Hmm, you're tank is looking really cool! However, I don't think completely removing the lines is what you want to do if you're going for the same style as your naked dudes there. When TREG said your lineart was too blunt, I believe he just meant to make it so it's not black. It should be a darker, but not completely dark, shade of the color it borders.

weren't the 101st the company that Band of Brothers focused on?
The second example in the 2nd update looks ok, it needs an outline though. maybe setting the black outlines opacity to 50% might help define some edges.

The light source is indicated by the red arrow, just look at the shading indicated in blue!?

Why did it completely lose the outline?
Outlines are necessary in pixel art to delineate shapes--they just should be strategically colored so that they look less like outlines and more like highlights/shadows.

See how there are still outlines, but they look like flashes of light on the steel or low points in shadows?
