'Straight pride' is not neccessary because no one's ever told people that being straight is something to be ashamed of. 'White power' is not neccessary because no one's ever tried to subdue white people as a single group.

Something that many people have said in this thread is "I especially hate it when people like that make such a issue out of it, and then use the word nigger to refer to eachother". It's kind of irrelevent, since no one here does it, and I highly doubt that the woman who got the couch in the first place does. Yes, people who do do that are annoying, but... Duh. It's not a relevent comment in this context.

Andy 6000 is right. The spanish word for black is negro. I don't see the black communuity challenging this ever. The fact that things get lost in translation is a thing that happens everyday.

Just look at President Bush sticking his nose in Irag. Perhaps the translators got it wrong saying theyre were WoMD when there really wasn't. Ironic huh?

The fact that the woman's family is in crisis over it is total crap. Thats just to butter up the people in question. They act like they are the only people in the world who dont know what racism is. I mean have they been living in a cave or something. Its everywhere.

Why can't people accept it and deal with it instead of causing a royal panic and getting their face in the news every five minutes. The media itself tries to infalate the situation anyway, so I see why they did it.

I myself would have a little chuckle if I seen the tag, but I wouldn't buy it. I would point out that the tag could be offensive towards certain people, and leave it at that.

I mean come on, how ignorant can you get if you don't look at the tag. Isnt the price on it? I smell publicity and attention there.

Oh well, I really don't care I just like people's reactions. Plus it seems like nothing is going on in Canada lately, so this pops up. Nice!

The only possible explanation is that she's stupid!
Or, possibly, that the one she looked at in the shop didn't have the same label.
Or, possible, that she bought it online.
But those are so wildly unlikely, that it must be her that's ignorant. Problem solved!

I don't know exactly what you mean by 'accepting it and dealing with it'. The fact that lots of people are racist doesn't make it any less offencive. I agree that her reaction was excessive, but only once she'd found out that it was a mistake.
