad. Finally, Jean D' Arc is an original turn based strategy game and the Japanese reviews say it's the best thing to happen to TBS games since Ogre Battle Tactics.

If Bioshock and Mass Effect are exclusives, then why can't Nintendo have their own exclusives. Will you ever see SSBB on the 360? No More heroes on the PS3? No. Each console has their own exclusives.

Anyways, Bioshock and Mass Effect aren't exclusive... well, Mass Effect is (so far). Bioshock is also coming out on the PC with a hint at a ps3 version in the future. Grand Theft Auto IV probably won't appear on the Wii neither will Too Human. What about Condemned 2 or any future Saint's Row games? Resident Evil 5 was even canned for the Wii because it simply can't handle it.

Nintendo is capable of making money alone... just look at pokemon! But without a strong 3rd party developer support, they won't be getting anywhere fast. I don't know why Nintendo abandoned their 3rd party love after the SNES but from what I've seen the only reason people flocked to the SNES was because it was the only console available other than Sega. The 3DO bombed, the Sega CD failed, Neo-Geo was too expensive, and the Jagua was pretty much garbage.

</off topic> the psp has a handful of really good RPGs.. it's my primary gaming device, i've pretty much played them all @__@

another off topic, why on earth is Pokemon nintendo-exclusive? Isn't it based off an anime? Or does nintendo own the anime? I never really understood that..

Red and Green came out first in Japan, and were wildly popular, so they made an anime off of it. Just so happened that the anime hit NA shores before Red and Blue did. The only influence the cartoon ever had on the main games(not those crappy spinoffs, excluding Snap!), was Yellow. Outside of that, the cartoon pretty much borrows/rapes stuff from the game(if I remember correctly, it was intended for the pokemon to be treated as... y'know... animals, and not man's superbest friend. I hear the comics are alot more brutal then the anime, Mewtwo is impaled with a SPOON).
