How much of the graphics did you do yourself?
Bits and pieces. Obviously I'll be spriting all the characters and NPCs, as they're made using the Tyke-2 template and not the default RTP. I'll also be doing the battle graphics as well. The menu graphics were all done by me, except for the purple background, which was ripped from The Sacred Cards. I also drew and colored the character status pictures.
As far as the Domino tileset, the Kame Game Shop was one part original work (the roof), and one part Frankensprite/recolor (everything else). The basketball hoops were from a tileset... Sasuke? Sasuke-with-a-bunch-of-numbers? Someone with that name did. I enlarged them and put them on there, but as I said, I really don't like them and hope to replace them soon. I also did the chain-link fence around the top of the school. The rest of the tileset was pieced together from various other tilesets from various sources (and before anyone gets all up in arms, yes I plan on giving credit where credit is due. Expect a big topic with the header "Who the fuck did all this!?" sometime in the future).
I know when you look at the screenshots and the rest of the maps as a whole it doesn't sound like much, but it was very nerve wracking. As I've said before, I work better with small things when it comes to spriting. Less details equals less chance of me fucking up royally I guess. :x This was also the first time I had to use Photoshop for spriting, as PSP8 didn't want to do the things that I wanted it to do. :<
Another question... How are the battles going to work?
That's a good question. I wish someone could give me the answer...
...oh wait. XP
All seriousness aside, I'm not 100% sure on how I'm going to do battles either. If I'm lucky, and things actually cooperate with me for once, I'll be able to have two elements, which would be named "Normal Battle" and "Card Battle". Any attack that would fall in the "Normal Battle" category would do exactly 0 damage to any creature falling under the "Card Battle" element, and vice versa. This would, of course, include your physical attack; you'd look pretty dumb swatting away at a projection, wouldn't you?
As you could guess, there are going to be two types of battles in this game. Normal battles would be your typical RPG "OMG AN ENEMY APPROACHTH DESTROY!" kind of encounter. These are commonplace at the start of the game, before the characters become aware of the fact that Yuugi and the other Yuugi are in fact two different people. This includes the first few boss fights, as well as everything in Death-T up to the fight with Mokuba.
Card battles (or in Mokuba's case, Capsule battles...) are a slightly different case. While they're still carried out like your typical battle, as previously mentioned, normal attacks that would work on a flesh and blood creature will not work here. That's where cards come in; you can purchase or find new cards all over Domino and every where else you'll end up. Monster cards can be used on a specific character to teach them how to summon the monster in battle (for example, Yuugi can learn how to summon Black Magician, but Jounouchi can't). Trap cards can be used by anyone, and basically consist of skills that hinder your opponent, but don't damage them (in classic console RPG terms, the status effect magic that sounds useful, but you don't end up using half the time), with rare few exceptions. Magic cards are your items -- these are typically restorative, and can be used no matter what battle you're in.
Some misc. things to note: no matter how often you level up, your maximum LP (Life Points, AKA Hit Points) does not go up. Your max LP will always be 8000. Your DP (Duelist Points, otherwise known as MP), however, does, so you can't just build up a lot of money and blow it all on cards, as you won't have enough DP to summon if you do. Essentially, if you want to see what your characters can really do, you need to balance things out.
Wow, that turned out long. @_@; Hope I answered your questions well enough.
