XP or VX

Seriously, I never used any of them, I played around with XP a bit to get some ideas, but never tried VX.

Now I see a lot of people use both, and I'm wondering which one would be the best for me to use.
What are the main difference between them? What are your opinions?

RPG Maker VX contains many improvements and changes from RPG Maker XP (for example, its battle system).  However, its mapping system and character sprite system differ considerably from RPG Maker XP.  In particular, RPGXP allows a higher degree of freedom when placing tiles on a map, whereas RPGVX takes better advantage of autotiles and roofs to make the mapping process faster and easier.

For the mapping, XP looks better (as in more detailed) and takes WAY longer.

In VX, it is much simpler, once you get the hang of it, and is way faster.  It looks a lot different from XP though, but is way way easier.

VX runs at a slightly higher resolution as well. The battle systems are pretty much the same. Also, VX has RGSS2, which is a much better way to script than RGSS (which is what XP has) However, I believe someone released a script some time ago which allowed XP to use RGSS2 scripts.

Personally, I prefer XP, but for a beginner, I think VX is the way to go.

It's a LOT easier to map in VX, although there is a lot less freedom considering there are only two layers. Many features returned from 2k/3, although the use of fogs was lost. There is an easy, time-saving event creator that instantly creates chests, doors, transfers, and inns. Parallaxes show up in the editor, which opens up many, many possibilities.

XP is harder to map in, but maps can be more detailed. You'll definitely find many, many more scripts and resources for it because it's been out twelve times as long as XP.

I prefer VX, mainly because I cannot map in XP to save my life. I also do not like the solid white transparent color in the Editor, but that's just me. It'd really up to you to decide which you will use.

To tell the truth, you don't have to choose between the two. Buy one, and, in almost every case, the activation code will work for the other as well. In essence, you will be buying both programs for the price of one.
