Would you vote for a gay president?

All right. Before I go into my answer for the thread, I had a comment about star's response regarding voting.

Voting is important! If you don't vote, you have no say in the matter. The majority of American citizens do not vote in elections. I can guarantee that, if all American citizens voted, instead of assuming that their votes didn't matter, elections would have had a very, very different outcome. Some historians have even said that the 2000 elections were decided by the fact that it was raining in Florida on election day, causing fewer people to vote, causing Florida to support a difference candidate, resulting in a different winner for the presidential elections. If you do not vote, you do not have any right to criticize the candidates in office, or complain about the decisions made by lawmakers, because you did not use your constitutional right to have your say in the government.

Anyway, I would probably not vote for a gay candidate. Not because I have anything against gays, and not because I think they would make bad decisions. It's because it would have a serious effect on America's worldwide relationships. Some allies, such as Israel, have a very harsh view on homosexuality, and may go so far as to cut all ties with the country. In other cases, it would be used as a very powerful form of anti-USA propaganda, in areas where the USA is already unpopular. In the middle east, being a homosexual is grounds for being murdered, in the sense that, while it would be technically illegal, it would probably be overlooked. Anyway, it isn't really about internal affairs, when it comes to the president. With the president, it's about international affairs.

Also, I thought it might be worth mentioning that, if the President decides to do so, he can make any law he wants, and it will remain law until congress writes a new law to override it, or the Supreme Court overturns it.

I can see that America will have a monarchy one day...

Anyways getting to the point.

I'm very Conservative on gay matters, but I'm not conservative to the point where I'll burn gays or kill them or persecute them.

Lots of gays are tough, but still, I don't think they are good rolemodels, I also doubt that they will make good decisions.
Gays tend to be more emotional, I think, which means that they can confuse their emotions with their decisions.

According to Cracked, Homosexual men can't drive like women, so I'm assuming that men also have quite a number of women characteristics too.

The reason why I wouldn't vote for a gay is also kinda like the reason why people wouldn't vote for a woman.

Then again, I'm very conservative on gay matters.

But I'm not the guy who can separate careers and personality easily.

But I'm not an American, and I'm pretty sure all gay candidates in our country won't even be allowed to enter elections.
Because its against Islamic religious laws.

I completely disagree because I find the above statement entirely too discriminatory towards gay people.

Why?

Because if this were true:

- We can't have a white president because it would hurt relations with South Africa
- We can't have a female president because it would hurt relations with middle east countries
- We can't have a Christian president because it would hurt relations with Islamic nations
- We can't have a female president who shows skin because that would offend Islamic nations
- We can't have a chinese president because that would hurt relations with Korea

America (and other countries) can't change their attitudes based on other nations. It does not work. They are not those nations. They have grown up independantly and to their own laws and moral standards. I am not going to argue which are right and wrong, but, while we can respect other peoples morals and standards we should not have to conform to them.

So you'd vote for a lesbian for the same reason people would vote for a man.

Sexual orientation =/= gender identity. Just throwing that out of there.

having a gay president would make the whole world argue about the issue in the whole world just like ppl argue in this thread, would cause hate and separation and could even creat a civil war because of the strong opinions on the matter, specially on the extreme religious ppl. you may have had already a gay president whose secret wasnt shown to the public because of this.

America had a Monarchy. Then we killed como and started the revolutionary war. :bunny:

This would all work in a perfect world, voting for a gay president for just his great plans for the future. How many presidents have I seen create great plans but in the end do nothing but act like crooks? I'd say one too many. If you're gonna vote for a gay president, sure, that's fine, but I wouldn't expect him or anyone else to be a great president.

America just isn't ready for a gay president, sure most of you people are young and have new views on life. But most senators and congressman are old and old fashioned with old views that follow biblical teachings. Maybe in the next 16 years something will change.
