Xbox Live Problem?

I've just tried to connect to XBL for the first time ever (yea, slow I know), yet it can't find my 360's IP address. I'd enter it manually, but I don't know where to find it. Is the 360 supposed to appear as an external hardrive when connected to a computer?

I'm using an ethernet cable to connect to my laptop which is using wireless, if that matters. My laptop uses Vista btw.

connect the ethernet cable to the wireless router, and then hook it to the 360.
Thats how I did it.

dont use wireless internet for gaming. your teammates will appreciate it.

Uh, I believe ethernet ports on computers are there to hook the computer up, not to use the computer as a router/switch.  Seriously just get a wired router.  They're only like $40 USD.

The problem with your setup is that you simply cannot do it the way that you are, unless your computer has routing hardware/software.

I'm not aware of it being possible to connect to the internet via another computer, but I suppose I've never tried. The computer would have to be configured as a residential gateway... (On second though, it may be possible, but I'm not sure how you would set it up...)

I only tried it this way, because a friend of mine did it like that apparantly and he said he'd show me how. Yet he went on 'holiday' shortly after...
