Your religion or atheist belief.

What religion do you believe in? Atheist isn't a religion, but you can put that down if you choose so.

What points do you have that make your view to be some what valid?

Yes, a very hardcore subject, but I have to ask.

I went ahead and put this in general for now because "share your beliefs" isn't really debatable. Depending on how the conversation goes, though, it might be moved back to the Symposium eventually.

Atheist isn't a religion

Completely true.
I'm getting sick of people claiming atheism is a religion.

Also, I'm an atheist (if it wasn't obvious)

What points do you have that make your view to be some what valid?

Just like religion I can't prove beyond any reasonable doubt that my beliefs are right, however since I don't see enough evidence to believe a particular thing I have chosen to believe in nothing.

I don't see what's very hardcore about asking people what they believe, to tell you the truth. I could have sworn we already had a topic about this sort of thing, but I can't find it for the life of me...

By the way, no holy crusades. Even if the people who don't share your religion are technically poor misguided heathens who are going to Hell, we don't want to hear about it here. I don't think I know anyone with the fundamentalist balls to do that, but I see potential for that sort of thing here... So, yeah, respect other people's beliefs. There's friendly debate and then there's flaming.

Get the offtopic one-liners the fuck out of here, thanks. We really don't care if a discussion in another thread has left you a little sore.

Wow, no need to get irate. It is ontopic, after all.

Personally, religion isn't a focal point of my life. I choose to be agnostic, because no higher life form has entered my life. Nor do I believe it will, but hey. Maybe.

Personally I find those who are Atheists tend to force their beliefs on others. I seriously couldn't care less. There is no proof of a God, nor is there any evidence that there isn't. It's this belief solely that I am agnostic. No need to worry about something that may happen, if it hasn't happened yet or has proved no need to worry about.

So yeah, agnostic. Not really a religion, but moreover a choice.

Me, I'm kind of stuck in the middle.
On one hand, I was raised to be Christian and believe in God, but on the other, I'd need more proof than a book that there is an ultimate being controlling the entire universe.
Put simply, I'll believe in God when he rips the roof off and says hi.

i'm a hopeful agnostic /slash/ borderline christian /slash/ want to some-day study Buddhism. :}

annoying atheists are annoying.

Well, I'm a Buddhist who was raised in a nominally christian family, but buddhism isn't so much a religion as a philosophy, so I guess you'd say I'm a vaguely agnostic buddhist.

i believe in "god" as a name attached to a predefined collection of values and morals and religion is for people who are too lazy or indecisive to define their own values and morals and instead decide to attach to someone else's for the sake of HAVING SOMETHING or being part of something (lots of people value being part of something because being alone is scary).

god as a sentient being is laughable.

Yes, a very hardcore subject, but I have to ask.

no you don't? there are tons of religious debates that don't get anywhere why not read some of them.

I am atheist.

That doesn't mean I don't respect other religions, but well, I don't anyway. IMO religion is something you should come to by your own conclusions. You shouldn't need someone to tell you, advise you, lead you a certain way. You shouldn't need a book to preach at you, or certain rules to live by given to you by some dudes. Because the very basis of religion is that it's something you believe in. If someone tells you something it's their belief, not yours. (Even if you come to believe it yourself over time, they still pushed the idea upon you first). The people I respect are those who when asked what religion they are instead of saying "Buddhist", "Muslim", "Christian"; they put down their own personal religion. Yet I have never seen that happen.

Technically this, only I would've said it nicer and with some randoms thrown in.  Such as that an originator is likely.  A sentient or knowing originator, not so much.  I would consider the big bang an originator if that's the case as much as a god, God, or gods if they be the case - on equal footing.  Neither impress me enough for me to care.

I haven't said what I am. How can I start a topic without answering my own question?

I am a Christian. Why I believe in what I believe? I have seen too many miracles, heard too many "random coincidences", heard too many stories, been touched by what I call the Holy Spirit, and I have experienced tons of joy. The beginning of my life would have stayed the same if my mom wasn't a church goer. I have seen too many people I personally know get healed. I've heard too many stories about things doctors like to call "cancer miracles", and I've seen too many prayers not answered not to believe.

But I can't say the same for everyone else. My life has gone up and down, but every time I turn to my so called God, I always end up on the right path. I have never experienced so much joy in my life. Stress doesn't touch me and I have clarity. The Bible is just a tool to help me live my life, but I do believe in its Words, and I do believe in the Holy Spirit.

So Non-denominational Christian is my belief.

I'm partial to Deism or Spinozian Pantheism dependant on what day of the week it is.

I think most religions have... interesting stories, but I'm not going to rearrange my life around them.

Miek, I ignored the first comment but if you're going to keep crying about this then I'll point out that it's nothing to do with any thread it is in fact to do with people I know in real life (As in not on the internet) you've now made two posts crying about it, I made one post which answered the question asked and expressed my satisfaction with the topic creator starting things properly. It was not an "offtopic one-liner"
Also disagreeing with you is not ruining this thread, crying about something you don't like in every post is.

Don't bother acknowledging or responding to this post, I'm not going to get in an argument with you, the only reason I even bothered typing this is because you were saying something about me which is untrue.

Now stop ruining Diaforetikos topic, it's very rude.

LMOA!!!!!

Me, I'm not even really sure what you would call my beliefs. I don't believe that there is a god watching over us whatsoever because if that were the case there wouldn't have been so much shit going on right now.

But I do believe in heaven, and I believe that is where God resides and what he watches over. I mainly believe this simply because I can't deal with the idea that after death there is just nothingness, it's a little.... scary o_o

Thats actually me a bit too. I believe in some sort of almighty just for that exact reason.

I'm agnostic and believe that trying to prove your own belief cheapens what faith you claim to have.  :thumb: If it's faith, why do you need to prove it other than to make yourself feel/look better?
