I always hate when people say this, but try a different style. I'm not saying that because I don't like you're style, it's just that you have some amazing potential and I want to see you keep going up. The fastest way to do that is to keep trying different styles. This style will mature and improve as you keep trying other styles.

You have no concept of how eyes are positioned on the head. This is disgustingly evident in your front-views (and your avatar, I cringe and then laugh every time I see it).

I'd suggest that you study up using some real references, not shitty anime. It's holding you back.

hand trouble. most noticable problem is that rapier girl's blatently shattered wrist bones that let her hand hang so painfully over the foil (you try bending ur had that far down number 1 and number 2 detatchign r hand that far away from your wrist you'll find it is very painfull if at all posibble)

the coloring is fine for an anime style and yes some of the clothing designs are pretty interesting but yikes some of the figures are scarry. As the ever congenial and pleasent misingno. has mentioned, stop drawing your inspiration from anime. ... ... particularly things like Claymore. A wise woman (and relativly acomplished artist) once told me that anime, while a perfectly acceptable art form, should be the end of a long path, not the beginign of your artistic journey. I met (and talked for hours with) a published american manga artist and belive you me his manga style is quite posibly the most over-the-top anime cuteness you will ever lay your eyes on, however inhis portfolio he also had some breathtaking alndscape and photo-quality portraits of human figure form and face as well as animals. Build your anime after you'v got a good grasp of art at it's core.

Anime is like candy for the brain. it's fun diverting and has addictive qualities but if you don't flush it out regularly with some culture, your mind WILL rot away.

when i was going to college the professor of my life drawing class was a retired animator for Disney, as well as the lead animator for the movie Anastasia, which if youve seen it, its quite beautifully animated. but anyway, on to my point, he has a very very strong background in life drawing, anatomy etc. it was amazing how quickly he could capture a pose, proportions etc, very accurately when drawing a live model. when he taught the class he would walk around with a little spiral ring notebook and a pen, and look at peoples drawings, and stand there for like 10-20 seconds, and already have drawn the areas of said persons drawings he noticed something wrong with, so he could visually explain to them their errors. bottom line is he was fuckin amazing at drawing from real life accurately.

he made some comments to some people in the class about anime, similar to what mascarpone's "wise woman" said.
he was saying that he admired GOOD anime for the way they captured anatomy accurately, yet so simplified. just a few lines can do what a completely realistic drawing can do. but his point, and mine are, you need to build your foundation in life before you move on to imagination.

on another note, that teacher was Polish, and had a really thick accent, it was awesome

not to knock ur professor but Anastasia was rotoscoped which is kind of cheating (Rotoscoping is when u record live actors doign a scene and then animate over the filmed frames.)

yeah i know what rotoscope is, but still it was nicely drawn (although semi-traced, for poses) but he was still an animator for disney for 30 years, you know, before the whole 3d movie thing ruined their cartoons, i miss good old 2d disney movies.

speaking of rotoscope movies, the hobbit was afwul, just thought id point that out

I see that you have the same problem as Devon Xcell. I am speaking of the hair line, you cover some up with bangs and they look good, but the ones that show the hair line look funny.

Man I gotta take an art class it sux being self taught, but I'll definitely be taking everyone's advice. I'll draw a life drawing every day, be it the human form or an animal until I can increase my skills.

i need to go back to the drawing board (no pun intended) myself, im way out of practice and it has hurt my work drastically. no matter how good you are or were you can always be better

Ok I've got my wacom and studied real references and some light bulbs went off when I was drawing my latest picture, I think theres improvement. I'll definitely keep studying and learn what I can thanks for the great advice.

Wacom is a graphics tablet. Thay look like a pen and pad that hook up to the computer. You can draw on the pad and it will show up on the screen. It rocks. My Wacom tablet broke and I'm missing it. I have a different company graphics tablet, and they just don't compare to wacom.

Hey Xcelled, I just noticed something. You need to work on hands. That's really weird coming from me, because I haven't quite mastered hands, either, but I just feel something wrong about the hands. Maybe they're too small? Also, the angles are off.

Yes their to small. I know you can't see my pictures/avatars hands but they should be as long as the face for a man and two inches shorter for a normal woman. Also they require a little more width. Increase there size about 25 % and it should look better.
