Would You Rather Live...

In an apartment, a house, a condo, I don't know. Any type of general housing, I guess.

I live in a house right now, but I'd much rather live in an apartment, seeing as how all the houses in the area have like, a caretaker. My rooms on the first floor and I was changing this morning and he was mowing right by my window, and was completely looking through the cracks in the curtain. Agh, that's really gross

I live instead in a condo, third floor. I would like to live in a bigger flat...this is not so little, but I and my sister sleep in the same room...Ah, I dream of a room totally MINE.

If I were single again, I would love living in a one bedroom apartment. There's just the right amount of space and accommodation, and just enough room to put up all my posters (which I lost the liberty of doing when I tied the knot). However, since that's not going to happen, I would prefer having a two or three bedroom house with at least two bathrooms. For now, a two bedroom would work just fine, but I want at least two kids (well, my wife is seven months pregnant with our first). For now, our two bedroom apartment is good enough for the next five years, but that's going to have to change eventually. I can't complain because rent is only $520 USD, which is cheap for how big our place is. Most places around here with two bedrooms are $600-900 USD.

Shit, the rent is so cheap there. I was paying 750 for a one bedroom, it was amazingly nice, but like, I don't know, it was way too much for a one bedroom in my opinion.

I live in a shitty house that's falling apart. I'd rather live in a fully furnished mansion on my own private island, though.

..Or the shitty apartment across from my friend. That'd work, 350$ a month? pssssssh. Chicken feed. =D

Where do you live?

My one bedroom/one bath costs $785 USD/month.

Apartments are the coolest. What don't you like about them? I think they're really safe, secure, and cost effective, maybe that's just me though. Pah.

House. I live in a house atm anyway. A apartment holds to many restrictions that I don't like.

A house holds the restrictions of stairs and the chance of falling down them. Apartments are the lazy mans dream.

Noise restrictions, some apartments don't let pets, most of them are small, and you really can't do what you want because other people live with you. I'd rather live in a house free from all those burdens and do whatever fuck I want. It's my house. (Well, you know what I mean.)

That's what insurance is for. Besides some apartments have stairs anyway.

See this person knows what life is about. Kudos to you, my friend. Haha.

EDIT - Also, I find apartments not to be so bad for noise ordinances unless you're throwing parties like, 2-3 times a week.

Apartements are bad for noise if you like playing the guitar at midnight :p Or the piano.

Nick Drake records Pink Moon entirely in sessions starting at midnight; it's one of the best albums ever. I record things at midnight, people bash on the ceiling. Fair? I think not!

Condos....well, they are nice and big, but they're hard to clean. But they do allow pets.

Apartments and actually more prone to rat infestations I've found, even in real nice ones. While upkeep costs will always be there, they are reduced for apartments. And you can't really throw parties if you live in an apartment.
Also, you don't really have to pay gas, electric, or cable. Only bill you have that involves the living quarters is the rent.

Houses are probably the best things to have. Once you pay them off, you will actually OWN them. They have about a medium upkeep cost, and you have to pay for all the bills, but that can easily be remedied by cutting how much electricity and water you use. Also, you're free to do what you want for the most part.

Apartments are definately not the coolest. I live in one in a two story building above my parent's bike shop. -_-

Everyone at school thinks its the shit and any guests like it too but it certainly doesn't grow on you.

It's small, boring, and just not a real house. I'd give anything to live in a house again.

EDIT:
@Camisado: I walk up 17 steps every time I come home.
And why not get a 1 story house?

Depending on your neighbours, apartments can be pretty cool. I remember once growing up (5-6 years old) we had an elderly couple living a floor below us. Every couple of weeks they used to knit me and my sister woolly jumpers (passing the time I guess). Walk pass their door...

*BANG* "hey guess what we got for ya!"

I miss them :(

Well, I live in a house... umm... we have a garage... umm...
(looks up in the sky) umm... we have a garden that has a pond (before it had a fish but it died it had a funny name my lil' bro named it "Fishy"ahaha)
we have a pool but its not clean anymore, my mom said that we don't use it anyway. We just clean it if a party/ guests are coming I feel so ashamed if surprise guests come and see the icky pool..

I can never imagine myself living in an apartment because inside feels so small... maybe a loft would do... XD

When we get a little more financially stable, my fiance and I would like to buy a house. We live in a 1 bed/1 bath apartment but are soon moving to a 2 bed/2 bath "cottage style" apartment (single story, so no one above or below us). It's pretty nice.

Overall, apartments are ok, because you don't have to worry about maintenance costs (waterheater breaks? No problem. Maintenance will fix it -- Trust me, I know this one from experience).

But, why pay someone elses mortgage? A house is really the way to go, if you can afford it.

/grown up rant
