[XP]Local lan?

Hey, I was just wondering if its possible to have a game with a lan option? Not over the net, but just over the local network. I know it was possible with Netplay, but the whole project seems to be abandoned.
Im just thinking of a multiplayer co-op with two persons, playing on different computers, although on the same network.

How would I go about doing this?

Using the socket classes from Netplay you could probably create a system to do this, but it wouldn't be easy and I don't think such a system currently exists. (You could use Netplay 1.6.3 and have one user host the server on their PC, but that's a tad OTT).
